And, you seem to crop up so much, its just delicious. Yet I do not mind it.:)

I've picked wild huckleberries, by the gallon.....you are not to be picked, though..
CaFF, You may be insane, but this is said so beautifully. We are very lucky to have someone like Huck here. Thank you for so eloquently expressing this.

Nah, Rocket. It means I chat a lot and need to wither on the vine and be something of a raisin, lol!

Very sweet, @CaFF. Thank you.

You, dear Huck, are not what Langston Hughes had in mind when he wrote "Dream Deferred." Good try.

No! You do not want this brain. My insanity tops CaFF, especially since his is probably more of a result of some delicious beverage.

Here, have this cat instead

From left to right - Tiger, Sophie, Spike. Maincoon mixes.
Tiger is the son of Sophie and Spike. Picture is from 2006, all three are over 10 years old now.

ziggy.JPG

A new rescue. One of a litter that was found by a coworker nearly starved to death before their eyes were open and nursed back to health. Another Maincoon mix, and he has extra toes.
Ziggy acts more like a dog then a cat. He has a stuffed animal that he will carry around and play with and he will eat nearly any food offered to him. Besides cheese and meat products, he will also eat peanut butter, mashed potatoes, spaghetti, french fries, rice, bread (with or without butter), crackers, potato chips, cooked carrots, cranberry sauce, pizza, soft candy, and he'll lick gravy off your plate after your done eating. He is the least picky cat I have ever seen. The other 3 cats will just sniff at the food then walk away most of the time, even with meats and cheeses. Luckily he has not yet figured out how to jump onto the kitchen counter.

A polydactyl! Very sweet.

Do you know what he is a mix of? The black on his side looks like the marbling effect on a marbled Bengald coat. It isn't uncommon for there to be mainecoon Bengal mixes. Also there is a breed called lynx and they are marbled at times and known to be polydactyl. Just saying what he may be part mixed with. Showing I am a complete cat nerd in the process no doubt.

They say cat people are weird, and I would have to agree. However, dog people, well at least people with small dogs are worse. When is the last time you put your cats in bikinis or in a kitty bag/stroller? I am willing to bet never. Walking a cat on a leash seems odd because you do not see it often, but bags, strollers, clothing and diapers lets get real here. Dog people are weird, cat people are merely eccentric.

We have one who let's us stack things on him. Mostly because he's disinterested in moving, at all (that's Biggie in the above photo). I have video of him getting kneaded by the one laying next to him, oblivious to the fact other cats would be having her hide for that action. He walks on a leash, he'd probably crawl into a stroller if I had one. He LOVES to go for a ride in a walmart reusable shopping bag. Especially if he's leashed and knows it means a trip to the gas station (he's weird - and we used to have a smoker in the house, now we go buy beef jerky and popcorn instead of smokes). If I had a Petsmart closer and didn't have to buy for mumblenumbermumble cats I would probably do more weird things to him, because he lets us. We have diapered in the past for heat-cycles that came on before we could get one spayed (she had to also have an eye removed and needed her overall health to improve before she could get spayed, it was 1 cycle, diapering her made her sleep all day and not want to walk, we gave up).

This is our newest rescue - Bruce. He's a solid black short hair, neutered male with a single white splotch on his chest. He's a former feral who was being tortured by other kitties in his colony. He was brought inside and vetted by friends of ours up in Indy, only to discover their bonded kitties wouldn't tolerate him either. So they got a hold of us. "Can you take him please?" They drove him down that night and brought litter for him. He's still settling in but he's in good hands now. Despite the high #s of kitties here, most tolerate him okay, some are still vocal about it but they'll get the hint he's not leaving, eventually. He was meant to end up with us I feel. He has a condition that's either congenital or the result of an injury, or in part due to his scrawny nature when he came to us. His left posterior kneecap likes to go for walks unattended - causing pain, and causing him to be a bit bitchy. He's in good company. Both cat-dad and I have the same condition. I know all-to-well the pain caused when those parts go where they shouldn't. He's got pain meds, but only if he needs them, and mostly he's doing better now that he's finally gaining weight. Bruce sort of picked me as his own when he came in. He likes to grab my arm when I pick him up, and grab me as I walk by his perch and chew on my hand and not let go. We're slowly teaching him how to play with toys, rather than body parts. And it seems to be working as I caught him playing with other kitties the other day without freaking anyone out.

His biggest nemesis seems to be Pocket the giant orange - who is incredibly bitchy/jealous of most anyone all the time since being spayed. I swear they took out the nice part of the cat when they spayed her.

On December 29th, I lost my 16 year old best friend Delia.

10360829_10206182556428764_1213238279180929596_n.jpg

Goodnight my angel. :'(

I freaked the fuck out. Lost my mind (what little there was left). Re-homed Phoenix (she was Delia's cat, never really "mine") and vowed I could never go thru that again so I'd be catless.

Well it all changed last week and I rescued two new kitty friends. I still miss the fuck outta my Delia, but I am honoring her life by helping two new girls.

Here's Tallulah:

And Geneva:

*hugs*

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, but I agree with you.
I'd be crushed if I lost Tiki, but I also know that it is inevitable. Cats just don't live as long as humans. I just try to enjoy and love her as much as I can, while I can and don't take her for granted. There couldn't be another Tiki, but somewhere, there is another kitty I could love too. :)

Meanwhile...it's warm today, so pulled back the window covering and let her have a good window-stalk. ;)

This is Bootsie, pulled her out of the bushes across the street from my house 5 years ago. She was 1lb9oz. When we took her to the vet the next day. She's now 17lbs. And she runs shit around here.

CAT LOVER COUPON CODE ALERT!

Y'all ever heard of KitNipBox? They're a subscription service that sends a box of toys & treats to your cat once a month. Pretty cool right?

It gets even cooler!

I noticed that they help out a lotta cat causes, so on a whim I asked them to help HART of Maine (the no-kill no-cage all-volunteer all-cats shelter where I got my kitty girls)--and they're totally doing it!!!

Just go over to www.kitnipbox.com, subscribe to an awesome fun box of stuff for your kitty cats, and when you're in checkout use the coupon code HARTOFME for 15% off your first box AND a portion of those proceeds will help all the sweet kitties at HART!

When I was looking into a kitty subscription box I really did my research, and KitNipBox has nothing but rave reviews. NO problems with unsubscribing or getting stuck with boxes of junk.

SPOIL THOSE KITTEHZ!!!

This is Brighteyes. She's the latest addition here at the rescue/house. Born feral, she's skittish of people because we're bigger than her. She's afraid of nothing in cat's clothing however, and tries very hard to love on everyone, even the grumpy ones. (Pocket & Bruce). She's aproximately 3 months old and was incredibly scrawny when we brought her in. She had parasites, which for once was an easy treatment. She did NOT have a kitty cold which was surprising given we've not had one come in without one. She's finally gaining weight and has learned to use the litterbox without issue. She's a big purr machine when you do get hold of her but mostly she likes to hide under the bed with the dustbunnies and the cats who also dwell under there. With time and patience we know she'll come around to being more affectionate. Given the cold winter and the 7 new cats eating at our feral table we're unsure who her parents are, but we're working with a group from Louisville to hopefully handle spay/neuters of all of the ferals that dine with us this spring. Even if it means my boss has to understand I need one Saturday a month to volunteer my time to make it happen. 1378558_10205901281155143_3698548380116937778_n.jpg
