Parallel vs Single coils

So I've been building coils for my subtank mini rba and I'm just curious about the pros, cons and/or differences between parallel, single, and/or dual coils. Been looking into getting an rda so I just want to learn more about coils before I go out and get one.

when you get an rda you find out what your juice really tastes like.

two coils will use more power (as a general rule of thumb). you may have to undergo a learning curve getting them to fire at the same time rather than one just before the other. having a couple of coils will mean you get more surface area for your juice to get vaped. i only run single coils these days at .4-ish. A dual coil will halve the resistance and will require more power from your mod. if you're using a regulated device make sure it's known to have a safe and reliable chip (and fire button/switch). If you find your vape too hot or won't fire as it's too low you can take out a coil.

pro, cons, and differences: it's a very long answer with a lot of variables.

For me as a rule of thump I build single wire dual coils for use on my IPV3 at around .25 ohms and 75-80w
But for my mechs I like dual parallel coils at about .12-.15 ohms that vape as good as well.
Good clouds and flavor with both, just depends on what device I'm using...

Parallel coils offer more coil to wick contact for better vaporization, but make sure to check the ohms before use, parallel coils tend to be lower ohms than single strand coils of the same number of wraps. For the Subtank, I wouldn't go below .3-.4 on the Ohms to ensure you don't melt your insulators.

I always check my ohms before I use a coil. When I decided to start building my rba coils I made sure to buy an ohm meter.

I haven't gotten into the mechs yet. Not quite confident enough with my knowledge of battery safety and what not. I've only been vaping for about 2 months.

Yeah, I was sorta the opposite.. I started off with mechs, learned about ohms law and how to build safely...then when the subtanks came out I got a couple VW box mods...glad to see you are using a ohm meter on you builds...

I currently have a subtank mini on an IStick 50w and I absolutely love it. But I change my mind like its my job so I constantly want something new and different. So I've been looking into rda's. I've quickly become a cloud chaser and I love building my own coils. But I can't imagine not using an ohm meter before using a built coil. Just seems like common sense. I'm just nervous about getting into mechs because I've heard some horror stories if you aren't safe and if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

Yes mechs can be hazardous to one's health, for sure!
But the new high powered box mods can blow clouds on a RDA alot safer than a mech...and can dial in that perfect vape..
I have the 150w IPV3 that is awesome for clouds/flavor...with shorted atomizer protection and a host of safety features, it vapes anything I put on it..but I vape my mechs too...lol

Stick with regulated mods. You can get a Sigelei 150W if you get into serious cloud chasing. That 50 iStick will power drippers down to .3 Ohms with enough power for clouds. As long as you are having fun and learning new vape skills, go for it!

As far as parallel coils go is there an advantage or disadvantage to twisted versus parallel.

I've tried both, but for me personally I prefer parallel...in fact I'm vaping dual 24g parallel 24g at 75w right now..
Clouds are thick and huge...I think parallel covers more cotton vs twisted too...but opinions may vary...

building on the rba deck for sub mini, id build (just my opinion) around 1-1.4 ohm single coil (standard wraps not touching) and run it around 22-25 watts & wick with very short fluffed tails coming out of the coil. wicking will make or break your sub mini build.

I run dual 22g at 1ohm each on a IPV mini2 at 29 watts. Works fine form nice little clouds and good flavor.

Yes. Discussion on wicking is a very overlooked point in forums and youtube reviews. But the way an rda/rta is wicked is more likely the reason most vapers get dry hits and a burnt taste and can't get that sweet vape at high wattage.

I total agree there are way too many videos on how to build could but far too few on how to wick your builds. It's been trail n error for me. I see videos of guys chucking clouds that have more cotton in their decks then a bottle of aspirin. I have found less is more with macro, micro and nano coils. Cotton wicks only seem to last 3 to 4 days when sub-ohming. If your going sub ohm and don't want to sacrifice taste I recommend a kanger sub tank or a freak show mini.

Yes, I agree using a subtank is a good vape ...that said I have the Arctic with the .2 ohm coil that is a great option to dripping...but I like my RDAs too so I do both...lol
This build in the pic is dual single wire 24g at .3 ohms ...they light up instantly at 70w as you can see on my IPV3...(sort've, lol) Organic cotton makes a good wick for me.....now if this was a build for use on my BFM mech I prefer parallel 24g dual coils coming in at around .12-.15 ohms, again using organic cotton...
Because I always have at least two mods setup I vape the Arctic with a different flavor
at about 60-65w that blows good clouds and I don't have to constantly re-drip, just refill...lol
