ESS Technologies Developed by XTAR is Going to Grand Debut at IECIE

Shenzhen eCig Expo (IECIE) is going to be held in Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center from April 14th to 16th, 2019. As the most influential and large-scale e-cigarette exhibition in the world, Shenzhen eCig Expo covers the upper, middle and lower reaches of the e-cigarette industry supply chain, and is expected to attract more than 1,000 exhibitors from 45 regions and more than 50,000 professional visitors. As a leading manufacturer in e-cigarette battery chargers, XTAR is also invited to participate in the vape expo.

Founded in 2006, XTAR is an electronic technology company that integrates R&D, production, sales and service in Shenzhen. XTAR has been specializing in the development and manufacture of high quality Li-ion batteries, smart chargers, and LED flashlights for over 13 years. With the high standards of quality control, XTAR products have achieved all major global certifications such as CE, UL, FCC and RoHS. And in the field of lithium battery charging has done a number of first: The first company to add protection boards to 18650 lithium batteries; the first company to apply LCD screens to lithium battery chargers; the first company to create a variety of functions for lithium battery chargers, such as precision internal resistance / volume / Current / voltage, etc.; the first company to create a three-stage charging, 0V activation technology for lithium battery chargers; the first company to use high and low pressure separation technology on lithium battery chargers.

In 2018, relying on the mature R&D department and independent production line, XTAR expands its industrial distribution. While providing OEM/ODM services to clients with special requirements, XTAR is also building a global one-stop charging solution company, to offer professional charging solution customization service to all clients that need someone to solve their power supply, circuit, battery and charging issues.

In recent years, with the implementation of smoking bans around the world, the increase of tobacco taxes and the relative openness of governments to e-cigarettes, e-cigarettes have gradually gained popularity in the European and American markets, and their popularity has been increasing. E-cigarettes have become the first choice for more and more smokers. Especially in the youth group that pursues high-quality style and fashion, the electronic cigarette has become a trend. There is no doubt that the e-cigarette industry has become the future development trend of tobacco culture.

However, behind the rapid development, there are also many problems. The development of e-cigarette industry has been greatly restricted by the jumble of e-cigarette products, the lack of authoritative and unified standards, the absence of market supervision, especially the frequent safety problems.

In order to help e-cigarette manufacturers better meet the escalating individualized needs of consumers, ensure the safety of e-cigarette products, and promote the development of e-cigarette industry, XTAR developed the e-cigarette Safety Shield (ESS) technologies. Then, what is ESS, what does it do, and how to promote the development of e-cigarette industry?

XTAR is going to hold a press conference on ESS new technology at the Shenzhen eCig Expo (IECIE). At that time, XTAR will explain to the public the content, working principle, function, application scenarios and how to promote the sustainable development of the e-cigarette industry.

It's reported that, in addition to lauching the ESS technologies conference, XTAR, as a leading enterprise in the field of lithium battery charger, will also reach deep strategic cooperation with NPE/Molicel, a dominant enterprise in the field of lithium battery, to achieve strong alliance. Moreover, XTAR will launch three new batteries 18650 2600mAh, 20700 3000mAh and 21700 4200mAh that use NPE/Molicel lithium battery cells at the exhibition.

According to the organizer of the exhibition, the 2019 Shenzhen eCig Expo (IECIE) is a breakthrough in many aspects compared with last year, many new products and black technology will make their debut at the event, which is worth looking forward to.

The largest eCig expo show in 2019 is just 3 DAYS TO GO! XTAR Booth 8A58

The VC4S charger is a powerful battery charger compatible with cylindrical batteries longer than 30mm and less than 75mm.

It can be charged on the USB-A to micro-USB cable without the need for an additional power adapter. The built-in QC3.0 input protocol allows the charger to achieve a maximum single-slot 3A fast charge when using the QC3.0 adapter.

This product has three different charging modes, capacitance and storage. When the battery is inserted, it can intelligently identify which battery is a lithium-ion battery or a nickel-hydrogen nickel-chromium battery, without requiring the user to manually select the battery type.

