I Thought Vaping Was Supposed To Be Cheaper Than Smoking???

2 months ago I bought an eGo style starter kit and 50 mils of juice for about $70. It was supposed to last about a month. WAY cheaper than smoking.

Or so I thought...

I now have 2 eGo style sticks, an Innokiin MVP 20W box, 3 Aspire ET-S glassomizers, an ARO cartomizer, an Aspire Nautilus tank, a Patriot RDA, about 15 different juice flavors, 25 or so FA flavor concentrates, a liter of 100mg nic, 500 ml each of PG and VG, a multitude of unused glass and plastic bottles, a bunch of atomizer heads for the Aspire and ARO carts, syringes and needles, and more miscellaneous stuff floating around. I also have MORE FA flavors on the way, as well as kanthal wire, a coil jig, Mama J's "Game Over Custard" (had to try it!), and a SMOK mini RDA for DIY flavor testing.

This is not cheaper than smoking.
I think I may have found a new hobby.

Thanks for listening,
CC

Oh, I also have a couple V2 rechargeables and a couple of Blu starter kits. I don't use them anymore.

All it takes is time. But yea, it can turn into a hobby pretty easily :p

If you really want to save some money, plan out a budget. Take how much you spent on cigs per month and figure out how much you've spent on vaping stuff so far. Then you can have a baseline to get back on track to saving money. Just imagine your monthly cig budget is your vape budget. It might take a few months without purchases or less purchasing to get back on track, but DIY Juice will help saving money immensely.

I have a spreadsheet in Apache Open Office (a free open source clone of MS Excel) that I record all purchases I've made that are DIY related.
I've spent $67.99 on materials so far (syringes, beakers, etc)
I've spent $390.84 on flavoring, vg, and nic
Total invested in DIY: $458.83

It may seem like a lot of money,
But, I have enough nic, VG, and flavoring to make 9,920ml of liquid which comes out to $0.046 per ml.
So far I've made 2,045ml at a cost of $0.22 per ml

I'm 11 months in and have saved close to 40% on what I used to spend. I'm very well stocked. Hundreds of flavors, 5 mods, liters of nic, gallons of VG etc.
I use my banner to keep track of my budget and reduce the number of cigs I used to smoke when the money grows higher than I need.

I figure if I stay under the $400 a month I used to spend on cigarettes I'm good! My husband might argue. Lol!

At least I have physical items and better health to show for my expenditures, though. That's my justification for my shiny-itis and I'm sticking to it.

In theory, if a brand new vaper started by picking out the absolutely perfect APV and topper, had a next door neighbor that had a black belt in coil/wick assembly and a roommate that was gifted in the art of making E-Liquid and taught this new vaper all of these skills...............

And then this new highly educate vaper bought the perfect APV, Topper, Xtar 4 bay charger and several pairs of VCT5 batteries wire wick and tools, ordered a decent quantity of PG, VG and nic (all on sale of course as it seems that I am actually writing a fairy tale at this point, this lucky individual would save an absolute freaking fortune compared to his/her 2 pack a day smoking habit.

And of course they would have been injected with a vaccine against all forms of Shinyitus.

Could happen?

I'm running from that vaccine if it ever comes true! Thinking about and playing with the goodies keeps my mind off cigs. Also it's MUCH less expensive than a lot of other recreational pursuits. I'll justify it 'til the end... :)

In two months you have come a long way. Wow! I have had the same journey but spread out over almost 2 years. It gets cheaper but it took awhile for me to get to that point. DIY juice is saving me tons!!!

It did cost a bit in the beginning, but once you found a few setups that you really enjoy, the spending slows down a tad.

Baby upgrades will break your bank.
Get a good mod like an IPV or a Sig. A good sub tank and or dripper. Battery charger and batteries.
DIY if you want to. Outside of nic, vg and or pg the flavorings will run you a bit.

Saving money.

I guess it's a matter of preference and perspective. You could do just fine with a spinner mod and an ego if the only goal is to not smoke. But, for many it's a hobby that goes far beyond that, and even then it is not difficult to keep the costs well below that average monthly bill of smoking cigarettes. But it is also easy to get caught up in the hobby and spend quite a bit more. Personal preference here really.

But the perspective on the costs? Even the most expensive mods and hobby splurges are modest when compared to treatment for stage III or IV small cell lung cancer. Plus you'll have the time to exercise bragging rights for your mods and equipment.

Perspective is also important.

Amen sir. Too many slowly work their way up. I say start with high performance devices then sit back and take your time finding the next piece of gear you want instead of trying to find the next device you need because what you just bought isn't cutting it. And diy is a great money saver unless you absolutely go off the deep end and get years worth of supplies and every possible flavoring you can find. Wish I could do that. ;)

Sucker......there's won born every minute........cheaper....... hahahahahahahahahahah you're killing me..
It depends.... once you've finally found the vape you like, the gear you like......if you can control yourself...and do DIY...then yeah it can be cheaper than smoking.....but it might cost you a grand to get to that point.

No, shit....cancer is pricey....makes a hellfire collection look dirt cheap....and it's a pain in the ass....if you can avoid cancer and copd and it cost you a fotune youre getting away cheap is how I look at it.

I could go back to an evod kit and not smoke...Rebuilt my own coils and a 100ml bottle from vista vapers lasted me about a mo th...so figure the 20 or so in coil rebuilding items and 20 a month for e juice...Was considerably cheaper...Now i have a few mods..a bunch of tanks and do diy.

Like many i found other things interesting so, ventured off into the hobby side..Still dont have much compared to some but i gotta do something with the 200 a month i wasted on cigs...Not that i make that my budget for vape gear per month, its just nice to know its there.

Yeah... I've spent a little over a $1000 on RDAs and mods alone, not even exaggerating. Only to end up with 3 still working mods because I was too rough with the others.

It's still worth it in the end, at least in my opinion, I used to smoke 2 packs a day and now I'm down to 5 cigs a day.

Vaping is far less expensive for me than tobacco was. I've got all the gear I need and then some. And I DIY my ejuice.

Vendor ejuice is a ripoff. If you don't DIY your juice then you'll probably spend a lot more on vaping than you did on tobacco.
