Silverplay V2 vs. Billow V2

As a member of VU for many months now, I seldom (never) post new threads, but I did a rather in depth first look at the new Silverplay V2 today and I figured my notes may be helpful to someone weighing their RTA options in a market flooded with big airflow, big juice capacity tanks that make big claims. I'll include a TL/DR at the end for the folks as lazy as me...

I have formatted these notes in a slightly unusual way, almost as a comparison with the tanks I have had a bit more time to play with. The only reason I have had a chance to play with this tank is because my brother @Sully ordered it before going away on business for the week, and had it delivered to my house. He encouraged me to review it before he returns (tomorrow) so that he could have an idea of what he bought, and for my own enjoyment. I personally have experience with and own all of the following tanks- Nautilus Mini, Atlantis V1, Billow V1 (black and silver), Arctic, Goblin, Goliath V1, VTC Pro, Zephyrus (latest release, RTA only so far), and the Billow V2. I've been using the Billow V2 primarily for the past few weeks, with some Zephyrus, VTC Pro, and Billow V1 use on the side. :Let's just say- Between my brother and I we have ALL of the subohm RTA's. So I have a bit of experience. The guys at the local B+M (Preferred Vapor) call us the Tank Boys. We were subohming with tanks before most f them had seen such a thing, and suffered through the growing pains with tanks before they matured to what we know today. Anyway...

Here's the Silveryplay V2 notes:

Unboxing-

-1-1,5mm shorter than Billow V1

-Exactly the same height as Billow V2

-Exterior and deck machining were superb on SVPV2

-Chimney, chamber and threads less-so but still machined very nicely

-Billow V2 machining a bit more polished and nicer

-Glass is very thin- but there's two in the box, along with a stainless tank, which is even thinner and may hold more juice (slightly)

-Two top caps are VERY thick and heavy. Solid stainless, and definitely the heaviest part in the assembly

-AFC ring was looser than I'd expect, and had a gap near the o-ring until seated on a mod.

-Drip tip is deeply rifled and tiny. Thnk Zephyrus style, Derringer size.

- Chamber is removable from chimney and from tank base, but has flat sides, so it locks into the tank base and they must be screwed on together/assembled. This is exteremely reminiscent of the Goliath

-There is no extra internal chamber barrel to hold cotton and builds intact when the tank section is removed like the Zephyrus RBA, or more importantly the Billow V2, where this was done very intentionally.

-The deck on the SVPV2 is not removable like the Billow V2, and is easily larger than the BV2, Zephyrus, Goliath, or Goblin. But it's smaller than the Billow V1.

-The coils can be build as high at the tops of the screw heads, and not interfere with the chimney being screwed on.

. All threading assembles and disassembles very smoothly.

-No major machine oil visible, no odor.

Cleaning/Building:

-Washed all parts included with a tooth brush and dish soap twice thoroughly using HOT water. Soaked them in hot water and rinsed thoroughly. Did not boil.

-The round top cap did not have the o-rings installed, but the o-rings are included.

-BUILD- Dual parallel 26 gauge on a 2.5mm coiler, 8/16 wraps @ 0.2 ohms on the Sigelei 100+. This build has proven itself to be almost exactly 0.28 ohms over and over again for me. I haven't checked steam engine. I vaped it from 30-70 watts, 65 was the threshold of dry hit territory with this build. 50-55 was ideal.

The above build fit more easily than any of my tanks, less the Billow V1. It's my brother and I's go-to with very little editing.

-Juice/Cotton wells are enormous. A thick wick can be tucked all the way to the bottom with very little coaxing.

-At first, I wicked it all the way down the wells to the bottom of the chamber/deck. This resulted in a dry/flavorless vape which made me a bit displeased with the tank at first. I suffered along without a dry hit and no hissing this way for about ¾ tank.

-When I took the tank off to refill I trimmed them above half way down the channels. This helped tremendously with flavor and wicking.

