Metal tanks for RTAs instead of glass - What is your experience?

Anyone use a metal tank in an RTA instead of the glass?

Am doing it now with a Kayfun5 I recently traded for - and of course am the experiencing the obvious problem of "How the heck do you tell when it needs refilling before getting a dry hit?"

As a mainly mechanical squonker, personal experience is pretty limited to just a handful of RTAs, and those have been used mainly when reading in bed before sleep

It seems that metal tanks are a great hedge against breakage, especially if the FDA deeming crap makes replacing glass in RTAs a headache, or the maker just stops putting replacement glass on the market

Same as you, which is why I only ever tried the metal cap once. Drove me nuts not have a window to check the juice level. If I get a tank that I enjoy, I order a bunch of glass ASAP, for fear I won't be able to find it later.

That is definitely a tactic used in the past; plus, a lot of RTAs don't come with a metal replacement tank

However, the clutter in a vapocolypse stash for a dozen or more replacement glass sleeves per RTA is crazy after a few years, LMAO

Have broken 1 glass in 4 years. Have ~20 spares so good for a while.
Do not own any all metal RTA's.

I break glass in a tank a few times a year

Well, once upon a time I had a Vandy Vape Berserker Mini RTA. It had a metal tank in addition to the glass tanks it came with. It looked awesome on there, I must admit! But paranoia set in on that little 2ml capacity tank, and it seemed like every 2 minutes I was getting up to top it off, since I couldn't actually monitor the juice level in real time. Theoretically, once the zombie apocalypse takes it's full grip on our world, I could use Stainless Steel sheet metal to fabricate tank replacements, that would be a sacrifice I would be willing to make. But, until then, glass or acrylic is my go-to. Lol

Not seeing the juice level is a deal breaker for me.
That said, I've been using Subtanks since they came out (carto tanks before that) and have yet to break the glass on one. I've dropped them plenty of times over the years. Maybe it's due to the metal cage inside but I'm confident they'll outlive me.
Then again I'm also confident that no matter what happens here, we'll always be able to get things from countries that aren't stupid about vaping.

I’ve used am using when I use my Kayfun v5 clone the metal tank. I tried it for fun. And it’s fine. You get a sense when your ejuice is low & I refill. No issues at all.

Or if you use Temp Control it would be a non-issue too. I don’t but it’s an option.

Might look into something similar to the squid peacekeeper rta , caged acrylic. Could look into the expromizer v4 or hussar x rtas as well.

Kanger Subtanks?
Same here dropped mine many time, only broke 1 glass though.
That was about a 3 ft drop on gravel.
Broke several drip tips off though. Don't use the OG metal DT's. Hard on teeth when vaping while mowing :)

That's funny, because in all my years of vaping, I've only broken one DT, but lots and lots of glass

It's nice having the option for the kfv5. At first I was a bit concerned about not seeing the juice level but like anything else, rda's or whatever. You can taste when it's getting dry. You just don't get the early warning like you do from seeing a 1/4 or 1/8" of juice in the bottom. I've broken a few glass over the years, I think maybe 3? One bubble glass for my manta rta, just kinda fell apart more than broke while taking it apart to clean it. Probably defective glass. It didn't pop or snap or anything. just kind of fell away in a couple pieces in my hand. Had one stretch over the period of a week that I guess I was just butterfingers and dropped the tank to my ammit twice taking it off the mod and dropping it on shit like the edge of a coffee mug.

If someone is that concerned, could always stock up. They're pretty cheap. Aliexpress has the replacement glass for the v5 for $3.86 + $2.76 shipping for a 5 pack. 10% discount when buying 2 or more lots. Could buy 5 packs for a total of 25 glass replacements for under $22. Should last awhile.

Here's a link the glass I found. I think yuhetec is the same brand of replacement glass I got for the manta rta, works pretty well and fits good.

Yep I use the STM and OG Merlin tanks and have stocked up on replacement glass for both.

Also have about 40-50 replacement bottles for my Pico Squeeze. And have only gone thru 2 I think in well over a year.
They eventually crack somewhere and ooze juice.

Yep the Kanger Subtanks. I've become so confident in them I recently sold all but 2 and only kept 1 replacement glass. I think Kanger's Protank 4 is even tougher as it's mostly surrounded in SS with just 2 windows. That's become my beater tank but mostly because it's easier to refill on the go.