In addition, VC4S can automatically detect the internal resistance of the inserted battery, integrate the number of batteries, the maximum power of the input power, and the type of battery through the detected internal resistance, and then intelligently select an optimal charging strategy.

For most of us, the vape experience delivered by a regulated vape mod is perfect, however for those who enjoy tricking and chasing massive vape clouds the mod of choice is a mechanical mod.

But be warned, the use of a mechanical mod comes at a price in terms of potential danger and battery safety is paramount if you want to go down the mechanical mod road.

There are several factors to consider when choosing the best charger for your vape batteries. Not least of what brand chargers or batteries you use. A charger that can accurately, safely, and promptly charge various sized batteries is what vapers are looking for. Here is my recommendation of XTAR new released battery charger

Recently, XTAR released its first new item in the next half year in their Amazon official store. Most vapers who use mods have an interest in finding the best 18650 battery charger.

Some mods come with in-built batteries, but many require separately-purchased batteries an offer more flexibility and longevity as a result.

So take the Voopoo drag box mod into example:

The Drag has balanced charging and almost charges at 2 A (around 1.85 A), which is completely acceptable for charging both in terms of speed and battery health.
66209273_1280963932072489_988692499352518656_n.jpg

This box mod working well, but problem happens when you keep vaping with it for long time, both battery and box mod would get overheat, and the battery life would decline when vaping at a higher wattage.

For most of the vapers, battery charger is necessary at this time.

Finding the best vape battery charger means considering various factors including safety, accuracy and how many batteries it can support. Most chargers do the job well enough for most purposes, but if you want the best charger for 18650 battery mods, I would say you better choose the XTAR ST2 charger.

XTAR is a huge name for charger, their newest charger ST2 support 2 slots for all of vape battery, It’s very suitable for dual batteries insert box mod like

Voopoo drag,

Vandyvape pulse kit,

Wotofo Recurve squonk kit,

Geekvape Aegis Kit,

Smok Morph 219 kit

You can use XTAR ST2 as a vape battery charger for any size of battery (18650, 20700, 21700 include) you’ll come across when you’re vaping with Voopoo drag.

There are core reasons for ST2 become your first list of Voopoo drag box mod charger: To improve charging speed and shorten the charging time, the ST2 support with 4.1A maximum current, which means they can output larger current than most of the vape chargers on market,

It has an LCD display screen which shows information for the charging status of each battery you have loaded up.

And it supports Type-C Port, Dual Fast Charging Protocol. USB port available for most of box mod.

it has short circuit, over-charging and reverse polarity protection. From that way to protect the vape battery from overheat in your box mod.
65721773_479128546179658_4999023121416585216_n.jpg

XTAR ST2 charger price is also acceptable. Want to know it?

The Priority Choice Of 18650 or 20700 Battery Charger: XTAR ST2

18650 or 20700 batteries are the type of lithium-ion battery that’s become quite popular in recent years. They are still used primarily for power vapers and flashlight users as far as mainstream usage goes, but the market for them is spreading and specialized devices that use them are becoming more and more common all the time.

There are a few different factors that come into play when you’re looking into picking a charger out, and let’s take a look at XTAR ST2 battery charger and then we can discuss what reasons e that make the ST2 charger is the right one for you.

High-speed battery charging

In addition, the 18650’s expandable nature of the charging will allow your charger to charge an array of different batteries as well, thus making it quite useful to have around the house.

Base on that, XTAR ST2 support type C port, and the suitable slot for batteries, it can be adjustable if the batteries inserted comes with an over-charging protector.

The ST2 charger hold two batteries and get them charged for you quickly via supports the max current at 4.1 A, which can ensure the short charging time and very fast charging battery speed.
65925407_479128456179667_7795685028893032448_n.jpg

Battery security protection

The users will also concern about battery safety. It’s common that when the lithium-ion battery charging, they will get over-heat or overcharging, which will cause damage to the battery life. To solve this problem, ST2 adopts built-in protection circuit can effectively prevent over-current, over-charge, over-voltage, short-circuit, making charging safer. And also it’s very friendly to the battery.