- I used 80/20 VG/PG juice- the same flavor and batch as I have the Billow V2. The flavor seemed muted compared to the BV2 by about 5-10%

-The airflow on the SVPV2 is about 20% greater than the BV2 in my estimation.

-The SVPV2 and BV2 produce a comparable amount of vapor at 50-55 watts, but the SVPV2 is a bit cooler. The vapor from the BV2 is definitely thicker, tastier and more filling and satisfying, however.

-Voltage and ohm reading were 100% stable throughout my testing. The BV2 has been known to jump around a bit because of it's removable deck causing the occasional unexpected dry hit. This has happened with the BV2 far less for me than my brother.

-The 510 is very adjustable and the position of the screw did not affect the above point whatsoever on the SVPV2.

-The bottom tank fill method is fairly painless, but smaller slots than the BV2 make the latter easier and faster to fill and I predict thicker (95% VG) juices will have a challenge slipping through the slots for filling and wicking on the SVPV2.

---

TL/DR

My Rating-

Silverplay V2- 8/10

Pro's: very good quality device. Lots of goodies included, but not everyone will care. A thoroughly thought out design, everything appears to be where it ought to be. Very good looking tank and feels heavy. You're getting more metal than it's $30-$40 counterparts. The addition of bottom fill was overdue, but works great. Building and wicking this tank is one of the easiest I've tried to-date.

Con's: Too pricey at $60. Juice slots on the bottom of the tank are slim, making high VG users want to cringe. Vape was satisfying but a bit airy- this could be my build- but in all my other tanks this is the best build! The chamber has to be unscrewed and slid off of your cotton and build to fill from the bottom of the tank ( They have also included a bottom fill screw so people will not complain about this!) In my opinion, none of these cons are worth stopping someone from buying this tank.... just areas of improvement for the V3, perhaps.

Billow V2- 8.5/10

Pro's- easy filling. The little chamber inner wall to protect your build from on and off's of the tank during filling. The machining quality. The drip tip. The 23mm look. The flavor, and density of vapor production at reasonable wattage, nothing I have comes close.

Con's- Tighter draw, removable deck and not-really-adjustable 510 which can cause connection problems for some.

I may be experienced with RTA's, but I am in no way the end-all authority. I welcome others' suggestions for builds and notes on the tank. I most anxiously await @Sully adding his comments and opinions as I learned most of what I know from him. I am happy to answer what questions I can from my limited experience with the Silverplay, and of course any of the other tanks I have listed.

Nice review, and I second all the comments made for the SPV2, except the airy part. No problems at all vaping 80/20 juices.

I didn't try the Billow V2 yet, but will be getting one soon.

I'm currently debating the Billow v2 vs the goliath v2 pre order at 39.99 5.1ml dual or single coil, I like the adjustable juice ring for when it's in my pocket, will be my first rta, comming from rda kinda guy

Mike, great review! Just got my SPV2 last night. Any issues with the afc ring falling off or loose? I have a Sigelei 150 watt and almost all my tanks jump around in ohms unless I put a o-ring around the 510 pin. Because of this, I cannot fully crank down on the silverplay and makes the afc ring real loose. Driving me crazy. About ready to loc-tite that thing down. Also, any leaking issues? I've tripled checked that everything was put together tight, but still experience a little (not much) leakage around the base. (Might be that I can't fully twist down the tank??) Best way to fill it? I hate the bottom screw because mine seems to bubble up and over even with a syringe, and I've just been unscrewing the top cap and holding down the glass and filling it that way. (65VG, 35PG) Other than that, I'm getting great flavor and good vapor production. Just that slight leakage, and loose afc ring, and PIA refill has me staring back at my Lemo 2 that I've shelved since last night. Maybe even go a Billow V2. I would appreciate any thoughts you have on it. I'd expect this out of a $30 RTA but not a $60 one. I'll give it a couple of days of screwing with it before being thrown on the used market.

