Oh, ok, so you're not up for my planned pitchfork and torch attack then?

Well, ... in a short answer no.

A bit longer answer, I think you'll be attacking windmills first of all. Also, I have firm belief the works of fiction I cited hold a place albeit in the background of vaping society/culture. One other fictional work I might include in that is Stranger In A Strange land if you can grok that. I could also possibly include the works of Carlos Castanada, his Don Juan series but I'm a bit hesitant to do so. They seem to introduce a mystical element which just might cause seizures.

These works of fiction to me help enliven some virtues I feel our big world needs.
Hope, Courage, Ingenuity, Equanimity, Compassion all seem to prevail in these works and all I feel we need. This is my feeling, view, opinion of the matter but then I know my opinion holds little to no value. I don't normally hold it in value myself. This however is one of the rare cases where I think, "I'm on to something here".

And no I have not "been on something" for years. Yes, I use legally prescribed medicines as directed. No, I do not presently nor have I used anything illicit for years. I barely drink any alcohol too. Got a fifth of rum which is very likely to last me at least two years, possibly longer. Not that I'm a proud "goodie two shoes", rather I stay too broke to afford doing too much of anything once I deemed fun.

I'm telling ya. It never freakin fails. I think people have put their brains in the freezer and just navigate the world without 'em these days.

Ever have doubts? Look at how people drive. Try to enroll a kid in school. Try to work out a problem with your cable- or satellite-TV provider. Even better, watch a kid try to figure out how to give you change for a $10 if the cash register doesn't tell him how much to give. Honest to God.

You've got that exactly right. They're so stumped, they will often just give you back the amount you tell them to give. I've done that many times, just said, "you owe me 5 dollars and 50 cents," and they just hand it over. You could really mess them up if you had a mind to. Deer in the damn headlights.

I never pick on cashiers. For me they have one of the worst jobs in the world.
I would rather be a plumber, at least at that you do not have to be nice to the shit that comes by.

I don't pick on them either. I've had enough jobs in retail and food service that I wouldn't dare. The point is that some very basic understanding of how things work, basic math and such, have been effectively omitted from their experience. I guess you don't know what you don't know, but damn, do these kids have parents? If schools can't teach them how to think, then someone needs to.

I was a cashier for my first 5 working years. Worked at a grocery then a retail store. It is a crap job for sure. But I did it in a time when people were generally "nicer".
Counting change back is not rocket science. These millennials can't do it cause they were taught a different form of math. The Dept of Education finally has realized this and they are supposed to be going back to the way WE learned math. But it's gonna leave us with a huge gap of all those occupations that require intense math.

For maybe the majority of parents today schools are just babysitters.
I do not think the majority of parents take an active role in their childrens education.

Maybe kids would be better if life could be lived on a Nintendo?

That's why we home schooled our kids through high school. Both passed the math and English college entrance tests. They didn't need to take the remedial math and English classes most of the kids from the local high school needed to take. My youngest was a double major (Marketing and Graphic Design) and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.95 GPA. Yeah, I'm a proud dad!

My mom took a large active role in me being educated. Will leave it at that choosing brevity over verbosity. Suffice it to say I think I've "turned out" at least alright. :) Yes, even despite seemingly being unemployable.

My mother did essentially nothing to help with my education, beyond making sure I was fed, clothed, housed, and transported. She was not an educated person herself, but beyond that, had the patience of the anti-Job. I think Librium helped her get through the 1960s.

Not sure where I was going with that, except to say that sometimes it's just the luck of the draw. Some kids are motivated, some aren't. Some kids have way too much responsibility at home, inappropriate for their ages, and some don't lift a finger to do a damn thing.

Sometimes kids who come out of the same family, same parents, same upbringing, same opportunities, will turn out completely differently. And while I'm sure there are far too many parents who don't help their kids, I'm equally sure there are many who have to fight their kids, tooth and nail, to get them to do just the most basic things. Those are challenging kids, and you can work your ass off for them and get nowhere.