Surprisingly, The ST2 charger is easy to use, with few buttons and features that are easy to understand. The XTAR ST2 also comes with LED indicator lights to let you know how far along things are.

And the percentage of charge is displayed on the screen, which is very convenient.

In the upper part we find beyond the two recharging slots, equipped with a contact for reading the battery temperature, a very defined display with white writing on a blue background, the two status LEDs and two buttons (CH1 and CH2) that distinguish the two recharge slots available with the XTAR ST2.
67408020_485875018838344_4400509683438190592_n.jpg

The XTAR ST2 charger is equipped with a USB Type-C input to connect our ST2 to a compatible power supply as well as a Power bank. The specially designed Type-C input is available to support the PD2.0 and QC 3.0 protocols, compatible with various adapters.
There are also openings that help dispose of the heat produced during operation.

In the lower part we find 5 soft rubber feet that raise the charger
giving stability and allowing, through other slits, to dispose of part of the heat produced.
The data of the charger and the serial number are then shown in white.
6AwIqPKSTiWg5Ds0K4lQBw.gif

Charging will start automatically. Press the CH1 or CH2 button to adjust the charging current. The notification LED above the display
changes from green to red to indicate the charge status. On the LCD display we can read the information regarding the voltage of the
batteries, the percentage of charge, the charge current, the internal resistance and the temperature of the batteries.

The XTAR ST2 battery charger intelligently selects the most suitable current by reading the internal battery resistance. It is however possible
to change it and switch to the three currents (1A / 2A / 4.1A) according to different needs.

The charging temperature is monitored through the built-in sensors throughout the recharging cycle. In my tests I never exceeded 50 ° C; in that case I loaded a Samsung 30Q with 4.1A until the complete recharge of 4.20V.
The built-in high-precision MCU makes the cut-off voltage up to ± 0.05 V and the XTAR ST2 charger at the end of charging (at 4.20V), automatically interrupts it and the notification LED turns green.

nLLEMO1jQMyizNHg1HBLYg.jpg

Note:
The battery charger is equipped with a "Dual Protection" protection system to guarantee safe charging and maximize battery life. The "Dual Protection" system consists specifically of protection against internal resistance and thermal protection.

1. Protection against internal resistance: the charger immediately detects the internal resistance of the battery. If the internal resistance is too high to allow recharging with 4.1 A, the device will automatically switch to a current of 2 A. Users can still change the charging current to 4.1 A by pressing the button (CH1 or CH2) . However, this change could damage the battery life.

2. Thermal protection: the charger monitors the battery temperature throughout the charge. If the battery temperature is too high, the device will automatically reduce the charging current to protect the battery.

Note: when the temperature is above 60 ° C, the charger automatically stops charging; when the temperature decreases, users must remove and re-insert the battery to continue charging.

XTAR ST2 Battery Charger Review (USB-C, Selectable Speed, Dual slot 4.1A Each)

Repost from our reviewer of Jon M.

XTAR has introduced their new 2 battery lithium ion based charger and it’s capable of charging 2 cells at 4.1A each from USB-C! It features adjustable charging rates too.
What’s in the packing.

The charger was early in the production cycle and didn’t actually come with any of the final retail packaging. The accessories that will be included with the final product are the charger itself, USB-C to C cable, and a USB-A to USB-C cable thats QC3 compliant.
blBrjhF.jpg

Construction

This charger is designed to charge cells 18650 and larger, primarily 18650, 18700, 20700, 21700, and 26650 batteries. To accomplish this XTAR made a few design changes. Instead of the positive end of the batteries facing the power plug, now the positive end faces the screen which is 180 degrees from pretty much all other chargers. Thankfully this is molded into the fire resistant plastic. They also designed the sliders (at the top) so no smaller batteries will fit, 18650’s are the minimum size. This charger should also charge protected 21700’s. Minimum size the charger accepts is 60mm, and maximum is 77mm. The charge now has temperature sensors on each bay in little metal pads that make direct contact with the batteries.

