Cinnamon Bakery Question

Just started with DIY about a month ago. I have tried several Cinnamon Bakery/Cereal recipes and have not had much success. Everything I have made tastes like Cinnamon Red hots or is harsh and lacking a definitive flavor of any kind. None of them have the rich amber look that commercial juice has or the rich bakery cinnamon that the commercial juice has. Am I missing something or do they need to steep for an extended time? Is there some "secret" ingredient that the commercial juices use that I just haven't discovered in my research yet? Any insight you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about the color. As for flavor, maybe a touch of AP (be careful, it's a strong one and can lawn dart a recipe quick, try maybe 0.25% to start) would bring in some of the grain flavor...

What brand(s) are you utilizing as flavors? What percentages?

A lot of commercial juices contain food coloring, which you don't want. DIY juices naturally darken with time.

I have tried all of the following in both recipes and as standalone.
CAP Cinnamon Danish Swirl (Standalone @ 12% in mixes @ 3-7%)
CAP Cinnamon Coffee Cake (Standalone @ 10% in mix @ 2%)
FW Cinnamon Roll (Standalone @ 13% in mixes 4.5 - 10%)
FW Cinnamon Churro (In mixes 2-5%)
TFA Cinnamon Danish (In mixes @ 2-10%)
TFA Cinnamon Sugar Cookie (In mixes @ 2-8%)
TFA Cinnamon Spice (In mix @ 2-3%)
FA Cinnamon Ceylon ( In mixes .5- 1 %)

Having the recipe you're trying to tweak would help a lot in giving more specific advice...
Thanks for your help. That is why I am so baffled by this. It hasn't been just one recipe. It has been like 10 different recipes from various sources. They all end up nothing like bakery cinnamon. That's why I have ended up with so many different cinnamon type flavors. Maybe cinnamon is just a tough flavor to get right. I would certainly be up for trying anybody's recipes and working from there with somebody so we would all be on the same page. Clearly I am nowhere near enough now that even tweaking will help. Thanks again.

I get the real deal from FA Cinnamon Ceylon, just like the kind you'd sprinkle on your toast. Have you tried your PG and/or VG separately to see if one of those might be the culprit? If one of those is funky, it can certainly ruin a mix.

How would you recommend to try them separately? My other mixes have turned out OK (especially a couple of HIC's, were better than any commercial juice I have ever tasted). Certainly is possible that one or the other (both came from Wizard) doesn't play well with cinnamon. I have tried with both Nude and VT Regular nic, so I am pretty sure nic isn't the problem. I am beginning to think that the recipes I have found so far are going in the wrong direction or they need time to steep for the cinnamon to mellow out.

Well, you can literally just "taste" them individually, or you can vape them. Do they smell like "nothing", or have an off odor to them? If they smell musky, they might be messing with your mixes. But... if you've had success with other mixes, then I'm not sure what it might be. I love FA Cinnamon Ceylon. I use it low, too.

I've used FW Cinnamon Roll at 7% stand alone and didn't get the red hots thing.

Baked Cinnamon Roll... http://www.onestopdiyshop.com/one-stop-flavors-1-oz/

A very under rated source for flavors, One Stop DIY Shop.... IMHO !
Have 5 or 6 of their Blends and none have let me down.
The Cinnamon Roll is Good Stand alone, or great with a few tweaks to add a creaminess.
Lucky Shot is another... more Graham Cracker like, can add a bakery note to some mixes.
Forget the others I have.... but will re order every one of them when they run out, and add a new one I have not yet tried with each order !

Anyways............
:)