It's a crap shoot. And having said all that, I've pretty well convinced myself that, the next time I run into a kid who can't make change, I should remember my own experience as a parent, and not dump that shortcoming on the kid's parents without knowing anything else about them. They could well have given it their all, and gotten nowhere.

Learn something every day.

Me and youngest brother let's call him Fred, compared to my middle brother called Ralph can attest to that.

Fred might very so often sneak away from his daughter to use some herbal remedy. He will not let her know he does, although at her current age and being his daughter I'm sure she's caught on to something. She also though will not ask or push on her daddy because he absolutely is that, a daddy in every sense of the word. She never wants but what he doesn't give. She though is disciplined and being given a valued set of core values, integrity, honesty, doing right.

Ralph well, he's asshole to his two daughters and wife and uses the high test stuff they fuel drag race cars with if you follow along. He does nothing to mind his home, brings no money home despite working a damn good job. No, he lets Fred step up and be "daddy" for his house too.

The trouble is Fred quite factually has very bad medical issues relating to his spine. that's why he uses herbal remedy so infrequently. His doctors have all told him they can not offer him anything more than morphine for pain, as in he would need a tag along drip bag for it. anything else they can try does strange stuff to him, makes him sick, causes bad visions. He cannot use anything else really.

And seeing his older brother failing as he is takes a toll as well. He sees his father back again doing the same thing that was done to me, to his nieces. And he can't butt heads with Ralph, that would just make it worse. And I can do nothing either but keep Fred in my thoughts

And while I'm sure there are far too many parents who don't help their kids, I'm equally sure there are many who have to fight their kids, tooth and nail, to get them to do just the most basic things. Those are challenging kids, and you can work your ass off for them and get nowhere.

Yeah, Ralph is the one being the challenge out of three brothers. Me, mom's oldest, I simply scare her and she wishes I would have taken a career that would have stated I was dead. At the time I chose to tell my mom goodbye. I was told that was not allowed and the "offer" was revoked. "Sorry son, you just missed your opportunity to be a ghost."

I'm not a planner anyway. More of a doer. I'm the guy that rushes toward you yelling "follow me!" you might pause me to ask, "know where we're going?" I'll reply, "no but at least we'll get there quicker." And usually, I manage, muddle on through. I have to, life gives me no choice. So yeah, go unfuck yourself life!

I GONNA DIE!
I got a 10 pack of TIP 36C transistors from China and did not wear gloves or a mask to open them!

Do NOT die at VU. We cannot have you littering up the place. We'll just have to get someone to drag you outside.

Dang, you cannot take some people ANYWHERE.

I am going to be electron dissipated after I die and have my electrons spread throughout the internet.

Damn. You would! *ahem* Not that I wouldn't.

In seriousness though "they" say bleach does not kill that shit.(Got my doubts about what "they" say anymore. I know bleach kills H.I.V..) I'd suggest a wash in ammonia and Dawn instead, possibly some lemon juice. I know ammonia will attack enzymes and Dawn washes oil off critters. Lemon juice? Nice smell, citric acid will help lift anything away plus oxidize.

Bossman wanted to put a thing called 5S into action, a think that minimizes clutter at a work station, while promoting maximum efficency. So, one of the items that got removed from one area was calculators. Thing is, every single computer in the facility has a calculator built in, right? Everyone on one shift started whining that they didn't know how to use them. Some don't even know how to get there.

I’m surprised about the bleach. Harm reduction places in the City were handing out bleach kits with new syringes to addicts. I figured it killed everything!

We have had 5S for years. Some bosses are more gung ho than others. One is VERY into it. He has his desk taped off and labeled for EVERYTHING. He was having a fit because the other boss in that office kept putting his lunch cooler on his desk. We fixed it for him by taping off an area for the cooler and labeling it for the other boss's lunch cooler. :p

I love that. Our Assoc. Manager is nuts about the idea, while it's causing a rift between shifts. We're supposed to be having yet another meeting about this crap. People just put your shit where it belongs, is it that hard? I'm tired of going to meetings, I have work to do LOL.
