Not new to vaping but...

Hello,

I'm not new to vaping, but it has been quite some time since I vaped. I've been a smoker most of my adult life and I'm now to the point I seriously want to quit. My plan is to use nicotine patches and vape zero nicotine juice to help with the "drag" habit (plus I like the taste).

My last vape unit was a eleaf istick with a kanger tank. The eleaf eventually died and I hated the tank because it was messy and leaked a lot.

Anyway, since I've been out of vaping for so long I've not kept up with the technology and all the various tanks and such that are available now. I've tried to do some reading and watch videos, but it's a bit overwhelming these days.

I think at this point I want an Aegis X mod (I like the size and the big screen, my old eyes don't see the small screens too well), but I have no idea what tank to get. I do have a few requirements and I'm hoping someone can make a recommendation.

1. I'm not looking to exhale Mount Vesuvius volumes of vape, I'm mostly interested in good flavor.
2. I don't want a tank that I have to run at high wattage, preferably 50 watts or less.
3. I want one with available prebuilt coils that are easy to change, I don't want to have to sit and build coils.
4. It must NOT leak!
5. I'd like a generous amount of liquid volume (5-6ml)
6. It must be easy to fill.

Any recommendations?

I use rebuildables and for example I run a .13 mesh at 30-32W, and a .21-.23 dual coil at 55-60W.
For 50W or less, check the assortment of resistances for the coils of a proposed tank. Coils already built are pretty cheap these days. A single coil RTA would be easy to do and easy to hit your desired vape within the wattage you want,,,but if you don't want that I understand.

Do you have married pairs of batteries for the X, and a charger?

I have a charger and batteries, got them from my son along with an older wismec reuleaux after my eleaf died, but I don't like it, too big, bulky, heavy and a tiny screen. I also have some older Steam Crave tank which sucks. It leaks and it's a PIA to build the coils. I really don't like the whole coil building thing. Just want one that has prebuilt coils available at a decent price that I can just stick in it and go.

My son has a Voopoo Drag (the original one) and he just put a Valyrian II tank on it. It vapes pretty well, but I think that tank is over kill for me. It takes a fair bit of wattage to run right, but other than that, I like everything else about it, it doesn't leak, easy to fill, the flavor seems good, but it does make some pretty hefty clouds, which I don't really care about. Something along the lines of that tank, but with coils that are suited for 35-45 watts would be good. I don't really have anything against running at 60-80 or more watts, or what have you, other than it just burns through juice faster (which also means big clouds). I tried his setup at his wattage (he runs at 105) and it choked me, lol. He turned it down to around 60, but it was just too cool and not a lot of flavor (that's a big coil in that tank).

Would like a brand/model of a tank that suits my needs/wants. Saying get an "RTA" doesn't help me :)

It depends on the coil he is using.
If he is using the 0.14 ohm one you may be able to use the 0.32 ohm coil in it at lower wattage.

Some sub ohms are compatible with coils from other makers. It will take a little digging to find out.
These would be worth a look:
.23 - .34 coils
https://vapenw.com/products/sense-screen-tank?variant=19099112964153

Has a .5Ω
https://vapordna.com/products/freemax-fireluke-2-mesh-sub-ohm-tank

Don’t know about this one, .4Ω and top AF so no leaking.
https://vapordna.com/products/freemax-fireluke-2-mesh-sub-ohm-tank

Not the highest capacity but easy to fill, and a plethora of coils fit it from 3 other manufacturers besides its own.

Thanks, had a look at those. I think the hellbeast looks to be a good choice. I like that it can change between mouth-to-lung and direct to lung just by changing the coils and also the air flow choices are nice. Yeah, liquid capacity is a little low, but I think I can live with that. Based on your list, I think I'll go with the hellbeast.

Did some more reading and the top air flow, eh...it says less flavor because you aren't drawing air across the whole coil. I'll try the hellbeast and see how it goes. If I find it doesn't work for me, then i can try something else later.

Thanks again!

Let us know how it works out.
And a pic of the set-up would be cool.
Here maybe, or anywhere :)

From a different perspective, I don't use tanks but @Vape Fan 's suggestions are right on the ball. I too would have chosen the Hellavape if given that as a suggestion. The other one I might try is the Freemax.

As I said I do not use tanks. If I decided to do that I'd give @Vape Fan 's suggestions priority and not simply because I consider them a friend. They know about vaping and keep proving that in the help they offer others.

If you don't want to make setups for a RTA (coils, wicking cotton,. ), you can consider to use a Sub Ohm Tank claromizer.
e. g. HorizonTech Falcon King or Freemax Fireluke 2.

