I was sitting outside at lunch one day, smoking a cigarette, minding my own business. Some lady came out and sat down next to me and said, "You know you're supposed to be on the sidewalk right?" I explained this is where I always sat, had always sat for 5 years, and never had an issue. She mentioned the police (the central district precinct is in my building), and I said, "well, that's funny because I frequently talk to uniformed officers and detectives alike, and not one of them has said a word. Matter of fact, some of them even join me." Then I asked her if she wanted me to move - she didn't, because I wasn't bothering her at the time. I wasn't trying to be confrontational, I honestly didn't understand *why* she would see me light a cigarette and take a couple drags, then come sit next to me and try to start shit over it. Some people just like drama and like to start problems where none exist. That's really all I can come up with.
She wants you and had nothing else to start a convo.

A few years ago we went to the casino and the pit attendants were LOVING the butterscotch juice I was packing around with me.
The old bitties in the smoking section not so much. Non smokers in the smoking section giving me shit. It was an easy fix.... Pressed help button, attendant comes over asking me if I need help...
I Point to oxygen masked old hag in the fat cart who smells like used depends and cat piss at 50 paces, that is making comments about my "smoke" and disrupting my gaming experience.
Attendant asks the HMS. Shitpile to go to the non smoking section or shut her mouth, anymore complaints from the section and she would be forced to leave the casino grounds. I was not the only one making that complaint about the battle ax.
10 minutes goes by I get poked in the ribs with a flabby greasy filthy frito clawed digit, poked is not the word... stabbed, punctured, alien anal probed would be better. I mean she was trying to touch my heart in between my ribs. On reflex I spun why yelping at the sudden discomfort around and caught her with a wicked open hand slap against her greasy hog jowl. Damned near toppled her from the fatty cart.
I screamed "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?? FUCK OFF!"

The attendant saw her approaching and got security and they had turned the corner as she was jabbing me.
I got a free meal out of it, she damned near got arrested but 86ed for life out of there.

She assaulted me, I did it on instinct and she deserved FAR worse.
Split skin, deep bruise between my ribs just above my floating ribs on left side, about 3" from my spine.
Old bitch made breathing, let alone vaping painful for weeks.

Let this be a lesson to all don't poke the big nasty lol. We all would have reacted with a jump and a turn but big took it to a charles bronson level lmao. I enjoyed the story. Most people like her are a little less obvious like running into you by accident or something. She blantently tried to perform open heart surgery on you in pubic!!!

It is why she was perma banned from the casino. They wanted me to press assault charges on her. I declined to, her being removed for disrupting game play was enough.

As I also state it was instinct, but then again getting a greasy frito clawed digit jammed between ribs is not something someone experiences everyday.

I know i meant no insult by my post. My imagination ran wild tho. I could see a charles bronson movie trailer with this old lady laying under a motorized wheel chair and text saying "poke no one" lmao. I know my imagination is somewhat of a problem for me lol

If I won the lottery I'm afraid what I would do....which would be isolate myself from people.

Interesting you mention that. We bailed from city life about 8 months ago. It's so much nicer.

Saying there's "way less people here" is an understatement. But we did move carefully. We didn't want to be completely isolated... found a place where most everyday things are 3-5 miles away. Bigger places with big-box stores are 25-40 minutes in either direction.

I'm still trying to succinctly explain the locals. Definitely less drama and entitlement. Way more chill. Only problematic thing we've run across are the people who look down on others who weren't born in the area. But we try to be really nice to everyone, so that hasn't been a big problem.

The lottery. Yeah. I had to buy a 4x4. The job market isn't as good here, and when there are jobs, they are more than likely part time. Lower pay across the board. We definitely wouldn't have been able to flee if we had been living paycheck to paycheck during the move. Interesting thing though... while you have to work harder to find jobs, even the hiring processes can be easier. Definitely still the same HR nightmares at some places, but we've both picked up work on handshake deals.

You just gotta love those unseen champions of society.

Case in point, my cousin still smokes despite all of my efforts.

Last time we had lunch, he told me that a couple of weeks before, he had flipped a cigarette but out the window of his car.

Granted that he really should not be doing that but he did.

And one of these champions of society saw this horrific crime, made note of his licence plate, reported him to some agency which sent him an Official Nastygram in the mail with a ticket.

BTW, if you are writing down a licence plate number while you are driving, isn't that Distracted Driving which is also against the law in most states?

hell there were places where I grew up where it took a couple of generations to be considered a local.