Yes to the loose AFC ring, until screwed down flush. The leaking is not "juice" perse', every bottom AFC ring tank I have gets wet on the bottom from what i gather is condensation from vape exiting the bottom of the deck air holes under normal use. As for filling, the metal part immediately below the glass should be tightly attached to the tank and they whole top assembly north of the airholes should screw off together for filling. Tough to grab the bottom but a little blue screw driver in the airhole keeps it from turning while you're unscrewing the tank. @Sully has the tank now so perhaps he can elaborate.

Thx for the reply!!! I took it all apart and slowly and carefully put it all back together. (Last night was excited and in a rush.) Wish the owners manual did a better job explaining the bottom metal part better. Much easier now. I got her cooking. Great flavor, and great vapor. Lets see if she holds up. Thanks for your help!!!!!

Great review! I am currently loving my Cthulhu-rta sitting on my m-class with dual 28ga ni200,2mm i.d., 16 wrap each for about .090 ohm. I've been debating on getting either the spv2 or billowv2 for a few weeks now. I love the deep juice wells, huge build deck and nice air flow of the cthulhu but having to drain the tank to check on coils and wick sucks. After reading your reviews I think I'll just get 1 of each lol. Put one on my ipv4 and the other will go on the dna 200 cloudmaker when she gets here in august lol. Cheers!

Very good description. I am wanting to get the spv2 but I just ordered a Goliath v2. Have you tried out the Goliath v2 yet? And if you have which would you recommend more the Goliath v2 or spv2? I have the billow v2 now which I have been vaping on for a month now and is an awsome warm tasty vape @ 45 watts on a nichrome 24 gauge 4 wrap dual coil build which comes out to .23 ohms but I find if I crank it to 50 watts or higher its just too warm. I'm looking for an rta that still gives a cool hit and blows a cloud any suggestions?

Yes, i've had the goliath ii for a few weeks now. My brother, @Sully has had better luck with both of those tanks so far. Maybe he can chime in. GII has better airflow than SVPV2 but a smaller build deck. It also has premade coils. I preferred the GII but neither were superior to the Billow 2. My brother has a different style and vaping technique than I do, and he disagrees.

Awsome thanks for the help. I'm really digging this billow2 but I need something with more airflow as I'm used to rda's that are wide open but I just started back to rta's due to the more advanced deck builds and fill options as the Russian 91% was my last rta. Are the Bv2, Gv2, and the SPv2 the latest rta's on market?

Add the Goblin Mini to the list and those seem to be the latest worthwhile RTA's, yes. I've seen a conceptual sketch of the Cthulu V2. Looks billow v2 esque, with a single coil option as well. They move quickly at Cthulu, so I'm not sure when it will be released.

Cthulhu v1 is the best vapin rta there is. Hands down. It does have it's pains and the looks of it aren't flashy. I have bought them all. G mini, spv2,bv2,...the cthulhu blows them all away in end results. I hope cthulhu mods doesn't blow it on the v2! For this thread I will say that the billow v2 is easier to work on and more smooth then the silverplayv2.

I like the Goliath II followed by the SilverPlay V2 followed by the Billow 2. GII has the most airflow by far and is a serious cloud chasers tank. SP2 has a nice balance of airflow options and flavor, it also has the largest deck, which supports more versatile builds. Billow 2 has the tightest draw but makes very satisfying dense clouds with the best flavor of the 3. My 2 cents...

Maybe off topic a little but Has anyone tried pancake wicking in any of these dual coil rta tanks? I did the spv2 last night and have had no issues so far. Flavor seems to be a tad better also.

Well thank you all for the info. I think I'm going to order the Cthulhu and give it a try also while I wait on my G2. Is the Cthulhu refillable without bottom screw?

You can order the Cthulhu-rta on great best for 17 dollars and free shipping.
It does have top fill but if you don't do it just right it will leak badly so I always use the bottom screw personally.

I just got my Silverplay V2 in and I'm loving it. I was a pretty big fan of the V1 too but the improvements on this one really make it a much better vape. I'm primarily a dripper but when I do vape with a tank I reach for this one or my Zephyrus now.