The sides pick up the blue theme with accents and the entire thing is made of soft touch flame retardant plastic. There are vents on the back and bottom of the charger to aid in cooling. Overall it’s made pretty well and feels solid.

As noted before the screen on this charger is on the bottom of it, and while the screen part itself is fairly small. Text is large enough and very clear. The background is a nice deep blue and text is white. The display shows the current-voltage of the cell, Percentage of charge, charging speed, and temperature of the cell in centigrade. When you first plug in the charger it will do a test and show the resistance of the cell.

Below the screen you do have two buttons for each charging slot. These control the charging speed of each slot, with your options being 1A, 2A, or 4.1A. If you hold the button for 1.5 seconds the backlight and LED will turn completely off for night charging, although the red and green LED indicators (Charging/Charged) will stay on. The backlight will go to sleep after a few second under normal operation.

gTEVdnzWQFK7vzWlCcLEgA.gif

Charging via QC3

When charging via QC3, the charger is not capable of charging 2 batteries at 4.1A each. Instead it will charge 2 batteries at a maximum of 2A each. If you drop down to one cell it will charge at 4.1A. There is no indicator on the screen what your power source is, if it’s QC2 or QC3.

Charging via USB-C!

For maximum performance across both bays, the best thing is to use a power supply that capable of at least 40W (measured at the wall) or more via USB-C PD. I used my Innergie 60C charger for my testing because it’s the only USB-C charger I have that could deliver enough power. I tried my XTAR EU4 with USB-C but when loading up 2 batteries it would shut off when I tried to charge both at 4.1A.

When charging 2x 21700 batteries at 4.1A each at the start the charger was drawing 40W @ 0.74A at the wall. The cells started off at 24C. At 7% charger they had heated up to 30C. At 25% charge they were 45C and this was as hot as the charger reported things as getting, and my infrared thermometer measured similar temps. Total time to charge both 4000mAh 31700 batteries from 3.5V to 4.2 was 1 hour 25 minutes. Terminating voltage was 4.188V.

5dQKCRP.jpg

Pro’s

USB-C PD! Finally we have a charger utilizing USB-C and PD. QC3 is also an option with a A to C cable.

Speed, this is one of the fastest chargers on the market, able to charge at 4.1A on each bay simultaneously. Great for those high capacity 21700’s and 26650’s if you need the speed.

Selectable Charger Rate, this is something we need from XTAR’s other chargers such as the X and VC series chargers.

Direct and continuous measurement of the temp of the battery, great for safety when charging at such high rates.

Con’s

When using USB-C you must plug the charger in first then insert the batteries.

Cell orientation is backwards from most other chargers with positive terminal facing the user.

Unit shuts off when not receiving enough power (USB-C) instead of charging slower or giving a warning. This is kind of frustrating sometimes.

Larger Lithium batteries only, Unfortunately this isn’t a perfect one stop charger because it doesn’t support Ni-HM cells or smaller Lithium ion like 18350 or 14500.

XTAR VC2 DISASSEMBLY AND SMALL REVIEW

Repost from our reviewer of KytanDale.
Hi vapes,
I got today a new toy, and after charging a pair of cells I decide to have a look inside. @fogstar , no need to worry, I will not ask for warranty as of now.

The device is well built, good case, the lcd light LED has a small bright spot on a corner but that is to be expected, maybe just my ocd. The springs on the contacts are quite snappy, be careful on fingers and battery wraps.
img_20190722_225925-jpeg.196887

It is built around and MCU that has no part code on it, quite normal as people steal designs. Mirrored charging circuit, good soldering and good parts. The control MOSFETs are 30v and 4A, for a 0.5A/cell charger it is ok although I kinda wanted to see a bit of overkill here. The reverse polarity is done with Schottky diodes, by the part number ( i hate decrypting smd codes) they seems to be specialised diodes for reverse polarity protection.