Someone here said close to the exact same thing last week.

Our initial options are time (impossible) and community involvement (which we wanted to do anyway). Getting involved has helped. A lot.

You just gotta love those unseen champions of society.

People spend way too much time being bothered by what other people do. And they use zero brain power to achieve a helpful perspective that would help them calm down. I actually have the ability to be quite social. But it's really hard to land among a group of people that isn't annoying. You should have seen the Christmas Eve party we went to. Holy crap, if I told you what some people did/said, this thread would end up in the Mud Pit.

becuase we are living in a new dawn, in a new age, for a new humanity, were the enlightned and aultarisitc, are going to end all the problems of mankind we are finally going to end all human suffering like War, and Poverty, and famine, and disease, and humanity will live in peace and brotherhood, and all we need to do it is....total subjegation of the entire human race......sound familiar, every tinhorn totalitarian lunatic preached it....and their mindless followers.....People have been so twisted by the dominant political memes they view your freedom as a threat to their continued existence....what you put in your body, what you don't. what car you drive, your barbeque, your diet, what stores you shop at,your fireplace, the books you read, the books you don't read, what websites you visit,...and the thoughts you have....all are a threat to the new Utopia.....
And that why you see, that while 12 year old yahzidi girls are put on slave blocks in Iraq, to be sold to be sexually totrtured for the rest of their lives, well heeled and privledged self described Socail Justice Warriors in the US and Europe have hysterical fits over...gender specific pronouns and see imagined micro aggressions in other people breathing too loud.and real human suffering is suppresed by the media and facebook and google to protect the endgame of the elite.
I've noticed the so called "social justice warriors' tend to want to dictate behavior and rules for everyone else, but when a problem happens in their camp where they get busted for discrimination, sexism, or NIMBY behavior, they suddenly cry "victim!" and expect everyone to allow double standards for them. It's victim politics and it is incredibly disgusting. The key here is that if it benefits them, then it's ok, if it suits their flexible moral character, then it's acceptable. What I've noticed over the years is the complete intolerance these folks have for freedom of speech and ideas and concepts not their own, they have no problem screaming down anyone who questions some of their cherished views, but scream about being censored when a venue or publication refuses to print their tripe or allow rage conventions where the politically correct and social justice warriors can get their daily fill of outrage.

Christians being slaughtered in the middle east doesn't bother them, Donald Trump's hairdo and his latest comment enrages them.

This is why "safe zones" and censorship of ideas that "trigger" uncomfortable feelings, and speakers are harassed on campuses are becoming the norm...our universities look more like the Nazi beer gardens than they do universities, and the universities are where our future leaders come from, because the political class has conned us into the idea that these people SHOULD be our leaders...just as centuries ago we were conned into the idea that as serfs we weren't capable of governing ourselves, that we were too simpleminded,to uneducated, to provincial, to crass....that we need a class of more refined humans to lord over us....our ancestors created the republics and dispelled this myth, but now the lie is being sold to us again.

What bothers me about what is happening on Uni and college campus's is that the students are being indoctrinated rather than being exposed to concepts and ideas that will challenge them. After all, college is about expanding your mind and understanding more than the sum of yourself. Difficult ideas and harsh concepts are part of the process. Perhaps its generation related, perhaps a sign of overreach by political movements who want young devotees. Russia has a phrase "useful fools (полезные дураки)" that pertains to those who mindlessly follow and allow the dictates of the government to override common sense. Sadly, I believe that our higher educational system is now churning out useful fools as a standard practice. There is a shocking lack of critical thought in many recent college graduates I have met

not only is their a lack of criticl thought...there is an absolute hatred toward critical thought..toward thinking....the meme has been creted anything that threatens it ,any evaluation, any straying from it is ..."counter revolutionary"..lately the rhetoric has intensisified on campuses because people are starting to rebel against this control...so they are doubleing down on their punishment in the hopes of staving off an intellectual revolution with in colleges.it won't work..it didn't in Russia,or China, or Cuba, or Venezuela.....

