VaporShark DNA 200 - Discussion

I am at somewhat of a dilemma now. Since returning on VS and planning on waiting a few months for kinks to be worked out, really missing the power of DNA 200. Sort of want to get another 200 asap. Really reconsidering reordering VS and hoping that still will ship end of month after recall finish issues. The form factor is ideal and been great to work with.

My second choice was the Lavabox, after contacting them their release end of September is now going to get pushed out. Other options with smaller size are Militia mini and Lost Vape (delayed another week). For the right price Hotcig looks interesting, but not interested in ordering from China and for sure not Gearbest even for $115.

So guess looking for small form factor that will be in my hands quickly. Would love to reorder VS, really unsure I will not kill it again with chain vaping and Arizona heat though unsure what caused failure. Hcigar could be quick fix, but not really interested until they get SS 510.

Anything I am missing?

I was looking through the available mods last night with a friend whose looking. The one thing I would want if I didn't have a 2a charger would be longer battery life.
That would have me looking into the litt44, militia mods, lost vape Efision dna200 or even the new 3, 18650 protovapor.

Battery capacity and price was the main reasons for me to order the Vtbox200. (BULLSHIT) on the 1800mah it's more like 1300mah but anyway it's one of the larger capacity dna200's on the market. Alternatively there's the option to swap the battery like on the Hotcig D-N-A 200 and maintain a fairly small size, slightly larger than the VS if I recall correctly and at $125 with code "MAP" is a decent price IMO. My DNA 200 does seem to eat through the battery even at low power settings so the options are, 1. get one with fast charge. 2. get one with large capacity. 3. get one with easily replaceable pack

You have the red or white?
If ita the red, the battery terminals are backwards. It should be female side on the battery. Also, I'd be willing to bet that if you replaced that pack with a new one you would see your run Time increase drastically. I've read around that whatever pack they are sending with that mod is .... Not the best. Smoking deal for the mod, and a 3s lipo would be an inexpensive upgrade.

Yea I have the red/black, Battery came in over discharged 1.58V - 1.68V (USB Recovery Charge got it up and running) but the connectors are backwards and the 510 has come out due to the glue. So although Gearbest reported they had the latest version from the supplier and all issues fixed, again I say (BULLSHIT) on the "No Glue". I've glued it back in and opened a few TIckets with Gearbest, awaiting their reply before I start buying parts to fix this one. Not sure how much damage was done to the battery pack due to the over discharge if any or how safe it is at this point but It's working.

I, gonna venture to say, not very safe.
Upside is. A new battery pack is cheap(relatively speaking), so is jb weld.
But it sounds like gearbest is run by assclowns

Really trying to justify Militia mini, just bigger than VS, tend to think that both are high quality. Just not sure would like the form factor for extra price, all seem to be few weeks out. Lost Vape looks very interesting rather support local US based, though yes made in China. Idk, figure out this weekend I guess.

I want one of the mods I buy leading up to may (monthly mod buy) will be a DNA 200 and a YIHI 350J. I don't know what to go for, I can't seem to find one in the UK, just the actual board for sale.

This payday (Next saturday) I have up to £100 on a mod. I want to make it a good one.

Mentioning the Litt44, battery life, as expected, will get you through the workday with the TFV4(kanthal triple coil) at 65wt, my V-MODZ sx350j with the Samsung 25R'S running the silo beast in temp will last from 5:30am-10:00pm or longer depending how i vape at work, and has been my everyday vape since I got it (absolutely my favorite) build quality on the Litt is exceptional and the Dna200 is pretty cool but not better IMHO than the sx350j. I also picked up an XEVAPE dna200 1300mah aluminum which is good until about 6pm at 24.5 watts with an isubg, the TFV4 would run the battery down on this one in about 3 hrs. I have my eye on the Madd modder dna200 as my next purchase.

Pulled trigger on 2nd VS yesterday, not able to do without. It is surprising to me that there is not more discussion in this forum about DNA 200 mods. Can't wait to hopefully get by end of month. The Militia mod, cut out some cardboard to recreate size, not as good for me as VS.

my guess for the lack of discusiion is
1. many people got turned off by the dna40 fiasco, that not as many people on this forum bought it yet
2. lack of discussion usually means its working - people complain more then they do compliment
3. people will talk much more about the dna200 boards when the release the dna500 in december

I think another reason is with the total saturation of mods out there. It's getting tough to sell them when they are priced over $100. If they get the price down to under $100, I think you will see a lot more talk.