I loved the fact that it barely gets warm ( somehow expected at 0.5A per cell charge) it points that the circuit is sized correctly.
The charging current goes down as the cells are almost full, and the cut-off voltage seems to be around 4.19v. Once the cells are full it barely draws anything, I was to lazy to put a proper multimeter instead of the usb meter, the meter showed 0 but I would expect a few mA to run the circuit and power the display but it does indicate that it cuts the cells once full. When fully charging it draws between 0.8A to 1.1A with 2 cells. Did not try only 1 cell.
img_20190722_231224-jpeg.196890

The only thing I noticed, and maybe I don't understand how it works ( looping @XTAR in for info) is that the current indicator is stuck at max , 0.5A , even when the cells are almost full and the whole charger draws 0.2A, that meter is still at 0.5 amps. Maybe it will change when charging a small mA/h cell but not sure if it is a bug or I did not test the right setup.

Tested with some spare efest cells and my trusty samsung 2A charger. The usb meter, although a cheap thing it was tested on a calibrated multimeter and it is accurate.

Hope you guys like it and it is useful.

I would easily recommend this charger. It is slow but ot it seems well built and does what it says.

What do I think about this Charger?

I absolutely like this charger due the fact that you can now manually change the charging current between 4.1A, 2A and 1A depending on your input power. Using a normal QC3.0 charger you can charge 1 battery at 4.1A (not recommended for 18650 but rather for 20700 or 21700) or can charge two 18650 batteries at either 2A or 1A. The charger also allows changing each battery charging current separately for when not charging married batteries. You can charge 1 battery at 2A and the other at 1A if required.

When using a QC3.0 charger, you wont be able to charge two batteries at 4.1A as the charger will power down without warning due to the input but when using the USB C cable with a PD2.0 charger you will be able to charge two batteries at 4.1A.

I found that it was best to power up the charger first before adding batteries. If batteries are inserted and the charger is then powered up it seems to confuse the charger causing it to not detect the charging current. This causes the charger to get stuck in 4.1A charging mode and if you are using a QC3.0 charger, the charger will continuously turn on and off until the batteries are removed and reinserted. This will not happen if you use the PD2.0 charger.

Note: I did not test the charger with a PD2.0 charger as I do not have one available.

Thermal protection:
The charger monitors the battery temperature throughout the charge. If the battery temperature is too high, the device will automatically reduce the charging current to protect the battery.

Note: when the temperature is above 60 ° C, the charger automatically stops charging; when the temperature decreases, users must remove and re-insert the battery to continue charging.

What about Looks?
The charger is finished in matte black with a rubbery feel to it and popping blue lines on the side. The LCD screen is bright and of a nice size with all the information clearly visible for the user. The LCD screen provides the Charging Current, Battery Temp, Battery Percentage as well as battery Volts.

LED indicators:
Green: standby / charge complete / contact defective / polarity reversed
Red: charging / activation in progress
No light: power supply disconnected

Turn on / off the backlit screen:
The display goes dark one minute after the end of use. Press and hold the CH1 or CH2 button for 1.5 seconds to dim the screen and reactivate each function.

Protection

My Pro's

· Manual current selection for charging batteries – 4.1A / 2A / 1A

· Intelligent battery detection

· Temp sensor for safe charging

· Great design, Look and feel

· Excellent protection

· Fast charging

· Small and portable

· Change over to the latest USB-C type.

My Cons's

· Does not include a QC3.0 or PD2.0 power supply. Really think this should be included for chargers.

· Trying to charge at 2 X 4.1A using a QC3.0 charger should rather give an error instead of the charger switching off or it should rather automatically detect and change to 2A.

My Verdict?
For the past 2 months i have been using my VC4S XTAR charger and love it but now i have fallen in love with the ST2 from the way it looks to the way it works, its really a great charger that works great and has excellent features! I would love this exact charger in a 4 bay design!

Would I buy one or recommend one? Absolutely! The fact that you as the user can now change the charging current means that XTAR listened to all of us and have changed the way forward for XTAR!

Hope you guys enjoyed my review of the XTAR ST2 Charger and look forward to all the likes, feedback or questions!

What do I think about this charger?