I haven't seen them in a few years, but there used to be billboards all over the place out here encouraging people to call in to the state and rat on butt-flickers...guessing that's no longer feasible since cell phones in cars are illegal now.

screw you...I lived there for over 12 years. I'll bash the fuck out of it if I want to.I paid my dues to that shithole..I live in Oakland feel free to bash the shit out of it all you want. Besides how is pointing out the glaring lie that the political class that run S.F. is in anyway concerned with the public saftey of it's citizens how is it considered bashing....
Maybe you should just go to your "safe zones"
I used to live in San Jose. There was truly a bunch of strange people, also, a lot of good people. I was in the grocery store one day and there was a guy leaning over the meat section shaving with an electric razor. I asked him if he was fucking stupid. His reply "Aw dude, I didn't know it would offend anybody, or I wouldn't have done it" I try to run pretty much down the middle of the road. Seems when you get close to the edges you start running into some really strange shit.

Not trying to take a high and mighty stance I have seen people arrested here in San Francisco for smoking or vaping in places where they shouldn't.

I've seen people get their ass kicked for dialing 911.

Fault finders are a dime a dozen, and it takes a good person to see the good in others, as nobody is perfect...I was raised if I couldn't say anything good or positive not to say anything at all, but sometimes that is hard to do with rude people blowing cigarette smoke in my face..(casino smoking section) lol

Regarding the casino scenario. I recently went to one of our Native American casino's after our big Christmas meal with my wife and in laws. I was sitting there playing some penny slot crap just vaping away on my IPV3li and Billow2 when I notice someone coming towards me out of the corner of my eye. It happened to be a rather sizeable Native fella security guard.

Mind you, in our small corner of the state vaping has not exactly taken off like many other places so a lot of people just assume they are for drugs.

My first thought was oh great he is going to harass me about doing drugs or some dumb shit. Quite the opposite, asked me what my mod was and wanted to take a look, then he pulls out an older looking istick and what looked like an Kanger aerotank. We had a nice convo until he had to check on something that came across in his earpiece thing. We lost and left shortly thereafter so I didn't get to talk to him again but I thought that was pretty cool.

That's VERY cool!! And I've had that happen at our casino too,, one of the cocktail waitresses stopped and talked to me for almost an hour! I gave her advice on what to get and she gave me a free beer!! The next time I saw her she had her rig in her pocket,,, she didn't take all of my advice and instead listened to someone in a shop who sold her a pen style... She's still smoking. I've actually seen quite a few people vaping at our casino,,, it kind of surprises me because we're pretty remote but I like it! Makes me feel not-so-weird

I have always been pretty social but lately people seem to be getting really fucking weird and make me not want to talk to anyone. Christmas shopping keeps getting worse by the year, people are on edge and crusty as fuck.

Driving is getting worse, assholes everywhere really it's a hateful weird world we live in anymore and it's gonna get worse...yay.

We could be long lost twin brothers except I hate disco and want to ban Bee Gees
"music" from the planet!.

Unfortunately, some of these pieces of dog feces have made their way
to VU. Stand up to them and you are the one chastised.

Maybe there's something in the water they're drinking.

NIMBYs and trigger warnings... two of my favorite topics of the year. I fell down the rabbit hole for several days during that university dust up. Found out one of my wife's friends does consulting for corporations... focusing on "managing millennials." In other words, that "safe space" college mentality oozes over into the workplace after they all graduate. Trip.

On the broader "What's Wrong With People?" side... I need to vent so I can quit hating my neighbor. He left for the holidays and wanted to me get his mail every day. He got back and asked me where it was. I said it was in the exact same spot I put it last time he left for a week... in his garage. He realized he got drunk and threw it all out, then immediately started bitching me out for not putting it in his house. Walked away swearing, since yeah, it's my fault he gets so blindingly drunk that he throws away crisp, new mail. Turd.

This is why I stay home much more now, then I did even 10 years ago. Too many idiots in the open today.

I don't know what the deal is, I'm a former smoker, and basically never had a complaint. I smoked everywhere smoking was allowed, nobody said a word. I've been vaping for a few months now, and I've gotten weird looks, "wtf is that" comments, the whole smash. I am a POLITE vaper. I don't vape where I wouldn't smoke. I never blow clouds into people (at least I try as hard as I can not to).
People are afraid of things that are new, different, alien to them. People were scared of a lot of new things and inventions because of rumors and stuff over time but eventually learned to deal with it, I guess, I don't know, I'm talking out of my ass. Also, we can sometimes look like walking choo choo trains compared to smokers, so I s'pose they're like "Daaang, that just can't be healthy for you!"

I think what I meant to say is: People are assholes sometimes. Not just about vaping - some people make assholedom a sport.

What's even worse is when smokers get annoyed and wave their hand in front of them to get rid of the little vapor that lingered over to them. Pissed me off at work a time or two

I am a vaping metalhead