Get the points, not just the VS, but any DNA 200. There are a lot of discussions but just not here on VU.

The dna200 early adopters forum is a pretty chill place to lurk and get some info on the board itself. I won't engage in a conversation there really just information gather I recognize too many screennames from 'that' place . I can only imagine the dmz being rife with douchebaggery so I haven't even attempted to look there for any info.

VU is where it is at, will have to see if can get Early Adopters on Tapatalk. I feel I got it down, just cool to discover or hear about tweaks tricks that never knew about. Basically only read / research on phone for vape stuff. After being online all day with can't pull myself to laptop or desktop

I get that, I tend to get away in 4 hour blocks lol
Even then I'm in front of the tablet or a desktop with this running in the background.... so sad.
But really I have an actual life someplace.

Very cool, ordered Monday and shipped yesterday, eta Wednesday, though suspect will most likely be Monday. Either way back in the game. Did not order vapeshield this time around appears that might be causing a few week delay.

The DNA200 only appeals to a small segment of the vaping community. The DNA40 was much more mainstream because of it's predecessor, the DNA30. Time will tell...

Just got mine in this afternoon! Escribe is some serious software! Loving the vape from my Starre with the ss316L triton coils in tc mode, but can't get a dripper to not hit like it's hot spotting with ss316L 24g wires... any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

Set the tcr for your rda to 0.002
I use ::::
Dual 24g 9 wraps with 2.5id total resistance is usually between 0.19-0.21ohms

I set it at 50-55w with a preheat of 90-100w and punch at 8.5 for 1.5s

That's pretty much my standard parameters give or take which arty I'm using in tc usually a Petri, tugboat v2 or an Aeolus v2

Why isn't there a way to power down this device? I'm sure it doesn't use much juice in standby but it sure would be nice to power it down.

Never thought of that, don't really see point, but you could see that really not taking any power when not in use. I surly will forget but interested if you test it. Only time turn off other mods is sometimes when putting in bag to prevent from firing. With VS I just lock.

Got my VS again yesterday. Am a little concerned as when taking out of box noticed a rattle, don't think buttons or battery wiring behind door. Anyone else have this?

Think will get 2nd dna200 first before checking into options. Love the Militia as already mentioned, but more interested in a cheap beater device. The Hotcig looked interesting, but seeing issues reported. Smaller size is important and price point on this one as well. Considering building my own seems it would be 120-150, very interesting but unsure will have time to build. Lavabox on 5th could fit the bill, they seem to put out good product but a little larger than VS with same battery. Idk.

Very happy to have VS again, difference between other devices is very noticeable.

I've not seen any mod manufacturer that's using the DNA 200 board that hasn't had "issues reported". But there is another sale apparently with limited quantity of the Hotcig box going for $112.99. If you like the way the DNA 200 performs it may be a good deal for you. Personally don't like the inconsistencies in the DNA 200 or I'd grab one of these for that price.

It's the fire button. If you put your finger on it and shake the VS no rattle. IMO it shouldn't happen on a $200 device.

I'm seriously thinking about pulling the trigger. Does anyone have any feedback on this mod. I liked the look of the Hcigar Vt200 (iirc). Seems like this is a best bang for the buck, but it's not a bargain if it sucks.

Cheers,

The hotcig is put together well with no rattle and good size and feel. Plus they are planning on selling the battery packs with larger size lipos. Looks good and works great. I think you would not be disappointed especially at that price.

Fairly sure the rattle is not the fire button, swear was checking that yesterday. Will again later.

For Hotcig, seen fee reports of then dying and some concerns about charging. Can't ever do Gearbest again. For the price point Lavabox worth the extra 50 or even Lost Vape at same. Still intrigued about building, just not found time to put all the parts together.

Seems there are failures across all devices on Evolv forum and search, VS is the best I can find for my needs and US based is big bonus if run into issues.

VS is great also. Hotcig and the VS feel about the same in hand though the hotcig is a little heavier. VTbox200 is about the size of the snowwolf if you take the doors off (fat mod). So far I haven't had any issues but only been a few days. Either way you go, the DNA200 is a great board and Evolv seems to be willing to fix any problems with it. Will like whichever one you decide on.