You can change the charging current between 4.1A, 2A and 1A. Using a normal QC3.0 charger you can charge 1 battery charge at 4.1A (not recommended for 18650 but rather for 20700 or 21700) or can charge for two 18650 batteries at either 2A or 1A. Charging adapter for battery charging. You can charge 1 battery at 2A and if necessary.

If you are using a charger, you will not have to be able to charge it. two batteries at 4.1A.

I found it before it was added. If the battery is plugged in, it seems that there is no charge. If you are using a charger, it can be used to get the battery charger. This will not happen if you use the PD2.0 charger.

Note: I didn’t have to do it.

The Charger Review - The ST2 by Xtar

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, and welcome to Pizza Dave’s Vape Reviews. Today I have a charger review for ya’ll. I will start out with the fact that I am by no means a battery charger expert. I have used several of them, but I would not look to my “review” of these items on a basis other than how I liked using them. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a charger is battery safety. Chargers, along with everything in vaping continue to push the limit. Sometimes, the limit is safety. Some new chargers on the market offer much faster charging with higher output. This is great for those on the go but can prove to be dangerous if it pushes the cells too much. I strongly suggest being patient with charging and stick to around 1 amp per cell. You may refer to Mooch’s (just google Mooch), for his tables on battery charging levels recommended by the manufacturers of the batteries.
89xVJvR.jpg

With all that being said, here is what I have today. I am here to talk about the ST2 charger from Xtar. I recently reviewed their VC4S and am a 19-month user of the VC4. Their products so far have not let me down, so they have a rather positive repour with me. I have babbled enough, so let’s get right to it.

XTAR ST2

Dual bay, 18650, 20700, 21700, 22650, and 26650 compatible

4.1 amp “ultra-fast” charging over two slots

Battery temperature sensing

Multiple charge output settings

USB-C cable

OVERVIEW

YVHRnfA.jpg

Alright, so the ST2 is packed with a lot of features. We have come to expect this from Xtar, as this company has made some solid chargers for a few years now. I never received a manual, or packaging with mine, so I had to wing it a bit. Out of the box, there are a few things that jumped out to me. One, was the large size of this charger. It is not a very compact or portable charger, and it is designed with a solid footprint to lay flat on a surface. Secondly, the entire unit is covered in a soft, rubberized like finish. It really makes it feel like is a quality device. Lastly, I noticed that this uses a USB-C cable. These are three things that stood out right away. Upon use, I found that the charge bay as a perfect amount of tension on the batteries, and even with 21700s, there was plenty of room to insert and remove them from the charger. This is a simple device, as it has what they are calling intelligent charging. This analyzes the cells and applies what it “thinks” is the correct charging strategy for that particular battery. Those are words paraphrased from their site. The shiny bits that sit against the side of the batteries are for temperature sensing. This charger is designed to shut down if the cells reach a limit, they deem dangerous, which kicks in at 60 degrees C.

USE

I won’t be getting into details of how well this charger works with charging, as I don’t have the equipment to properly test that. It does offer some high output mods when coupled with the quick charge power supply such as a USB3.0 or PD2.0. I tested mine with a Samsung 2-amp fast charger, which is not adequate for putting this into these high amp output modes. I also did some digging before hand and found that I probably do NOT want to test this with that range, as it exceeds my batteries safe limits which good old battery Mooch recommends. I essentially used this as a 2-amp charger with 1 amp going to each bay. I could not test this to its full capacity, and honestly shouldn’t even be writing the review without being able to. If I did have it connected this way, I could press the CH1 and CH2 buttons to change the output that I want to deliver to each cell.

______________________________________________________________________________

FINAL THOUGHTS

What I did find during use is that it……surprise…. charged my batteries and did so quite well. I like the solid nature of the device, and like what they did with the battery bay. The display isn’t as nice as what I am used to on the VC4 or VC4S, but it shows everything you need to know clearly. Overall, there isn’t a lot I can fault on this charger. Sure, it is on the big side and it has the potential to be dangerous if you don’t do your homework. However, even with these things, I believe it has a level of intelligence to protect against some issues, and it looks and feels like it is a well-built product. They claim that it can revive dead cells, which I think is great for something like a flashlight, but I always question this when used for vaping. Maybe they will be fine, but it is something I wouldn’t recommend it. If I were shopping for a 2-bay charger, I can see myself gravitating towards this one. It is one of the nicest looking and feature packed chargers I have used to date. Sure, it has a few cons, but none that I feel are major knocks against it.

