This is from the last time I saw R.E.M. live. Can't believe it's probably the last time I'll ever see them -

Let Me In - R.E.M.

MS dedicates this one to Kurt Cobain.

Going through a stack of CD's I just found buried in a dark corner. Think I put them there because I had trouble with playback.
So far most are O.K.

Johnson, Satriani, and Vai - G3 Live in Concert
Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage Disc 1
Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade
Thomas Dolby - 5 different cd's I'm starting with Aliens Ate My Buick

Probably haven't seen them in 5 years.

For the past few hours, since I looked at various Google images of "sparring" for the two word thread, I've had this stuck in my head -

Dukes Up - Modest Mouse

Rebel Rouser - Duane Eddy

Before I die, I am going to learn the sax part for this song - not "gonna learn to play the saxophone" (I'm not the most ambitious sort of girl), but I'll have this bit down pat.

I had to edit this out of the music game the other day, so I feel I wronged this little song. To assuage my guilt -

Polly - The Kinks

I named our Patagonian conure (RIP) Pretty Pollyanna Garter after this song.

PS - If you ever find yourself thinking about buying a parrot, or something, it's not too fun seeing a winged animal in a cage every day. But to each his own. I'll stick with dogs.

Yup. Decided to edit out a lot of blather about how much I love Elliott Smith. Oy. I definitely prefer the New Moon Pretty Mary K, prefer New Moon over Figure 8, in general. But now I'm listening to From A Basement On The Hill, so one from there -

A Fond Farewell - Elliott Smith

Your songs are a real kick, noejuice (scary username!),
but you can play as many as you wanna, so why'd you take down the one by Wanda Jackson? I've always liked that signature dirtiness in her voice.

A signature voice with just a touch of something in common with that special tone is Shirley's from Shirley & Lee. Here's their completely wonderful smash hit from '56, Let The Good Times Roll -

As often as I've heard it, still sounds so great.

I remember as a late teen stringing up my strat and a jazzmaster with the thickest strings I could find to try to get this sound. That and overdriving the evil twin reverb tubes. I didn't realize Dickie Dale was a lefty. Almost universally all left handed players are more talented and creative. DD said the best guitar would be a telephone pole with a massive cable running down it for a string. My lame pc speakers really don't do the trick. This shit is made to be cranked. This is the basis for groups like the Jesus and Mary Chain. Dick Dale is a superstar. Great post!

One thing I've noticed about guitar greats, is that they play a lot. It was said Jimmy Hendrix even took
a guitar with him to the bathroom (he'd be a vooper for sure today right ;)).

Every time I hear Tommy Emmanuel play I get mesmerized.
