Another stupid airplane question

Has anyone tried carrying their tool kit with a roll of wire in their carry on?

I'm not about to try this. But it would be a plus if it was possible.

Never had an issue, but I don't bring a massive kit. Just my 3MM rig, a small spool of coil and nail clippers. My screwdriver is on my keychain.
