What a gong show!

So here's the back story, I have a good reputation on here and also had a good one over on ECF. I have piff'd many items here, always make quick payments....bought a mod from @DonBaldy yesterday and he had payment right away. My word is extremely important to me.

I bought an RDA from @516_vaper_li last Sunday and sent him money through PayPal right away. When he shipped to me on Monday he said that he hadn't received the funds yet because it was pending, but he wasn't worried because it said he'd have the funds by Thursday. My immediate thought was WTF I've never had a payment not go to someone right away so I went onto PayPal and realized that instead of choosing my credit card to send funds I had selected my bank account to transfer the funds, still don't see how this makes a difference because there's plenty of money in the account. Either way this was my oversight and a mistake I'll never make again, I felt really bad.

I logged into my bank account on Thursday to make sure I saw a PayPal transaction for him and noticed the money was taken from my account on the Tuesday so I figured great, no issues.

Imagine my surprise when I get and email this morning saying that he still hasn't received the funds. I call PayPal the moment they open and they tell me they're waiting on funds from the bank. I reply that the money has already been taken from my account last Tuesday as proven here - the $71 transaction

They tell me I have to contact my financial institution to find out why PayPal hasn't received the funds. I call the bank immediately, they tell me no, PayPal went into your account last week and took the funds, they have the money at this point.

I already feel like a POS for this guy waiting 7 days so I log into PayPal and pay him again directly from my credit card like I meant to the first time and told the bank to cancel the original transaction and get my money back. All I care about is getting him his money.

It's frustrating that PayPal would tell me to contact the bank when they already have the money!

Huge apology to @516_vaper_li, as soon as you notified me today I was all over it and even made a second payment to make things right.

I can completely understand your situation. Had a similar thing happen to me about 2 years ago.
Over on ECF I have 240 plus feedback there.

I wonder why a direct withdrawal was such a problem? That's the method PP seems to prefer and, unless it's a large-ish sum, the source I nearly always use. It always goes through lickety-split.

Right? I'm really not happy with PP today.

Man this blows for both of you. I hope the second payment went through. While it's admirable that you take the responsibility on yourself for what seems a pissing contest between your bank and PP it seems that you've made the good faith effort to make the payment and even went out of the way to try and get it corrected.

Thanks and yes, he received the second payment immediately.

That's good. I hope he'll be satisfied. I know I can be a bit too trusting, but I believe that 99.8% of the people here are good and mostly honest.
I agree. He emailed me after the second payment and seemed satisfied, said he understands PayPal screws up sometimes. I was able to show him everything I said was true as far as money coming out of my account, etc. Honesty is important and I would never screw anyone on a transaction. I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to say anything negative on here, but I made the thread to be transparent and hopefully educate that PayPal isn't perfect.

IT seems that for most of us our overall reputations are worth more than a few bucks.

I can't stand that PayPal "echeck" bullshit.

I had something similar to this happen on eBay.

Someone bought a few items then paid for them so I wrapped them up and shipped them.

I hadn't noticed that shipping didn't automatically combine right away when he paid me but I did notice a couple days later.

The buyer ended up overpaying by $4 so I sent a refund of $4.

I sent the buyer a message about how shipping didn't combine, he had overpaid, and the refund was on it's way.

Between the time the guy paid me and I had noticed he overpaid my PayPal account balance had went to zero which should be no problem because it's directly linked to my bank account. but instead of a regular payment PayPal considered it a "partial refund" and sent an echeck that took a week to clear.

So not only do I get to feel like a asshole for overcharging the guy but then I get to feel like even more of an asshole when I make him wait a week to get his $4 back.

Yeah, it is bullshit. They've had my money since last Tues and can't release it to the recipient in less than a week?

Good of you for refunding the overpayment

I had a similar thing happen on a big mod order form the manufacturer. I tried using balance but it forced that echeck crap due to the amount. 14 days later, Paypal is going down the drain due to their alliance with Synchrony.

14 days.....I would've been losing my mind. Correct me if I'm wrong, but PP is our only option on here when making sales and purchases right?

More or less. Venmo exists as does crypto currency. Crypto will be the future but it needs a wider spread adoption.

What’s Synchrony, btw?

The bank. Same that Amazon uses and equally as bad as ABC financial (the bank used for all Gym leases).

You did everything right. I understand feeling panicked about that. Banks are really screwy.

Always better to use a DEBIT CARD, if possible, bc it comes out the fastest.. and shows on your balance the fastest too..like you had meant to do.
Good looking out!

Agreed.. I opened another account with my bank for "online only shopping" every week I have funds automatically sent to that account.. PayPal is also connected to that account but I avoid using PayPal as a form of payment whenever possible

Whatever happened to this one @Theboss. I actually did the same damn thing this morning to crazychef and just realized it. Wondering what they said when he would receive the first payment that was sent from the bank instead of the card. Ugghh I can't believe I did that.

PayPal said it could have taken 7-14 days for 516 to get his payment, which is funny since PayPal took the funds from my account the day after I made the payment from my bank. At the time it had already been a week so I just made a second payment to 516 from my card and waited for the bank to get the original one back from Paypal.

I know how you feel man, I didn't know choosing my bank would be any different than my card, especially when they take the payment within 24 hrs, no fucking idea why they hold on to the money for so long.

Its not always PayPal holding the Money,, sometimes its its banks not releasing it,,, although it will appear near instant in your account... Its called floating,, they can use all kinds of excuses,,, high fraud timeframe (like the holidays). Unknown/unestablished PayPal receiver ( like me).. bank may be scalping the bond markets with those funds,, gotta wait until they roll the profits back to home bank,,, worst,. And I do mean very worst- run on banks-( most cases this isn't a huge risk)+(the banks aren't required to carry much actual cash on hand to represent your account). Part of the reason crypto money became so popular