I have 10 STM's I think. about 20 replacement glass sets and a dozen replacement RBA decks along with several gasket sets and a couple of bases too.
Been thinking of retiring my OG Merlins and just using STM's for my tanks.

I have no use for the STM's with factory coils but nice with the RBA deck.

I still have and use a VV Berserker Mini with its metal tank. I really like the metal. It's MTL and doesn't go through juice very fast, and in my case it's in rotation with a couple dozen other devices (just like everyone else here lol), so every few days I just top it off. Even if I didn't do that, as other members have said, most of us are experienced enough to tell when the vape is getting a little dry, without going all the way to hot demon burnt metal and cotton Hell.

The KF 4 I had that I chucked across the room in a fit of fury (and it went up under something and I have no idea where it is) had a beautiful metal tank and I would have used it. Unfortunately the device made me insane with its flippin crazy juice control that gave me nothing but constant dry hits and burnt cotton, so now it has gone bye-bye. As someone else here in the forum said, I Jai Hazed that fucker. :blowkiss:

Other option is you could use a metal-tank atty with (reliable) TC, and if you run it dry you just won't get any vapor!

Hope you and The Mister are hanging in there and doing alright. Are you having any summer weather yet?

I had a KF4 clone I never could get it built right either, lol

TC is out, out, out for moi though; I hate fidgeting with mods and am primarily a mech girl anyway

Never did try the Berserker, though I probably will someday if I ever go into buy mode again or would trade for one sometime

Oh yeah, and this has been one of the best Alaska summers ever, after it stayed frozen into June, lmao

We had some German tourists go out in the rough part in kayaks yesterday and they all three died

I have a Medusa Reborn. It is considered by manufacturer as a rdta. It is imo a good vape but as stated other than subtle flavor changes it is difficult to tell when it needs filling. Also due to design difficult to fill. It is more a rda with a very deep juice well. I think it holds about 3 mils.

Is it customary for people to go into glacial waters in an inflatable canoe? Venturing into that water when huge pieces of ice are falling nearby sounds risky at best, but doing it in an inflatable craft sounds like tempting fate to me. Very sad, though, especially to have that happen so far from their homes.

I have never known much about Alaska, but was very surprised to see that this glacier is in the southern part of the state. The landscape must be overwhelming there, beautiful and intimidating at the same time.

Not that I ever heard of - that area is super dangerous and not easy to get to

I prefer metal tanks when outside working ,,in the event I drop my mod. I have dropped my mod maybe 3 times in almost 4years. At least 1 time broke the glass,, maybe twice. Now I just do what I can to avoid that :)

One reason why I use a Wasp Nano on a Pico squeeze while outside.

I had a Tobeco KF5 clone and it looked sharp AF with the metal tank, but yeah couldn't tell the juice level. Which is what got me into TC; once the vape got weak, I knew it needed a fill-up. The by-product was discovering I enjoyed the TC experience overall much better than kathal. Haven't looked back.

I really like TC for certain mod/tank combinations. Don't like Kanthal at all. Ni80 is actually my favorite, but I do use SS if I think I'll use the atty for TC, or really, whenever the notion strikes me.

Probably Necro of an old thread but...

Steel tanks or glass tanks? Depends on what I'm doing / where I'm at. I will always, Always, ALWAYS prefer my steel tank section over my glass tank section at work. I also avoid using direct power (VV / VW) though too. 316L wire though. Which can run in either direct power OR replay / TC. IF by some chance I am running it in VV / VW mode though, I notice a change in flavors right before a dry hit. As soon as it changes, I know - somehow in the back of my mind - that I should check juice levels or juice flow control. The flavor will go from saturated to muted in a hit or two.

When running a steel tank section, it's always best to be safe - so check levels in your atty like you check fluids in your car.

How do you like your KFV5? I've used the metal tank on my OG KF since day one. Recently ran across the glass tank and it took me a while to figure out what it worked with. There should be a dipstick mod for metal tank users. Somebody could make millions.

I always used the metal tanks since im prone to dropping my shit all the time. I picked up steam tuners plexi tank for my kayfun prime so much better than the metal i can see my juice now and dropped it without any issues so far
