Staging pre made coils

I have some great coils expertly made by one of our VU members (@debinnv). They are great coils that carry flavors nicely. The issue is that in my Vindicator with my preferred rta, Ijoy eXo they are kind of slow to get going. The flavor is amazing but it nessecitates a longer draw than I prefer to take (3-5 seconds long). I figure stagging the coils with a strand of 26 agw SS 316 L might be a quick and easy solution. What do you think? Advice and opinions are greatly appreciated. Peace and love to all in these terrible times. Stay safe and healthy.

The wire you use for staging needs to be roughly the same diameter as the wire in the coil. Otherwise the connection in the screws won't be as secure as it could be. Otherwise, I'd say try one and see. But...

I've made and used a bunch of staged coils in single-coil RDAs and RTAs, but never in dual-coil. Just be careful you don't end up with resistance so low that it causes you a problem on that mech. Obviously, dual staged coils are like running four non-staged, and that resistance could get pretty low.

I use staged coils a lot. Especially in single coil. If using for dual you may have to add an extra wrap before staging. The 26ss will make it low. I use 28x2/36 N80 6 wrap that ohm out around .2-.23.... But when staged with 26ss in dual came out to .08..way to low for my vape style and technically too low for my batteries.

28ss may be a better option but it will heat faster than the fused Claptons. Just have to make sure you have enough airflow to match the heat. But staged coils for the win

Like @nadalama said...id try to uses the same core gauge of the coil your staging or 1 near up or down(i go down, she lives it)lol
i beleive these were
2x28ni80/36ss316 staged with a 26. I vape low so liked it..

I usually use 26 for staging, but the Clapton wire I put with it is 26/32, single core, so there isn't much difference in the two wire sizes.

Well, I'm sorry they don't heat up fast enough. I never claimed to be a good coil builder. It's not my thing. You said you needed some, so I sent you some simple fused claptons. You know I struggle with my hands being what they are. Meh, they were free..............

Oh no there beautiful and thoroughly appreciated. I only mentioned you to share your blessing to the community. They are slow to go because of the voltage drop of my clone tube. I and presumably others are aware of the difficulty with your hands. I am troubled that you are offended. I am sorry if you got the impression I was ungreatfull. Please excuse me. I am sorry, truely.

Oh I wasn't trying to make that sound mean. I really am sorry they don't heat up fast enough. I thought I had used ni80 which usually makes them ramp up faster but honestly I don't remember now. I may have been out of that type of wire at the time. It's all good. I'm not upset. Just sad they are not working for you is all. Ya, re-reading that I guess that does sound a little crappy. Didn't mean for it to.

They are perfect for everything else. Two coils are exactly .2 ohms. It is just my set up. My rda is def not the best.

I think all the tube mods I have must be dogs, because I can't imagine running a dual-coil RDA on any of them for more than about 30 minutes. Once the battery loses even a little of its oomph, that damn ramp-up time starts to make me crazy. For that reason, a great majority of the coils I've built to run on mechs (both tubes and box squonkers) have been staged singles, and always either N80 or stainless.

To get a dual-coil RDA to run right for me on a mech tube, I'd have to make it with plain 26ga stainless or N80 wire. Any more wire mass than that would just be too sluggish.

I guess this is why folks who have the money spend tubs of it on better quality mechs.

With the right coils you can run dual claptons that ramp up fast on a single battery tube or squonk mech mod. That's pretty much all I run. I have some coils of my own design that noone I've seen makes.

Cool that you make coils. If I ever need any, I’ll ask you. I’m not using RDAs yet but you never know. Stranger things have happened. :teehee:

Easiest fix is probably to take a wrap out of each coil. Seriously doubt trying to stage them will work out. Of course without pics, everyone is guessing as a resistance number alone doesn’t mean anything.