I'm now using the Uforce 2 with a 0.40 ohm, I like to vape at 50 watts. But I'm going to move to the Fireluke 2 with a mesh of 0.50 ohm.

I have another question...my wife wants a vape too, but she doesn't like the bulkiness of say, a 2-battery mod, she prefers something like a stick. My only gripe with most of those that I see is the lack of adjustability. From what I've seen, many of them allow a couple voltage adjustments, with the exception of something like the ones that take an actual tank, or perhaps a "pod" system.

Is there a recommended "stick" type mod that isn't bulky, but still gives wattage adjustment and can use, say a small tank (she prefers mouth to lung type vaping). She's very picky about the size. I saw the Smok RPM80 Pro, and to me that seems like a good compromise in size and adjustability, but it is a pod system. Are there any inherent issues with those pod things? Do they leak? Leakiness is one of our main concerns as in the past when we had vape setups, they always leaked and made a mess. I'm trying to steer her to the Geekvape Aegis Solo (single 16850 battery) and she can use a Hellbeast tank like I am getting (then we can use the same coils to make it cheaper and easier). I like the idea of having the 18650 batteries, they are cheaper and easier to replace vs. a built-in battery that means you need a new mod when/if it ever dies.

Anyway, looking for recommendations for a slim, stick type set up for MTL with wattage adjustment and that doesn't leak!

Looking to order our setups soon (as in tonight or tomorrow)....

Get a Uwell Nunchaku or Nunchaku 2 tank (both can use same coils). They check off most of your boxes and the flavor is outstanding especially with the .2Ω mesh coils.

Hellbeast is okay. It uses a very popular style coil called Baby Beast styled coils. So you can try different tanks coils if you want. The Geekvape Cerberus that comes in many Geekvape kits uses this style of coils also. They've been good for a long time.

The Nunchaku tanks I mentioned have about 4 different coils. The wire coils are good but the mesh coils are terrific. The flavor is on another level, seriously. One of the top ranked tanks that uses Baby Beast styled coils is the Wotofo Flow Pro. There isn't really rankings but people gave that tank very high marks for flavor. The Nunchaku performs better than it. For my favourite liquids, the Nunchaku just outclasses all of my baby beast coil tanks when it comes to flavor.

She wants something small and for MTL.
Consider 2 devices or more, possibly 2 types - both MTL. A refillable pod or AIO for out and about becasue in purse, wallet, pocket,, - and a second mod + tank for at home/other times when a bit bigger while still being small is ok. I was never a fan of tube shaped mods (other than the Innokin SVD20 as my first device). You stand them up and their top heavy, lay them down and...does the tank leak? They just seem awkward to me. And they're not that small when you start putting them in a purse, I think :giggle:.
Here's a small pod w/adjustable wattage and big battery life for a built in battery pod. There are others.
https://www.myvaporstore.com/Bohr-Flask-Kit-p/boh-fla10.htm

So if you take away the convenience need of 1 device and think of it as a devices to use in certain situations, it opens up more choices for the one(s) that will get used the most.

I have that pod and a couple others that have been looking for a good home where they will be used.

There are so many single battery mods on the market, and MTL tanks. For a MTL vaper I'd go for a dedicated MTL tank.

If you ordered HellBeast, when will you get it?

Please try to use refillable pods, or "open pod" systems. "Closed pod" systems like say Juul for example are not "the way to go". Not only do you need to buy fresh new pods any time you run out of juice, you lack accountability of what you're vaping.

Do not vape oil/s based juices. Oil based juices bring with them higher risks to health & well being. This is also why you want open pods, so you know you're not getting oil based juice in them. At least there's less likelihood of that happening.

Closed pod systems precipitated the lung illness events the media used to further demonize vaping. You'll find here a lot of valid dislike of Juul. I for example think Juul needs to go UN-copulate itself. They are a scourge what needs put out of business.

The Tesla Nano 86W is a good unit, can be purchased just by itself to go with the tank you've chosen for her, for about $35. It's not to everyone's taste, though, with the "steampunk" design elements on it.

EHPro has one also, the Mod 101, which is just a plain stainless regulated tube mod, and then not quite a "stick" but a nice design nevertheless, is their new-ish 100W Cold Steel mod. Of these three suggestions, I imagine the Cold Steel will be easiest to find.

Lots of people around here have ordered the iJoy Katana recently too, and seem to really like them. Depending on taste, this one could be a very good alternative. I'd love to have a rainbow one myself!

