All my DIY has way too strong throat hit

I've been tinkering and wasting juice and money on this problem for some time and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I pretty much drip exclusively using high VG juice with 6 mg nicotine. 9 out of 10 of the 6 mg juices I have bought from my local b&m, Zeus Juice, and Mt Baker Vapor taste delightful with little to no throat hit (how I like it). Since I started DIYing my own juice it always has a very strong, almost stinging, throat hit. I have tried both MFS 60mg and Vapers Tek 100mg PG based nicotine with no change, I have tried MFS and Wizard Labs VG with no change, and have used Capella, TFA, and MBV flavorings with no change. Is there something I'm missing? I prefer making flavors that don't require long to steep but I have steeped to see if it helped which it didn't.

Process of elimination. Vape your nic+PG/VG with no flavoring to see if the problem lies in your nic base.
If unflavored is harsh, try the PG/VG without nic.
If unflavored is not harsh, try using less flavoring.

You can also double-check that you're diluting that 60mg/ml and 100mg/ml nic all the way to 6 mg/ml

I actually have done a few of those things but I plane on trying more. My working theory is that it's either the VG or the Japanese Cotton I bought around the same time as I started to do DIY. Another thing it might be is tat my room, where I keep my supplies, has been getting up to the mid to high 80's lately. I think the constant heat in my room has damaged the VG maybe. Either way it looks like I'm going to have to do it the long, costly way.

Also I use an ejuice calculator and a precise pipette pump for my nic, I'm also good with numbers so I run all the numbers in my head and the calculator multiple times before making my blends.

I just finished making a batch of zero nic and it had no throat hit. I gradually added nic at 1mg increments until I got a similar TH to the juice I buy a my B&M and I landed at about 4 mg. Considering I have gone through two types of nic, one of which was highly recommended for low throat hit and clean taste, I'm starting to suspect that all those "6mg juices" I bought were probably closer to 4 or 3mg. Either way I'm happy at 4mg because, although I like nicotine, I don't fiend for it like I used to with cigarettes.

Getting your nic in a VG base may help a little. I know what you mean about the cravings, nothing at all like it was for cigarettes. I got down to mostly 6mg, after realizing that I could go without for long periods of time I've started mixing a bit stronger.

I had this problem, and almost returned to the dreaded roll ups , however, just by steadily increasing the VG in the mix , the harshness has gone. Also, much to my surprise, adding 2-3 drips of candy floss, or any very sweet flavouring can change the overall taste entirely. I am not a fan if sweet tastes, but it just softens the mix.

I don't mind the taste of the nic, just the sting in the back of my throat. I'm definitely going to try downInTm suggestion and get a VG base. I've been vaping at about 4mg happily over the last day so I might just stick to that. One of my main concerns is that all the premixed juices I've bought at 6mg have had almost no throat hit regardless of the pg/vg ratio, so I wonder why my DIY does.

When Vapor Joes has had this 50.00 deal on Nic I for the first time got a 100%VG base I have been having sinus issues as I have decreased the PG seems to be better not sure yet.. :)

I know you can buy a nic test kit and test how much nic there actually is. I always buy my nic in vg. I suspect the nic u have is might be higher and perhaps a different wick type might also help. Good luck.

Yea, a VG nic base should fix your issue.

Note: testing juice with the titration test kit most sell does NOT work after favoring has been added. (You also cannot test premade juice)

Hate to Necro this thread, but I guess there was no reason to make another one, but I recently purchased some of the VT Nic (the non TH version) in VG, and whenever I mixed it up, it kicks the back of my throat like a mule! I normally vape my DiYs at about 3mg, 80%VG as I almost exclusively drip, but this mix seemed to kick like a high PG 12mg mix. Is there a chance I got sent the TH version on accident? Has anyone else experienced this?

As usual, the flavor is smooth, but man that TH is murder!

@Vaperstek any thoughts on this?

There's another thread somewhere on this where it turned out someone working at vaperstek was sending the wrong one out! Give them a call :)

Just got off the phone with Alicia there at VT, and found out I was one of those folks (potentially, anyhow) that got the TH nic on accident, and they're fixing it, without much in the way of questioning.

THAT my friends, is how you build customer loyalty!

Gotta be careful with nic especially if you're new to diy juice. That stuff is no joke. It's strong and it is dangerous. Use gloves when you handle it or mix. Wash your hands immediately afterward, etc. Also I've found that even with a 100% vg-based nic, I needed way less than I thought I did to get the kind of throat hit I wanted. I normally order juices at .3% (3mg) but I make all my stuff at .2%. Also some flavors can be downright harsh after first mixed. I run mine under hot water for a little bit then shake the buhjesus out of it. Then I let it steep in a dark little drawer for varying amounts of time until the flavor is where I want it.

Absolutely agree with everything you said! I've been mixing for about 2 years myself, and my friends prefer to let me do the mixology, mostly because they know I take all the precautions I need to.
Heck, when I started mixing, it was with a "safe" 24mg base that I then dilluted, and even then I wore gloves and a shield.
I really hope anyone treats nicotine that's new to mixing with the respect it deserves.

I had same concern once before and vt sent me a new bottle no questions asked a day told me to keep the original. If yours is vg based make sure you shake it up real well to ensure you don't have any nic "hot spots"

This goes for any VG based Nic! Shake it until you feel like your arms are about to fall off and you're in one of those horrid shake-weight commercials.... you know the ones I am talking about ;)
