Ouch!!!!
Glad you're ok... and in going to third chanvapes.

Expensive lesson to learn. No doubt about it. Just glad it wasn't any worse.

Looking at your pictures, it looks like you pushed the button in your pocket, and it stayed pressed causing you to burn up your coils cotton and melt your drip tip.
The battery is most likely junk from over draining and over heating it. The RDA may be salvageable, just not the drip tip. The mod in the pics looks like it suffered very little harm. Although that switch assembly looks filthy.
Clean everything up, get a new drip tip, and put it on the shelf. Then go buy yourself a regulated mod that can be shut off when not in use. Better to be safe.

thanks guys. big question is can i still recover it, aka use it. after all this was a valentines day/brithday gift.
Could you?
If it takes a charge and fires, yes.

should you?
nope, totally not, don’t even. Not to be rude, but I would chalk it up to a learning experience and save it on the shelf as a memento.

Ditch the battery for sure. If you clean and inspect the rda and mech and everything checks out and the spring in the button didn’t collapse then there is zero reason to not use it. There’s no magic or invisible reason to think it’s somehow possessed by a demon if the parts aren’t damaged. It’s purely mechanical. If you can’t determine its serviceability with a close visual inspection, don’t use any mech.

It’s nice to hear someone recommend regulated mods. But prolly, a while down the road, I’ll suddenly realize I can handle mechs. And hopefully there’ll still be vape gear around to buy.

Sorry, yes I’m depressed. Lockdown has gotten to me. I’m broke as hell too, Chain. Stay safe and healthy, bro.

Mechs just demand a little more respect than a regulated mod. Respect and attention.

Cheer up Rhianne, we are all in this together! These are tough times for just about everyone.

I had thought after I made an oops, myself.
I sold all of my gear afterwords and a month later started buying stuff again. It just made my oops moment twice as expensive.

Dont do anything drastic, we all make mistakes. Just learn from it and do what is best for you. No one will judge, it all about taking care of yourself.

Let me be clear. A proper inspection requires a complete disassembly. Every single part, to include insulators, must be closely inspected. No damage means no reason to shelve.

i still smoke but only for respect and face only. U know when someone hands me a cigarette i smoke. Chances of me going back hardcore is slim. Me quitting vaping is sort of somewhere near of my smoke journey where I’m completely smoke free.
I’m still think if I should continue to my mod if nothing is wrong or get something else. If I do I’m not sure what I want. But I’m gonna be smoke free for a while just to see to calm myself down.

Also not that anyone care but my USB cable still works, iPhone and android works, not sure about the type-c but I think it should work too. But I’m gonna ditch it cuz cables cheap here, I don’t wanna get hurt or die from something that cost $2 lol.

I live in china and ppl hand u cigarettes all the time. Normally it’s rude to reject someone that hands u a cigarette, unless u completely don’t smoke. Normally if it’s friends I known for a long time, I normally take a pass on it. But if it’s ppl older then me or ppl I don’t really know that well, then I yeah for respect.

A while back I used to buy a pack of cigarette just to hand out to ppl. I didn’t even once touch that pack cuz it wasn’t really my kind.

First off, I want to thank you for posting this.
Some people are too embarrassed and/or afraid to be criticized for a mistake that anyone could easily make.

The reason this needs to be posted is so other people see it because it educates them on the possible dangers that come with vaping.

Also, I am very glad you didn't get hurt.

This is NO reason to quit vaping though.
You should stick with it but with a new device for carrying out with you.

Ask @f1r3b1rd about it.
he knows a thing or two about this.

I suggest you switch to a regulated mod immediately.

I'm not saying don't ever use a mechanical mod again.
Just be sure to keep the mech mods at home on the table or if you must carry them take the battery out and use a battery case.

If there must be a mod in your pocket that mod should be a regulated mod.

Will you smoke if you stop vaping?

This is the important question.
If the answer is yes then do ANYTHING to get a new device or fix that one if you must.

If this were me and it were my only mod I'd order a new one then use the one in the pics without the drip tip until the new one comes.
Anything but smoking.

Can you get "Snus" easily in China?
If so that would work while you wait for a new device.

Snus is a small pouch that holds tobacco.
You put it between your lip and cheek like dip but it's spitless and safer than dip.

There are actually many more high quality studies proving snus to be safer than smoking than there are for vaping.
There are 30+ years of studies on Snus especially from Sweeden where the lung cancer rate among men is the lowest in the world.

The Swedish Government told people that Snus was safer than smoking and what do you know?
Telling the truth saves lives.

lets be clear, im not vaping to quit smoking. if i was going to quit smoking, then i would stop vaping all together. i can quit anytime, but then how the fuck do i look cool out in public? hahahah such a fucking hipster lol.

also i been blowin a lot of smoke out of my cigs (i dont know if thats the proper term for it, but my dad always says that to fake smokers, especially kids lol), aka inhale in mouth then blowing it out. most ppl dont even know how to smoking properly and since im kinida just smoking cuz u hand it to me, i might as well fake it. (yeah its disrespectful and i should just rejected it anyways, but heck like u know differents lol)

maybes its cuz i have no shame and face. i tell me ppl that i shit my pants in public and im 31, my body just likes to fuck with me. always choose to fuck with me when there are no bathrooms and never fuck when im near one. so i dont really could this being a shame or an embrarrassment.

Oh yeah. I remember that. I didn't have any mechs yet at the time.

I've had a couple moments that didn't quite get to the oops stage, but would have quickly had I not caught them because of stories like Ruppy's and yours.

i never bought into the "MECHS ARE DANGEROUS!" mindset, but I did recognize that people could be dangerous with mechs.

After all of that, I still use mechs.

I'm with you dude, I cant stand the militant "mechs are dangerous argument"
Mechs are not dangerous.. uneducated people and carelessness is dangerous.

As much as I hate seeing the results of an "oops" moment, I always respect it when a veteran vapor comes forward and tells the story of their "oops" moment. It helps educate and reinforce things to look out for. Knowing you learned a little from mine, really warms my heart and shows me it was worth telling the story. Thank you.

I wouldn't say it's time to quit vaping. Just take the time to educate yourself before using a mechanical mod.

Start out with a regulated starter kit. A starter kit should come with everything you need (minus the juice and batteries). I would recommend an online store as the cheaper alternative. (Cheapvaping.deals and vape.deals are 2 sites that will give you the daily deals online).

If you have any questions, there are a lot of us here on VU with a wide range of knowledge.

I put my mech in my pocket all the time, just not in such particular ways that something like this might happen, and also not if the mech in question uses a fire button that can easily get pressed like that. So no cables the connector on which might crawl underneath the fire button or anything like that, and no protruding fire buttons nor any fire buttons that use a soft/medium spring... only flush or recessed ones, and only with a hard spring or powerful magnets, AND never before I have familiarized myself with, and have carefully inspected, the mechanics enough to be entirely sure that it simply will NOT do certain stuff inadvertently inside my pocket like that. A plastic 3 liters food storage deep freezer bag wrapped upside down around the mod after having completely cooled the coils down is what keeps specks of dust from entering my RDA from the fabric that my pocket is made of. And I twist the top part of the bag so after it crumples it acts as a cushion underneath the mod so that the weight of the mod doesn't wear out the bottom of my pocket.

JFC, glad you're okay.

Lesson learned though, I hope.

As a pretty knowledgeable vaping guy, I still use regulated mods after 4.5 years of vaping.

At home, I use a HexOhm but that's still not a mech. The rest of my mods are all regulated. I tried mechs and hated the building/learning curve when regulated mods do what they do for you. YMMV.

I can't tell you what regulated mods do or don't do for YOU, but, for ME, they:
  • eventually WILL break, whereas a decent mech typically doesn't, and,
  • are NOT inherently adding more safety when compared to a mech mod because it simply all depends how you use them, and,
  • add the potential to be LESS safe by creating a FALSE sense of security to those who use them so they are putting ME at risk when nearby, and,
  • typically look stylish only in the eyes of those who have no style (yes that's getting personal, but remember we're talking about ME here...), and,
  • are still lacking for the fact a mech mod adds more "punch", that some people describe as "a certain kind of directness", that when the voltage sags at the start of a pull it sags like in the example graph shown below, and that a regulated mod can not achieve.
sag.jpg

The bottom line is, YOUR miles may vary a tad (or two or three or four or five) more than MY miles. :D

But even someone like Gadget had a pretty big oops moment! I like regulated since I don’t have to be super vigilant all the time.

That being said, if I was faced with no vaping or vaping with mechs, I’d learn how to be really careful and use mechs.

I’m 31 not getting any younger.

Also vaping is popular, but with younger generations and they are all pod users.

There isn’t really a crazy amount of older folks vaping. Place I’m in Guangzhou China, vaping could be expensive compare to smoking sometimes.

U might not believe it but some ppl are pretty practical and they only smoke a brand or on a budget. If your smoking $2 a pack of cigarettes and a pod cartridge cost about $6. U do the simple math.

If he’s a one pack a day then yeah smoking is cheaper cuz he’s buying $2 cigarettes as compared to $6 cartridges. (Has to pay an extra $1 more)

But then again it’s about personal habits and will power. I know someone that’s a find vaping expensive and I also know ppl that have no will power to quit.

Smoking is a culture thing here, especially when ppl hand u a cigarettes. It’s quite normal, kinda pouring/refilling water for someone.

In NY cigs are $14 with all the tax. So vaping is great for that.

I guess it must suck being a vaper there if it’s only kids using pods! No wonder some guy from China who asked for advice here (a kid afaik) thought it was great when I told him to get an AIO.
He only used pods, I’m not gonna tell him to get something high powered. Lol

Stay safe, bro.

My two cents, and speaking only for myself, NEVER EVER EVER carry a tube mech or a battery in your pocket, because eventually you WILL forget something, and an accident WILL happen.

If you never do it, and you never build too low, and you never cut corners, and you always check the condition of the wraps on your batteries, and you always keep a mech clean, MAYBE no accident will happen.

I am just not that consistent in my habits. I get in a hurry sometimes, get scatterbrained sometimes, forget stuff, get distracted, am I the only one? Hell no I'm not.

Don't carry mechs or batteries in your pocket. And if you're female, or carry a man-bag, don't carry them in your bag either. Or a suitcase, or a laptop bag or a cosmetic case or an organizer wallet or....whatever.....

Mechs don't vent either. Only the batteries can, and that is regardless of whether you put them in a mech, a regulated, or one of those e-bikes that uses like $30 cheap shit from China for a Battery Management System... in fact some people on here are so butthurt it really does make you start to wonder if their e-bike batteries vented.