Like I said in my intro, I am no battery or battery charging expert. This is a well-built charger that has the features that I like. Please refer to some of the guys that are professionals in this manner, as they really get down to the nitty gritty of how these work and how safe they are!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROS

·

Offers a wide range of charging output

Packed with several features

Cuts off if batteries get too warm

Has great tension of the battery slots

Has a nice, clear display

Uses a USB-C cable

CONS

XTAR ST2 4.1A Battery Charger
XTAR’s ST2 a new fast charger from XTAR. Furthermore a mere 30 mins to charge 2×18650’s. A new style, and battery deck. However does the XTAR ST2 perform ?

This product has been sent with the kind generosity of XTARfor the purpose of an impartial review. Furthermore the thoughts that you find below are mine and are not influenced by the fact that this was gifted.
Box Contents

The XTAR ST2 comes supplied in the typical XTAR white packaging, with a usable battery list on one side, and basic features on the other. Additionally on the back are some more product information, warranty number, social media links, scratch and check authenticity. While in the box itself is the XTAR ST2, USB cable, and instruction guide.

Important – The ST2 is a 3.6/3.7 V charger only, this will not charge AA type batteries unlike the VC4S.

I'll start with the power supply. This is a pretty weighty white box with the XTAR logo on one side. The shape of the block and the design looks very much like similar products for laptops with an apple, but the design is different. Firstly, the outer edges are not rounded, secondly, there is no cable in the kit and it cannot be tied up on retractable legs, and thirdly, the switching system between the American and European outlet systems is very interesting. In the basic state, the unit is equipped with a folding fork, just suitable for use in the United States and several other countries. European plug is mounted on the unit in the folded state and is fixed due to the friction forces in the grooves between the contacts. Simple, comfortable, cute.

The charging screen is made by LCD technology, it is quite large, readable and has a nice blue backlight. All controls are reduced to the only double key of the signed CH1 and CH2 , there are no separate power buttons or other controls. After energizing, charging the XTAR ST2makes a screen test ( 1 ), then a performance test, sets the maximum current to 4.1 Ampere and goes into standby mode ( 2 ). Already at this moment, by pressing the buttons, you can select the desired amperage, cyclically switching it on each channel (1/2 / 4.1 Ampere), similarly, you can switch the amperage during charging. A long press on any key turns off the backlight ( 5), note that during charging, the backlight only reduces the brightness, but does not turn off completely by itself. After the batteries are installed, the correct polarity is checked (error indication in frame 3 ), the current charge of the battery, its internal resistance (it appears on the screen for a third second, and I didn’t take a photo), voltage and temperature are checked. The start of charging is indicated by a red LED above the screen for each slot and the current parameters on the screen itself. At the end of the charge, the LEDs will turn green.

XTAR ST2. Practical test.

For the practical test, I took two 20700 format batteries from IJOY with a capacity of 3000 mAh. Both are discharged in a mechanical mode to voltages of 3.27 and 3.52 Volts, respectively. The charge mode was chosen 4.1 Ampere.

How many lithium batteries exist, how many debates are there about their proper charging. Some prefer low currents to the detriment of time, others read datasheets and strictly follow the recommendations of can manufacturers. Well, while others simply buy a powerful charger with temperature control and pour energy into their batteries as quickly as possible. Just for those who are not used to waiting and who care little for thinking and calculating - XTAR has released a powerful, fast and safe charger with a minimum of settings.

XTAR ST2 packaging

The Chinese company XTAR sent me a test pre-sale sample of the charger and power supply to it in simple plastic bags, and therefore I can’t show the photo of the sales package, just as I can’t say what is written in the instructions and whether it is at all. Instead, I propose to look at the image from the official site, I think it should not differ much from what goes on the store shelves.