I don't know the diameter of the Hellbeast, so didn't consider that. I think of these four, three of them would fit just about anything up to 25mm, but I'm not sure about the Mod 101.

ETA: Now that I think of it, I believe eLeaf has a Katana-like device out there now also. Called the "Rim" or something like that. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything eLeaf produced, if it fit the required function. Their mods are some of the most durable ones out there, ime.

ETA2: If I am not mistaken, that Hellbeast is the tank that can also use Nautilus MTL coils? Must have an adapter to switch between the two coil types.

Yes, the Hellbeast is a hybrid and can use 3 or 4 different type/brand coils. That appeals to me personally because I can see where I might want to go DTL sometimes or MTL others. The tank does come with the adapter for the Nautilus coils (it just doesn't come with any nautilus coils). The tank, according to specs is 24mm, so it will fit the Nanchaku and the other tube mods I've seen. I'm going for the Aegis X mod, so no issues there.

Wife wants MTL, but my thoughts on getting her a Hellbeast also is to simplify coil purchase/cost/useage. Who knows, she might even like to move to a restricted DTL too (she'll try it, I'm sure).

Right now she wants the original Nunchaku because it's smaller than the new version 2, and she doesn't like the "tilt it to adjust settings" feature it has. She absolutely wants a tube mod, she doesn't like any of the squarish mods. I even showed her the RPM80 Pro, which to me is plenty slim, etc, and the Aegis Solo...nope, she wants round, no squarish shapes, etc. And, it MUST be silver. I can't find the original Nunchaku mod only anywhere, only the kit, so I'm thinking I might use the kit tank as a DTL set up and the Hellbeast as an MTL setup for me. I don't know, I just know she's very picky about what she wants and she won't compromise on it.

I'm the one pushing the replaceable battery mod because if you get one with a built-in battery and it conks out, you have to toss it and get a whole new mod. batteries are relatively cheap compared to an entire mod. I had an eLeaf iStick 50 several years ago and it lasted about a year and a half and just stopped working, won't charge, won't turn on, tried googling it, etc, etc. So, had to toss it since I couldn't just replace the battery.

I also have to find a place that has everything we want in stock, I hate ordering stuff from multiple places since you can usually get a discount or free shipping over a certain price. That too has been difficult.

I've been researching issues with eliquid as well. I know there are some flavors that are worse for you than others, like cinammon, strawberry, banana, creams, vanilla, etc. She wants something as close to an actual cigarette she can get, but I like fruit flavors like lemon or watermelon (just straight flavor, none of that "lemon pie" or cookie, or multi-flavor mixes, etc).

Good luck getting everything at one place. You might get lucky, but most of the time for me, that's just impossible.

The Tesla and the EHPro I mentioned are both round, and both come in silver. The EHPro is just basically a plain metal tube with a small screen on it. It's going to be hard to find, though. And yes, the Nunchaku, but there again, you might have a hard time finding the original model.

Wismec has one called a Vicino, but I think it's just semi-regulated, and not adjustable as far as volts or watts, except by the coil you run on it. There are some built-in protections and five-click on and off, I think that's about it. Imo not a very attractive device, either, and doesn't get particularly good reviews.

I have an eLeaf iJust-S that is nice, and I think I paid about $12 for it, has a built-in 3000mAh battery and came with a pretty nice tank that will accept Atlantis-style coils (which can be found almost anywhere). For the price you'd pay for a replaceable-battery device, plus the battery, you could buy several of these - like four, if you can find them for close to what I paid. Built-in battery devices, true, you have to toss them if the battery dies, but buying a replaceable battery device doesn't guarantee that something else won't go wrong with it. In my experience the worst thing for a mod is having juice leaked into it. Then often your main board will die and that mod is never coming on again.

Just my two cents. Good luck with your search!

Hey guys, still have one more question (waiting to order...wife, at last minute has decided she doesn't like the nanchaku...says it's "too big"...sigh, so I'm back to waiting till she finds and decides what she wants)...anyway, I've decided I'm going to get new batteries in the order as well. I have three now, but I don't know the amperage or brand, they're green and just say 2500Mah on the side, and I don't know how old they are....they were given to me by my son a while back).

My question is, for the Aegis X, should I go with 20 amp or 30 amp batteries? I'm more concerned with safety than whether a charge lasts 4 hours or 6 hours in use. I realize that depends on wattage setting, etc, etc...I just want a good overhead margin on battery draw (I really don't want this thing blowing up on me).

Regulated device with built in safety features so amp really is not an issue. Just use good quality batteries from reputable vendor. Higher mah batteries will have a longer runtime.

