Subtank occ coils

I have the subtank plus and have bee running the .5 occ coils for out and about , I have found a few odd things and wondered if anyone else has the same issues , I run the coils on my eleaf 50w istick or my newly purchased cool fire IV , when I install a new coil I fluff the cotton and usually run a push pin all the way through both sides for wicking issues and this works great for me , but my question/ issue is I can run the coils at 25-30 watts for 3-5 days on premium juice (high vg) fruity type flavors and then get a burn tasting hit , coils are wet and thoroughly saturated but still get burnt after flavor . When this happens I drop my watts to 19 and get another 3-4 days of full flavor hits with no burnt taste at all , after this I replace the coil , I have tried rewicking g and rebuilding and have good and bad results going both ways . Anyways I am rambling now ..... has anyone else had this issue or know of anyone with similar issues ....? On a side note my own diy juice mixed at 85vg-15pg with 15% fart flavors always seems to give me a couple more days on the coils both ways , don't know what it means but could use some pointers here to make my coils last longer if possible !

I never go up to 25-30 watts on any of my six Subtanks, but only on my drippers I do. Since I usually do mouth to lung, I usually use 6.5 watts for most of my heat sensitive ejuices. Comparing to temperature control, it is about 400ºF with mouth to lung. And I rarely use the OCC heads, but just the RBA. But I think this would be about the same. As if I burnt the cotton, you might recover on flavor. But it really starts leaking badly until I replace the cotton. And I have burnt soaked cotton as little as 4.5 watts. With lung hits you would use much higher watts because of increased air flow cools down the coil(s) so much.

Just ordered a mutation v4 , all of my juices taste great on my dark horse , but that may be the issue , next batch I will cut them down to 8-10% and see if that helps any , 19 watts on my subtank usually gives me good clouds and flavor so probably don't need to go higher , at 30 watts on my dark horse flavors are really present and huge clouds , I will dial it back a notch and see how that goes

I have the Subtank Mini and did run into this issue when I cleaned the sub-ohm OCC coil one day. Washed with hot water, set to dry for a day. Primed it, thought I primed it, then just got dry hit after dry hit until I completely closed off my airflow and REALLY took some serious primer hits without firing. I mean suck an egg through a garden hose primer hits. After that it worked fine even on 80% VG. I also ran a small tank of 50/50 through it first to try to flush out anything that had dried in the cotton. Never let them dry out. I can run 50/50 through the .5 at 40W. The RBA is amazing, I'd highly suggest getting a method down, works just as good.

Yeah the old horizontal occ coils have wicking issues, they look like they would work great but that is just not the case. I would have 1-2 good coils out of a pack and that was just not cutting it for me. So my fix was to just use the mini rba and it works great, i can vape 70/30 or 80/20 juice with it up to 25w with no issues. Now i just today got the new Sub Box and it came with the new improved occ veritical coils and mini rba. I have been testing out the new occ coil and so far it is working awesome. 2 tanks of juice at 25w with not one wicking issue or dry hit. With the old occ coils i would never run them past 18w and i was alway worried the next hit would be burnt. So those that dont rebuild or use the mini rba coil therenus hope coming with the new vertical occ coils. They come in 1.5ohm and .5ohm for us sub ohmers out there. I will be doing a full review thread on the sub box kit here soon once i give all of it a good run threw.

I have a lot of issues with my RBA on my Subtank Mini - it always tastes burnt unless I take those long, hard primer hits like CloudySkies mentioned. Depending on the mix of juice, the OCC coils (.5) only taste right to me on really low watts on my kbox (like, 13-20) and I still feel like I have to take those primer hits. I managed to re-wick an OCC .5 coil and that was a thing of beauty.

im have used both .5 occ coils, the ones with the white gasket and the ones with the red gasket. Both last me about 3 weeks. I run 95/5 vg juice at around 22-23w. I occasionally have to poke some hole sin the cotton with a pin. I have used 2 red gasket 1.2s 2 red gasket .5s and 1 white gasket .5 so far

Its all in how you wick it. Look up pancake wicking. I can run my rba at 25 watts with 70/30 or 80/20 juice no no issues. Also look at how to open up the juice holes a little, google is your friend. The new rba plus works even better.

I find whenever I have even 1% fart flavors that I need to run to the bathroom because you just never know when that next fart can be a slipper if you are not precisely careful ;)

It's probably the gunk burning on the wire in the coil that you're tasting. I use the rba and after four days (sometimes sooner depending on the juice) I usually need to rewick because it loses flavor. My wicks don't look burnt and are always saturated when i replace them but the build up on the kanthal is killing the flavor and adding the burnt taste. I burn it off add a new wick and keep on with the same coil. I quit using the OCC coils as soon as I ran out of what came with the tank. The flavor is much better with the rba. And I typically stay under 20 watts.

i use my own juice
95/5 vg/pg
peach/mango is my main flavor
now i did notice on this white gasket .5 I am on
it started giving me burnt hits after 10 days but a little prodding of the wick with a pin fixed that for now

They work great. I was vaping 80/20 at 28 watts with the new vertical coil and it just kept wicking. Very impressed with the new occ coil. But yeah you cant fi d them anywhere yet. They are only coming with the new K Box Mini kit as of right now.

I just rebuilt my first OCC coil. After I removed the old coil inside the OCC, it was all gunked up. Haha, it wasn't firing the first try but then I found out that my negative lead of the coil was touch pin for the positive lead. Only problem I kinda messed up on is I may have packed in too thick of a cotton that my airflow is bit restricted. *facepalm*

Lots of places are shipping them.

The originals come in 2 resistances.

The new ones come in 3 resistances.

Its confusing though because the only way you'll know its the vOCC seems to be the back of the box showing the 3 resistances (at least the ones I have). It's just a subtle change.

My thought is the old ones will vanish from the marketplace based on the packaging being more or less identical (just speculation).

But yes, my kbox did come with the vOCC coils.

Ok so , picked up a vertical occ today from a local b&m to test it out , I've already vape about 10ml through it at 35 watts and zero dry hits or burnt hits on my own 85/15 high vg dripping liquid , I am Impressed . Going to order a couple 5 packs and see what kind of life I am getting from them but so far I am renaming this coil Mr. Norris cuz it's chucking like the little engine that could !
