since i started this thread i suppose inshould update it with my first temp reg mod purchase.

i waited this long and could not wait anymore. i ended up copping a white evic vt even tho the battery is built in (not a fan). the 5000 mah capacity helped me rationalize it.

should be here tomorrow. will try with Ni wire first, but likely going to be using Ti.

ok carry on!

bumping up an existing thread :)

So, I already have the smok m80 pro plus. However, I am looking for another TC mod. I generally vape at 20W and will move to TC once my Ni wire comes in. Any suggestions on a good TC mod.

Are you looking for a single or dual 18650 option? ATM My daily driver is an IPV3 Li, I really like it. Other 2 cell options that are popular are the Sig 150 TC, IPV4S, and Snow Wolf 200.

Popular single cell mods are IPV D2 and the Sig 75 TC. These are just a few off the top of my head and are no way all-inclusive. Good luck!

Cheers,
Steve

yeah man, after posting here I did some research of my own. came down on 3 options

  • Snowwolf 200
  • Sig 150TC
  • IPV4S
  • rdna 40
Not sure on the rdna 40 though. Am bending towards the snowwolf 200 as it can go down to 0.05 ohms.

well out of your choices and based upon what others have posted
go with the sig its or snow wolf
another one you may want to add to your list is the IPV 3LI it seems to be better built then the ipv 4s

Just curious, why aren't you considering the IPV3 Li (wondering because I was looking at that one)?

Whatever you get, I would get one that is capable of temp control. Doesn't mean you have to use TC, it can do watts with kanthal the same as the non TC mods but after using a TC mod for the past month, I'm spoiled and am not going back.

I would also rule out a 40w mod, too limiting. 50-60 watts or more.

I have a question for you. I am new to vaping, just started vaping 10 days back. I enjoy it :)
I have a smok m80 pro plus and using it with the Mutation X4 RDA (yes I jumped straight to a RDA, my Kanger subtank mini should come in tomorrow).
The X4 has kanthal setup right now and m80 shows it at 0.16 ohms. I vape at 15-20Watts, higher than that gets too hot for me. So one thing I know is that I like cold vapes. Now, the juice I have is called Burst 80Vg/20Pg and 0 nicotine. Inspite of that sometimes when I vape I get a hit in my throat which causes me to cough. What am I doing wrong here.

Also, will TC help me vape the colder vapes more effectively.

If the coil is spitting at you and throwing juice in your lungs, that's probably not enough power (watts too low for the coil resistance)... if that'swhat you're saying.

I prefer a cool vape too and I think in that case TC is mandatory.
It takes longer for a low power setting to get a coil going that doesn't vape too hot.
Or you can set it to higher power and get the coil going faster but then you end up with a hot vape.

TC you can set the power high to get the coil(s) up to temp in a split second but it will moderate the power to keep it at your set temp instead of overshooting your perfect temp like a regular watt mod would set to a high setting.

Most people like 420° to 450°, I have found my preference around 380° to 400° but I do like the coil to get crackin when I press the go button so I set a high Joules setting and a low temp setting.

the coil aint spitting, just that the vape hits my throat hard even though it has 0mg nicotine.

As for TC, what tank or RDA are you using and can you let me know the resistance you have on the coils.

Oh, and my brother in law has the smok 80 and that's not TC, its like a power curve that tapers after a second or two so it kind of mimics TC.

You will like a real TC much better.

I use many rebuildables and one arctic subtank. Subtanks are easy to deal with but I do prefer to build my own... and no one is putting out a coilresistance that I like... yet.
I build to ~0.065, what yihi says is optimal and I think their right as it runs better than a 0.1 or 0.15 coil.

Probably more like if you set 40w, it gives 40... maybe even 45w and then after some set time pulls power down to 35w.

I think subohm vaping is something your throat/lungs get used to. After a while the cough will most likely go away.
You could have an allergy to VG or PG in your juice.
Maybe try a high VG dripper juice (like 80% or greater) and also try an old school juice that is 60% PG and see if one makes you cough more than the other.

I have no issues with either but some people can only vape high VG juice, others can only vape PG juice. A majority are not affected, but maybe you are one of those that has issues with one or the other.

Still fairly new with box mods so-o...please pardon my ignorance. The istick tc mods aren't desired? Talk of different chips? Yihi? Please educate one of the masses :)

I haven't used an istick, maybe others will comment.
Yihi 350j chip is great, buy direct from varitube in case anything goes wrong, imo. After sales support on a device you dropped $200+ on can be very important and yihi will direct you to whoever you bought it from when you want to go to varitube.
Sounds like the new sig chip will be good.

I would look for something with buck capabilities as a #1 on my shopping list (can fire below 3.4/3.6v).
From there, sig and yihi seem to have the least failures. Menu functionality is another priority, yihi's memory slots are silly. Sounds like sig did memory slots right on their new chip.