Regardless of whether you have a power supply or not, you will receive two cables with the charger. The first, with USB Type-C connectors from both sides, is intended for USB Power Delivery 2.0 standard power supplies. The second, with USB Type-C connector on one side and USB from the second, is intended for Quick Charge 3.0 power supply units.

The appearance of the charger XTAR ST2 maximum "render". It's just a bed for two cans and a screen under it. The manufacturer chose thermally resistant plastic as a material and additionally applied a soft-touch coating to it. On the reverse side of the unit, you can see its main characteristics (they will be duplicated in the table below) and the sticker with the serial number.

Personal impressions.

Charger XTAR ST2 definitely has the right to exist. It is simple to impossible, so any one will understand with two buttons. Practically any power supply can be connected to it, at least specialized, even from a phone with support for one of the two most common formats in the world (QC3.0 or PD2.0), and temperature control sensors will not allow irreparable happen even at high charge currents. In general, for those who are not going to bother and understand the intricacies and features of the charging process, and those who need to simply and quickly charge the batteries - this is what you need. And I can only complain about not the lowest price. Yet $ 50! But given that this is only the start of sales, she simply must go down to the imputed $ 25-30 in a couple of months.

ST2 product review
The interface is simple here, as is the case with almost all XTAR chargers I've sampled. Put a cell in and it will start charging. The button beneath the cell bay will cycle through the available maximum rates of charge - 1, 2, or 4.1 A.
The LED below each bay is red while charging, and green while ready or charging is complete.
When a cell is first installed, the internal resistance is shown. After that, the charger shows the percent charge, cell voltage, maximum charge rate, and cell temperature. In my testing, the termination voltage would sometimes be displayed instead of the current cell voltage, but that seemed intermittent. Also, note that the current shown is the maximum the cell is set to, and does not indicate the rate at that time.

Putting a cell in the wrong direction will show "Er" on the display. Connecting the power to the charger with cells inserted will not do anything until they're removed and re-inserted.
Li-Ion

This is the first I've heard of a charger claiming to charge a cell at 4.1 A - so can it pull it off? All charging measurements below were recorded with version 2.0 of my charger measurement setup, or a slightly modified version of it.
ST2Charge2.png

Apparently it can. A 30Q in bay 1 charged at over 4.1 A for over 10 minutes before starting to slow down. That might not sound like a long time, but it's more than enough to jump start the charge time. The charger seems to go to a phase of linear reduction of current for a bit, perhaps due to temperature, before finishing with a constant voltage charge. Termination is good, but the charger does pretend it's finished before the last little bit is complete. You don't gain much capacity past this point, and since this charger is really aimed at getting back up and running as soon as possible this isn't a tragedy, but I'd prefer if the display matched reality.
A couple notes here, since I'm sure everyone is asking:
Is it safe to charge a cell this fast? Probably. As long as it's a genuine, high quality cell, the safety steps this charger takes of measuring the internal resistance and monitoring the temperature are good precautions. That being said, I would definitely not want to try this with a cell from an untrustworthy source, and the usual safety tips should be followed.
Is it a good idea to charge a cell this fast? High rates of charge or discharge are harder on the cell, and will decrease the lifespan over time - there's no denying that. Again, making sure it doesn't get too warm while charging helps that, but there's still some wear and tear here. If you need to get back up as soon as possible and want to reduce downtime, it's probably worth it! This certainly applies for vapers, people using lights for work, and nuts like me that review lights and don't always have enough charged cells available. If you're just using an EDC light and it needs charging, a slower rate will probably be fine and will help your cells last a bit longer.
ST2Charge1.png

Setting the charge rate to 2 amps shows a more typical CC-CV curve. My monitoring setup turned off unfortunately, but I can confirm that the charger indicated charging was done long before current stopped flowing into the cell, just like the previous test. As with the first test, you can see that QC was used from the lower USB current - the charger can pull that off because the USB voltage was higher.
