Traveling to Queensland, Australia with nicotine juice

Hello. I am traveling to Brisbane, Australia next week. I would like, indeed need to bring about 300 ml, of nicotine juice. After 7 years of vaping, I don’t want to return to smoking for 2 weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might bring what I need. I am coming from the US.

Thank you.

Just follow your airline guidelines on general liquids. Usually decant into 100ml or smaller bottles. And there is an upper limit how much.

Nicotine is illegal here in Australia. So make sure you bring enough + some extra. We all have to import to get our nic.

Customs will be fine, you can tell them it is vape liquid with nic. Difficult to explain how it is illegal, but OK through customs. But it boils down to state vs fed agencies.

So the fact that I am flying into Brisbane (Queensland) where even possessing nicotine is illegal won't be an issue for the custom's agents IN Brisbane. If you're right, that takes an enormous weight off my mind. Just be truthful and tell them what it is? I was going to hide it in travel shampoo bottles off Amazon but it would be nice not to have to be a smuggler.

Oh and what about the legal requirement that I have a "prescription"? I have called 3 American doctors today and the answer was universally "no", probably because you can't even really write prescriptions for it here. It isn't a medical substance. Thanks for all your help.

Yeah. It is illegal under state law in every state. But customs is federal, so they let it through no worries

I don't have a prescription. No one who I know does.

Ive got to ask.... Are you in Queensland (Brisbane or Gold Coast area?) because you are, you have ended a crappy day on a brighter note. If you're correct, I owe you a beer or beverage of your choice. LOL And have you ever done what I'm talking about? Bringing nicotine juice through Brisbane airport?

I am further south.

I have't personally, but know people who have.

I can't think what other aussies are on VU to help put your mind at ease, other than @laurie9300

I'm sorry.. last question... I have been in a foul mood trying to negotiate Australian law for more than 12 hours. Do you think it will make any difference that I make my own juice? It's less than 1/10th the cost of buying it here in the states. Think I should just bite the bullet and buy some commercial juice? Frankly my own is safer but if customs is going to freak out, I'll spend $100 on the store bought stuff. I can't thank you enough for your help.

I don't know the answer to that one, sorry

No need to say sorry. You've been more help than you realize. I really was upset for being so stupid to not look up the details less than a week before leaving for Australia. Had I known Queensland was so difficult (and Australia in general) I might have planned my vacation elsewhere. But my wife and I have been incredibly EXCITED for more than 7 months. So I thank you. I won't ask you to respond again, but if you don't happen to be in Queensland, if you could let me know at your convenience, I would appreciate it. I won't ask you for any more of your time unless you want to. It is almost the middle of the night here in Houston. :)

I'm in Melbourne.

Did you pay extra for direct to QLD? Most flights from USA go to Sydney or Melbourne I think.

Actually, no. Not o my knowledge. My wife and I are flying Air New Zealand. We pass over Australia and land in Auckland. Then have a 4 hour layover and go back to Brisbane. The irony is that we chose those 2 cities for rather silly reasons. First, for years, one of my favorite radio stations happened to be out Brisbane so I kind of got a feeling for the city. Also my wife Bettina absolutely ADORES the beach (I don't) and Brisbane appears to be about an hour from the Gold Coast. So we split the first part of the trip in Brisbane for me and the second half at the Gold Coast for her. Had I known about Queensland's draconian vaping laws, I would have done what every other tourist does and go to Sydney. But she and I like to explore areas off the "beaten path". And when you're a tourist from America (though I am actually a Canadian!), our trip seemed to fit the bill.

Someone somewhere else suggested I order some travel cosmetic and shampoo bottles from Amazon and bring some in that way. I don't have much time, but I am considering it. However, that sounds dangerously close to smuggling to me, and the last think I want is to wind up in an Australian jail. Though.. when they run the bottles through the x-ray machine, how could they tell? Just thinking out loud....

Ah. From NZ makes sense. Brisbane don't do too many long haul types.

QLD is actually a really nice place, with relaxed people. They just have dud laws.

My plan as of now is to partially follow your advice. I am going to buy a bottle of 0 nic juice here in the States with me. I am going to pack that and 3 bottles of my DIY along with it. I haven't decided yet whether I'll tell them it's only 3 mg or not. I might. I don't like to lie. If they take it fine. I have another 10 50 ml bottles that I am going to put in some travel shampoo and liquid containers I can get on Amazon. I will fill one with shampoo (hate hotel shampoo anyway), one with body wash, one with my wife's facial cream, and the other two with the remainder of my juice. If they take the 3 bottles I admit to a customs, then with luck I will still have the ones in the bottles. Unless of course someone from customs see this message and I lose them all. Hell, it shouldn't be this complicated!

Sounds good. Chances are that they will barely glance at any of them. But being covered with a backup is always good.

My wife and I are really excited about our trip. We've been saving like crazy since January. I know Australia isn't a big deal for you since you live there but for us it's a big adventure! I watch quite a bit of Australian TV (mostly channel 7, 9, and 10 in their various incarnations) so I already have a bit of feel for the place, but nothing beats going there. My wife is particularly excited about the beaches at the Gold Coast. I hope they are as nice as they appear in the pictures. Me, I'm not much of a beach person, so I'll be camping out with my Kindle and Gameboy. However, she does tell me there are a number of nature preserves, etc. in that area. Should be fun! It'll be really nice to get out of America for awhile, even if it is only for 2 weeks!

Since you already have the person who I respect most about Ausie Regulations commenting, I can only add you can put the e-Liquid into unmarked bottles and just tell them it is Skin Softener or Baby Oil if questioned in Customs. My GF brings my DIY e-Liquid I make for her on flights and was never questioned on it. Just my 2 Bits.

Thank you for your response. I have already placed what should be enough juice in bottles designed for air travel and put innocuous labels on them. I am also bringing 4 50ml bottles out in plain sight to see if I am allowed through. Must admit that both my wife and I are a little apprehensive. We’ve worked hard for this trip and would hate to see it ruined over vaping, Hopefully that won’t be the case. We leave Friday night Houston time. Wish us luck!

Yup. I only use 3 mg anyway. If I am forced to go nicotine free or face a huge fine, of course I’ll do without. It just isn’t my first choice.

It also wouldn't be mine but with my being at 3MG myself and a rabid chain vaper it is easy to go without vaping when I can't. Far cry from when I was a smoker~!

I am now safely here in Brisbane. It turned out I worried a whole lot about nothing. Customs didn't even to bother to open my carry on or check it. Now I . have more juice than I know what to do with. I have 150 m of by DIY stuff that I thought I would see if I could get through. Then I have another 200 ml of stuff I bought at the store. And then finally I have 200 ml of nicotine juice that I brought just in case. I should have more than enough to get me through my holiday. It would appear the scary stuff on the news isn't the reality. At least not for me. Cheers!