Tell me how to build my SS 316 coils @f1r3b1rd , Looked around a little but not finding much and being lazy. Do you use contact or spaced, Pre-burn or not? Just picked up a Uwell crown and some 316L SS I want to try in the rba deck but pre-burning I'm coming up with some heavy hotspots and then the wire turns to looking like brass or copper, a yellowish color. Most of the searches I find are relating to mesh and not wire coils :(

I build them EXACTLY like I would Kanthal. Contact coils, wrenched down tight.
But as you've discovered heavy dry burning doesn't work well. I kick the power way down and quickly pulse and pinch.
Ceramic tweezers really owe for themselves here. Because you can hold them tight and just pulse away.
When I do pulse I kick the power way down, like maybe 15-20w if the glow they look they turn color.
Usually I just pulse until I know they are formed.

Thanks, so maybe I'm just heating them to hot too fast I'll try lower power and pulsing. Do you get them glowing and do yours turn yellowish? Reason I ask is the wire I have came from ebay, the resistance seems to check out correctly for 316L but I assumed it would just stay shiny. The listing said it was solid 316L & not plated but when it turned yellow it made me wonder.

I don't let them glow like Kanthal at all! if you do then they will turn yellow and then brown, I just hold them and pulse until they are formed and firm. once they are good and solid they are fine.

After they get used and you changed your wick you wanna pulse them not dry burn them. I pulse them and wipe them with demo cotton until clean. they'll be charred looking but not gunked, if that makes sense

Alright thanks. I'll give it another go round. Really like the idea of being able to use the same wire for either TL or Power modes and the stuff is pretty cheap in comparison and hopefully cleaner. I liked the .25Ω SS pre-made coil that came with it but haven't been able to build one to work yet. :(

Using it on any mod is the huge plus!!! I think the performance on nonTL mods is better than Kanthal, and it performs the same in TL only smoother.
Its really a no Brainerd as a cjoice of material.
Just kick the power down and dont worry anout the hotspots so much AMD you'll be fine,

The integrity of the connection and tightness of the build is really what you wanna focus on,
The stuff even has me running a kayfun 4 in TL, its so good....and I'm totally not a kayfun fan

Good info, I have got so used to spacing wire with majority being Ni and a few Ti builds not compressed SS yet. Been having good results spaced as well, but will for sure try compressing this weekend. Use UD SS 316L 26g.

The Goliath V2 been great with SS. No matter the build tend to get spikes on SS, but stayes right near temp setting. Ni or Ti are flat, really don't see this being a negative.

Have you tried any SS with a single coil? I was successful last night with your suggestions with a spaced coil but when I put it on the Vtbox200 the power output would spike so bad it was like turning it on and off during the draw, could feel it in the vape. So I made a contact coil and tried that. Worked for maybe 1 draw before the DNA 200 decided it wasn't a Temp coil and started dropping out of Temp Limiting mode into Power mode... I'm thinking the very low TCR of SS is more difficult to get to work smoothly with single coil or smaller mass coils. Running the Ni200 coil in it now cuz I was close to reaching my slinging across the room frustration level. :)

Did you set tcr ?
Tcr needs to be between 0.001 - 0.002
Or you can upload the tcr curve from steam engine but ive been getting better performance with 0.002

Yea I uploaded the table from both the Wire Wizard and the Old TCR tables. Only slight difference in the two but they basically worked the same.

I may give that a try next time I replace the coil but I don't have the ability to build dual coils in my atty and I'm thinking all the extra mass you have is helping to level the power bounce. Would love to see a screen capture of your Power output from Device Monitor with your duals.

I dunno dude, I have a single coil ss 0.43 0hms in my kf4 right now running in tl mode.
I wont be home till later but can do a screen shot this evening.
I know it is very dependent on connection and having all solid connections throughout. I'm using the replacement gold spring in the kf4 from vaperev, it wouldn't work with the stock spring.

Hmm, IDK then. I'll give it another go round next coil replacement. But if you happen to get around to doing a screen grab of your dual's I'd be interested to see the difference with your Kf4 power output from device monitor. I know the Uwell Crown pre-build SS coils worked fine and they are dual I just haven't had much luck building a single on the RBA deck for what ever reason. But thanks for all the tips I'm off to the fair for now.
