I won't advise anyone to pick up one habit for another. What I will say is that vaping helped me quit cigarettes when all other cessation methods I tried failed. I don't have the will power for cold turkey. I first started with little cigalikes many years ago. This progressed to better equipment as it came available. Also my nicotine dependence became less and less until now i don't need it at all. I'm currently using temperature controlled devices and rebuildable tank atomizers.

My only advice is if you aren't currently vaping or smoking, don't start either. If you are a smoker and want to quit, try just quitting. But if that doesn't work and you choose to vape, read, read read and watch YouTube vids so you can absorb as much info as possible. Good luck!

I used to smoke 2 packs a day and tried everything to quit-patches, gum, pills, hypnosis ..you name it!
2 years ago I put down the combustible tobacco and picked up vaping. Yes I switched, and it was one of the good decisions I made in life.

Same here, the day I got a package of vape gear in was the day I stopped smoking...a few days later I could taste and smell things I had forgotten about and life became much more vibrant, now over 3 years later I feel like a million bucks and havent looked back. BT/Pharma have gotten there last dollar from me and shit better not go in their direction in the future.

same deal with me, i smoked a pack + for 29 years, and it took me aaaaabout 2-3 weeks to transition completely from analogs to vaping., most of that shit is mental... ( y'all know, the "oh my god i have no cigarettes" panic attack that we've all experienced one time or another...lol ) the key for making this shit stick for me was 3-fold, 1: getting used to the actual difference of taking a drag/draw of smoking analogs and vaping, 2: finding the right flavor/nic level that worked for me (i've gone from 18mg to 6mg so far) and 3: finding an adv. that i loved to make me continue to vape instead of smoke. It hasn't always been cheap, or easy, all of the time, BUT!, i'm proud to say, since may 1st, i haven't touched an analog., and godalmighty, just the smell of them makes me wanna hork. i don't miss that shit for a minute. :D

This, to a T. I think you'll find 95% or more of the members here are ex-smokers, or smokers who've used vaping to reduce their reliance on tobacco products. And virtually none of us think that non-smokers should start vaping because it's "cool," even though that's probably why we all started smoking when we knew it was a bad idea years ago...

I used to chew tobacco. Unlike most here, I never smoked cigarettes. However my career field is now putting it in contracts that you cannot chew either...

Vaping has saved my ass. I don't plan to continue it forever. But it's definitely helped get me off the chew, and now its helping me through medic school ;)

I don't know if 95% is completely accurate but I'll bet it's close. It would be interesting to find out. If you listen to the douchebags on the news and elsewhere vaping is under attack you'll get the impression that no one vapes but underage kids. And I wouldn't presume to speak for everyone on a forum, so I just put it out there advising against taking up vaping for non smokers. Then again BrattVapes does raise an interesting point with regard to his former chewing habit.

Funny, I used to track my savings from not smoking. It used to be fun 5 years ago because my e-cig costs were squat compared to smoking. Then I started tracking my vaping costs too. Now I ignore it because I can't justify the money anymore! Reminds me of Brian Regan. If I do this right ...

Yep. Used to go through a can a day. My old fire chief got me started.

Nicotine is great. The side effects down the road of traditional nicotine sources aren't.

Vaping has given me a new way to abuse nicotine and not want to put my fist/head through a wall while I drive myself into the ground with school and work.

I'm not going to touch on the underage thing. I'm close to making a post in the you mad bro section about it. One more time something happens and I'll be posting.

Cheers everyone...

Matt

So it would be better to stay off of nicotine altogether, but vaping is far better than smoking it seems.

As an avid cyclist who started smoking due to stressful circumstances, just to find out how bad it effected me. Changed over to vape, and now I can cycle just as good.

I know there are a thousand things wrong with smoking cigarettes, but from what I've been reading online (http://vapepens.kinja.com/why-you-should-put-the-cigarette-down-and-start-vaping-1747346825), vaping is so much better for you and allows you to gradually quit smoking (or even just vape instead).

I was wondering if anyone here had a personal experience with quitting smoking and starting to vape.

Let me know if you have any tips, pointers, or suggestions!

I smoked for roughly 10 years and vaping is the sole reason I'm no longer addicted to cigarettes. I've thrown out packs of cigarettes, wasted money on gum/patch/sprays AND spent roughly $100 on prescription Champix. The day I bought my first vape I finished the last of my pack and haven't bought one since. The first two weeks were rough, I was still getting nicotine, but going from a pack-a-day smoker to cold turkey probably wasn't my best idea. After the initial shock of quitting I honestly haven't had the want/need to buy cigarettes since.

Best thing you can do is wean yourself off, while getting used to vaping (especially if you're a heavy smoker). Have a lot of patience while your body goes through withdrawals, but remind yourself how much better off you'll be not smoking :)

Also, get ready to taste food again. Never noticed how much it messed with my taste buds until I quit, it's amazing!

Good luck!

Simply do it. Dual use if you need to for a short while. I think many of us did. It took me about 3 weeks to put the analogs down completely. Once I finally found an ADV and a Mod I could live with it became much easier.

And like someone else mentioned, I used to keep track of my savings. Now it seems pointless. Although I'm always pleasantly surprised when I balance my bank account every month.

I actually have money now lol

Whoa, jinx. Before I read your post I was just texting a friend about how much money I've saved since quitting (double that if you include my bf). It hasn't been long at all, you'd never believe how much you spend without realizing what it adds up to, my signature banner reminds me every day.

It's nice to know that you can invest some of that money into a decent mod, maybe premium juices, and you still probably won't be close to what you spent on analogs.

Stopped tracking my spending with reckless ababdon once I got good enough at mixing to cut my liquid cost to virtually zero and pump the money I make mixing for others into my too-rapidly growing mod collection, but suffice to say I'm ahead of the game. When you consider Mrs. Dave used to foot a bit less than half the bill for cigarettes but now spends nothing on vaping (to be fair she has student loans and I'm a junior college dropout after three freshman years) we're well ahead of the game as a household.

Learn to DIY, and really see the savings. You'll also learn what a real premium juice taste like ;)

If I didn't DIY, I would be about even for the year. Analog vs Vape

I think most people here are former smokers.

Not just here actually.
Most vapers in the world are former smokers.

There is a younger generation who are getting straight into vaping, skipping smoking. At least it's not smoking.

After a radical hernia surgery and 5 days in the hospital I asked my wife to take me to a local vape shop when I was released from the hospital. Bought a EgoOne, .50 coils and 30ml of 6mg juice and I haven't smoked a cig since. And have spent a small fortune since on vape gear and juice.

Bottom line is one really has to want to quit the cigs. Playing with it will not get the job done. I had played with quiting the cigs for years. Could tell they were killing me. Being in the hospital set me real straight on my lung and heart health and drove the nail home. I could never touch another cig.

My brother used to smoke about 2 packs everyday, he quit smoking after vaping for two month, the willpower is also very important

I don't think any of us, play with the idea. We just lack the will in stressful situations. It's too easy to light a smoke when things get to a certain level.

Having support is a big help. I have to give props to my girl. She was my biggest supporter. Never nagging, always encouraging. And went a step further, by allowing me to vape inside. Where in the past, I've always had to go outside to smoke.

My family also has embraced vaping as safer than smoking. And I vape inside, as long as the clouds aren't to thick.

Smoking really f%?ks your lungs up, and vaping doesn't. It is great to be able to walk up the stairs without panting when am up!
