new builder

Hi guys,

I recently got the Coilart Mage v2 rta despite not being recommended for new builders. I did 2 builds so far, both of them giving me issues.

First issue is that the tank is leaking but only after refill and is stops after a couple of minutes.leaks about half a ml.

The other issue is that after on draw, the resistance reading shows 9.99 and "check atomizer" if I try to draw again. The reading goes back to normal after 5-10 seconds and I can draw once or twice more until I get 9.99 reading again.

Also, on "cold", the resistance reading is unstable. It goes form 0.20 to .35.
I used prebuilt fused claptons from Colology, 3mm-0.34 ohms, 26/36, Ni80.

The rta is postless and has honeycomb style deck.

I had to twist the legs of the coils to be able to screw them in place because the of the way the deck is built on this rta. I mean, I did the build exactly as youtube reviewers did it in their videos for this rta.

Maybe it's helpful to add that when I fixed the hot spots of the coils, the resistance readings were stable and I could push the fire button multiple times to heat the coils with no issues.

I'm not familiar with the mage. Maybe try checking the 510 center pin on the underside, most have a slot on them for a screwdriver. Make sure it's snug so your resistance doesn't jump around. Not sure what mod you're using, wondering if it's an issue with the rta itself causing the check atomizer or an issue with the mod's 510.

As for leaking with refilling, try closing the airflow before you open the fill cap and fill it. Fill it up, cap it, turn it upside down and open the airflow. If it still tries to leak or seep, with the tank off the mod open the airflow. Give it a quick firm blow into the drip tip with a paper towel or something wrapped around the atomizer and wipe up any excess juice. Some rta's do that when first filling but usually not a full ml or more.

Are you trying to run a single coil or dual coils in it? You may not have enough cotton in the wick slots and that could be causing the leaks. If the cotton is already snug in the coils and say you're running 2.5mm inner diameter coils see if you can fit 3mm id coils in there. You don't want the cotton so tight in the coils that it chokes off the wicking of the juice, then you'll get dry hits. Increasing the coil size will allow you to bulk up the amount of cotton on the tails of the wicks if needed to fill the wicking ports. Should cut down on the leaking. Kind of sucks but that's the nature of these more modern rta's, they suddenly feel like juice flow control is no longer necessary. So when you open the tank to fill it breaks the vacuum and then your juice is just wicking up and out. My manta rta is the same way as are most of them now. After the initial dribble of juice when filling it stops leaking. I just give it a quick puff back through the tank and wipe it off.

Leaking: Looking at an image I see a possible suggestion.

You might want to tear the atty down, apply just a small bit of juice to the o-ring on the base prior to building it up. Sometimes that helps give a better seal to the glass. That's the only small bit of advice I could add. @Synphul seems to have tagged the rest.

For the high ohm reading make sure the screws are tight on your coil/s in the posts. 9.999 indicates a loose connection.

Nice. We've a 1 to 4 ratio going on and even explicit and intimate 1 to 1 help. Both are done with pure grace. You'll not find that in/on very many discussion boards/forums/mailing lists.

:vu: Rocks!

The reason an RTA stops leaking by itself like that is because the reservoir needs to build up enough underpressure to be able to hold juice in... underpressure in the air that sits at the top in the reservoir, that is. So if you overfill it and/or you don't vape on it at least a couple times right after filling/refilling... well, you know what I mean.

Could also be the 510 pin that's gotten just a tiny little bit loose, as that can happen when an atomizer gets screwed/unscrewed onto a mod with a spring loaded 510 connector. But care has to be taken to not overtighten any screws, as the PEEK insulator between the 510 of the build deck might crack, and, as for the screws in the post holes, they too might cause problems if you overtighten them because the legs of the coils might, depending on the properties of the coils, get squashed relatively easily (or the threading on the post screws might strip).
