I'm just tickled pink to be cooking a big dinner for my hubby and me today, Turkey Day 2019 in the USA.

Coconut pies out to cool, turkey in the oven and the house is smelling good, a couple of casseroles already put together and waiting in the fridge, limas and corn simmering, yeast rolls rising...

so I thought it might be a good day to get all of you talking about what you're cooking...

So what's in the oven? What's coming up? Let's hear all yer special holiday and Turkey Day and regular day noshes!

I'm having a very simple Thanksgiving dinner today. It's one of the few days I cook. Usually DH cooks (he was a chef before he got injured and sick) but for Thanksgiving I cook for the two of us.
We're having oven roasted turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy and fresh baked focaccia bread (I was a baker/pastry chef before I became disabled) No dessert because we're both diabetic and I didn't feel like messing with sugar free anything.
Hope everyone gets a good meal today!

@MrMeowgi why does Santa have no nose? o_O

You guys got me beat. On a budget and only got my son coming down so I got a ham in the oven simmering in a marinade of brown sugar, cloves, and pineapple and cherry juice. Eventually will put some pineapples chucks and cherries on it near the end of the bake. Then homemade mash potatoes and gravy. I wanted to make deviled eggs but got lazy and didn't want to go out to get more eggs.... So instead I made stuffing and baked a Sara Lee's Pumpkin Pie from the freezer. All is done other than the ham.

Hard to beat good ham. The leftovers are spectacular, don't last long around here. I can't stay out of 'em! I love ham out of the fridge, cold, just meat in a piece of bread. Yummy! Even better in the middle of the night!

Exactly.... I was expecting leftovers and I would rather be snacking on ham over turkey. Great thing about the glaze I make is it really works well with mustard when making sandwiches later. Hopefully the food will last me through tomorrow. That way I can enjoy football tonight and not have a care in the world tomorrow. Maybe then I will be willing to motivate to cook again... lol

This is truely special Thanksgiving. Enjoying a traditional meal with lovely wife of 23 yrs. I did a mass text to invite but very few answered back and very few folks expected to show. Honestly do not mind. So usually I would go outside the culinary box but decided to keep it traditional. Brine cured turkey, garlic mash, roasred sweet potatoes, green peas and onions, green bean caserole, cranberry and orange chutney, fresh yeast rolls. Also crackers and cheese, hummus and pita for apps. Enjoy your day and happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Rick, so happy to hear that you and the missus had a special day together. As it has been this year with us, sometimes it is special when it's just the two of you. Shared experience, struggles included, make a family. My best wishes and prayers to the both of you.

I never cook, but someone in my loving family does for me :) Also 3/4 years ago I had a buddy at work smoke a bird for me. Never been a big fan of turkey, but this stuff was fantastic! He charges me $30, I would gladly pay $100 for making my whole family happy (don't tell him I said that ;)). Every year staples include corn flake swiss cheese green bean casserole, candied yams, home made stuffing, and way too much bread....... Stuffed now and watching my boys, WHO DAT!!!!

Went to Mom's. Normally my brother cooks but he went to his SIL's this year.
Turkey, ham, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, veggies, spinach dip, rolls+butter... for dessert pumpkin pie, egg custard pie, pistachio fluff, cookies.

Oh, and we were blessed with the company of my 2 nieces and a boyfriend. Even though Dad was out of town. :)

Onion Pie? Tell me more...

It is an Italian Specialty if you want I can write up the recipe. Basically you saute the Onions with with a little Olive Oil and Garlic then smash Peeled Plum Tomatoes with your hands and add some fresh Basil. Get some Pizza dough and roll it out thin top the Onions with Pecorino Romano Cheese and put the top on to bake for about 45 minutes or until done to your liking.

Ever since I figured out the recipe my Grandmother used to make years ago I have to make it for the Holidays. Got together with my Sweeties Mom (RIP) and we figured it out together. Over the years I have perfected it. I also put some sliced Black Olives in it because her Mother used to do it.
It looks and sounds delicious, if I could some of that stuff I would be begging you for the recipe my friend

Okay, a friend of mine in Alaska who manages a store that sells something that is legal up there but that we aren't supposed to discuss on VU had a classic boner today after obviously imbibing in too much of his own product:

His GF asked him to frost the cake, and he ended up frosting the corn bread :giggle::giggle::giggle:
