Suggestions on a new battery charger

I have been using the nitecore I4 charger for over a year, and have had no complaints at all with it. I took it with me on a trip out of state and while clearing out a house, it got picked up and thrown out ( I still can't believe it). I need to pick one up soon and have my eye on the new nitcore D4 digital charger. Any one tried these chargers and is it worth upgrading? Any suggestions are welcomed.

I have the Nitcore D2 and love it! I have only had it a few weeks but so far so good. I had no reason to get the D4.

I have had a FT purchased Nitecore I4 from about two years ago and its still going strong and does triple duty with three vapers in the house. I have heard of other more expensive chargers from members on the "other forum"....somr had made what I thought at the time were pretty comelling arguments why they are better.
Now that I have thousands of charging hours under my belt, all I can say is the old I4 does a good job and I have bought another one not too long ago "just in case" something happens to the old one.

In my opinion, the best way to feel better from a loss such as yours, is to upgrade to a better one.

I have an i2 and i4 and have no good reason to buy a D4, but I still want one. :D
I like the Mah reading abilities. See what capacity the batt actually has rather than what's on the label.

I love my i4. I suspect i won't have to replace it for many years. At least, not until we're all using 38900 batteries.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was ready to get another nitecore i4, because it is reliable and i've had no problems with it. But after seeing the new upgraded D4 I was curious to see if it was worth it. I think I'll pull the trigger on the new one. It should be just as good as the previous version and they have a proven track record of reliable equipment. I'll report back and let you know how it compares.

Treat yourself and get the D4.

It is getting rave reviews from the different flashlight and battery forums that seem to be a whole lot more picky than we vapers are!

I rock 3 I4's but that being said if I was buying today I would be buying a LUC4 or a D4...

I got my D4 yesterday and been using it for a couple of charging sessions. I charged some 18650's and a couple of 18350's.The 18350 batteries have no issue making contact and are a quick charge with no problems. I've never had a problem with the springs on my I4, but you can tell the springs on the D4 have been upgraded. The power cord has been upgraded, and feels more solid or better constructed. Digital display is easy to read and not complicated. It gives each battery their voltage reading and it keeps track how long the battery has been on charge. These are nice features that will go a long way in determining and keeping track of a batteries overall life span. From a basic users viewpoint it works as good as the I4 with couple of new useful features. It's definitely worth getting.

quick question please, is the only difference between the d2 and d4 the 2 or 4 batteries, or is there something else. I looked through my manual but the writting is so damn small.

i thought I read the D4 gave the battery mah output. But the D2 just gives the charging mah.
thanks

Congrats on your new toy! What is the mAh rating on your 18650s and how long did they take to charge?

I've got an i4 for home & i2 at work. Both have been perfect for me. If I ever get into 10440 & 14500 around the house I'll probably get the digital one.

I dropped a couple beers last year. One hit my phone & crippled it within seconds. The other hit my charger while in use. Threw it in a bowl of rice for a day. No problems since.

Xtar makes solid chargers. Got a WP2H to charge both 4.2 and 4.35 batteries.

I got an i4 off an ebay auction for like $16 a couple months ago. Came in legit box and all, never had a single problem. I think it actually fixed a few 18650s that had shorted somehow! Very happy with the charger, but the geek in me really wants that D4! Lots of cool stuff that I don't really understand, HAHA!

If I was looking for a new charger. The Xtar WP2H or VP2 is what would be in my basket.

I got a LUC4 in case my i2 dies. Now the i2 is my backup, love the adjustable charge of the LUC4, and it cuts off sooner, like 4.06v. Much better than the i2.

The i4 is my first and it does what I need it to do. I don't need anything fancy. Just insert, charge, repeat.

LUC V4 works great trickle charge, and settings for .5, 1.0, and 2.0 amps. http://www.amazon.com/Efest-LUC-V4-Multi-function-Batteries/dp/B00HWMFB9Y

The best charger hands down and I have all of the above is the Vstar VP1 or better the VP2 not only will the VP1 revive batteries that have been totally uncharged it will fix overcharged batteries something the Nitecores have a habit of doing with certain batteries they are expensive at 49.99 but worth every penny

I'm happy with my I4...does a great job for what I need...there are more expensive chargers out there with more bells and whistles, but they should cost more....they have more bells and whistles....lol

Looks great. But can you set a specific amperage for each channel?
No, but it will charge at a full 1 amp on all 4 banks, unlike the nitecores which do 750ma on 2, or 350ma on 3 or more. (And only if you stagger them, otherwise it'll only push 350ma)

If the luc is set to 2 amps, only the 2 center bays are usable...

I had a lucv4 but ended up having issues with the power input barrel connector because I was shuffling it between home, work, and the car. When I went to buy a replacement, everywhere locally was sold out, so I ended up with a Nitecore D4.

The D4 works fine, but its too slow for my needs sometimes, so I'll be grabbing a pair of lucv4's next week. Local b&m has em for $30, so why not, lol.

Now that this thread has been bumped, I'll give my input since it seems like a good thread. We sell Nitecore and Efest. We chose those two because in my opinion the Nitecore I2/I4 are the best budget chargers out there. They're cheap and work well. Downsides are they don't give you much info on what they're doing and they're really slow.

For people who want something more upscale, we recommend the Efest LUC line. This is what we use here. They're awesome chargers, with a full voltage readout and the ability to change the current from 0.5A to 1A or 2A per channel. The Nitecore only does 750mA per channel, and only has 2 channels. So for example on the i4 if you have 2 batteries charging they'll charge at 750mA but if you have 4 they'll charge at only 375mA. The Efest lets you choose and for many batteries 1A is great. Also another kinda cool feature is the efest can act as a portable power supply if you leave the batteries in it to charge things off of.

One other thing to keep in mind about chargers is that Nitecore is VERY heavily counterfeited. We've been going crazy recently after having bought a whole truckload of chargers and then doing our usual teardown found they were actually counterfeits. You never would have known it from the box or looking at the charger itself without pulling the circuit board out, and even then we were second guessing because they even went to the extents of branding the capacitors on the board with Nitecore branding, and branding the circuit board, etc. Ultimately we figured out they were definitely counterfeits though after talking to Nitecore engineers. Our stock right now is direct from Nitecore.

Luckily Efest doesn't seem to have that problem yet.

So anyway yeah, if you're on a budget go Nitecore (but be careful of counterfeits) or if you want the best IMO go with Efest. XTAR is another good high end one but we don't carry that since to us the Efest seemed a better value.

I have an Xtar VC2, and love it. Its very handy if you are without a DVM. Allegedly it will resurrect overly discharged cells also.