Ok, finally!! Wife decided she wanted the Evod 2 kit, so ordered that (I have an old kanger EMOW sitting here that is basically the same thing, but it does leak, so she didn't want to mess with it). I hope she likes it, just got tired of trying to convince her to get an actual mod with better controls and replaceable battery.

Boy, finding a vape site that has everything you want is a royal PIA. Most were out of stock or had colors I didn't want. Color isn't a huge issue, but I'm not putting a rainbow or blue tank on a gray/camo mod. Places that had the mod and the tank I wanted either didn't have the tank color or mod color, or they don't have the coils for the tank. Good lord. So, ended up having to make orders from multiple sites, grrr.

I didn't go with the hellbeast tank because I couldn't find one in stock or they were in the wrong colors. I ended up ordering an Aspire Tigon in silver to put on top of a gunmetal/camo Aegis X. Better than bright blue or rainbow I guess. Ordered batteries from another place, found a place that had Samsung 2500Mah INR 25A batteries on sale for $3.99 each, so got four of them. MTL coils for the Tigon from yet another place and a couple bottles of juice from still another place (got a 60ml bottle of Orphan Blood and a 100ml bottle of Hedz Mellon head). Fortunately I was able to get either free shipping or some discount codes so overall shipping totals weren't as bad as they could have been.

Still, these places really need better inventory control, geesh, what a PIA.

Mod, tank and juice arrived today, one day ahead of schedule! Wife's Evod 2 kit arrived also. Batteries won't be here until tomorrow, so I went ahead and charged up two of those old batteries my son gave me to test the mod and they charged up ok.

First impressions of the Evod 2: Somewhat disappointed. Not much vapor, not much flavor, no air flow control (and the flow as it comes is quite tight and restricted) and no voltage control on the batteries that came with them. The old EMOW at least had air flow control and variable voltage battery. We'll see how the wife likes them in a few days. I personally don't like them.

The Aegis X mod and the Tigon tank: Love the mod and the tank seems pretty nice too. I went ahead and just filled her up and ran it in the DTL set up with the 0.4 ohm coil as that's how it came. Although I'll probably switch the coil and try the MTL setup, I'm thinking the DTL setup with the air flow cut to about 1/3 and the mod at 20 watts is about perfect really. Gives a sort of hybrid DTL/MTL draw....start like I'm going to go full DTL, then sort of finish the draw like an MTL. Made a huge difference in flavor...lots of good, strong flavor and a decent amount of vapor.

One thing is for sure, the Tigon tank, even in DTL set up and wide open air is not a cloud maker. It only has a single air intake (and also the other one with the small holes for MTL set up), and the coil isn't a huge mesh coil, but I think I'm going to be happy with it as I don't want huge clouds anyway.

The Hedz Melonhead juice is quite good. Nice and lemony tangy on the draw and then fades to a sweeter watermelony taste. Yummy. The Orphan Blood I've tried in my son's vape set up, so I already know I like it too.

Now, to finish off the half pack of cigs I have and start using my nic patches and vape and hopefully never touch another cigarette.

This is a lot of the reason behind why I use RDAs, now. I started with cig-a-likes, then Evod style tanks. The Wasp Nano is a good RDA as is the Gorge, would even suggest a Kennedy RDA. There all good RDAs. I also squonk but you can use any of these RDAs as squonk or dripping atomizers. You might also want to try a sub-Ohm tank.

Nah, absolutely don't want to have to do rebuilds, just want to pop in a pre-made coil and go. Besides, they're for the wife. I kinda had a feeling she wasn't going to be impressed, but we'll see. Went ahead and ordered them since they are cheap. If she doesn't like them, then we'll look at getting her a "proper" mod and tank....l tried to get her to go with the Nanchaku and a Tigon or Hellbeast tank.

I'm happy with my Aegis X and Tigon tank for me. Only complaint so far, and really it;s more a nit pick is I wish it had more juice capacity. Lol, just kickin back last night with it I went through 3/4 of a tank of juice.

I hear that. Got used to using a squonker which had a 10 ml bottle. I could get about 9.5 ml in it feasibly allowing for the tubing displacement. Currently using a squonker with a bottle that alleges roughly 6.25 ml capacity and uses a metal tube. I'm lucky to get about 5.75 ml into it. I normally go through around 4 ml a day so it is kind of being a bit annoying to need to refill more often.

Have your wife check out the Freemax twister. I love mine! It fits in my purse and my pockets. Has wattage control (up to 80watts) and comes with the fireluke 2 tank which is a great tank!
