Double Barrel by Squid Industries

I have had two Double Barrels just stop working on me. No discernable reason and certainly not hard used (both were house mods). The mod just stops unaccountably. The first time I thought - okay sometimes you get a bad mod. But twice? I've heard others have the same issue too. And no - it is not juice leaking into the chip (which should be protected bit is not).

Also had an issue with the Tac. Despite saying it accommodates 21700s it does not. It is also not so easy dealing with them. If like me you get a mod on a trade without a receipt they don't even look at it.

So I'm done with Squid.

I’ve heard others say their DB’s had issues also screens going, doors not catching etc ...shame it’s a lovely looking mod

wonder if these are from the later batches when production scaled up due to popularity?

There are only a couple companies who's warranty covers second hand devices and personally I don't find that to be unreasonable. There are a few tutorials posted where to sand for the TAC to fit 21700 batteries. Squid addressed this problem when the mod was released and you could send it in for the sanding or you could do it yourself. Eric Buss has a tutorial video up.

I don't really have a dog in the fight, seems a shame if their mods are having these kind of issues. It only caught my eye because just yesterday in a fb vape group I'm in someone commented they were looking for a new mod. Both their double barrel and detonator mods took a shit back to back. Not looking good and might indicate a bigger problem extending beyond just one mod. I could even chalk one up to user error, but 2 different models, same company back to back? Seems unlikely to be just random user error. And I like the story behind it and all and support ex service members business ventures but shit's gotta get fixed. No excuse for poor customer service. Especially when they got recommended all over the place.

With a number of people seemingly having faulty mods I'm still willing to bet dollars to donuts they don't get trashed like smok did over the alien because a few of those had issues. Which has just been something I've noticed when it comes to trashing companies or products. Double barrel and detonator are averaging around $100, the alien was like $40-45. Doesn't matter that both have issues, the cheaper one will invariably be the whipping boy while people go softer on a mod costing twice the price. You'll have a few here or there that say screw it I'm done with company xyz but there won't be a collective lynch mob badmouthing them from the rooftops.

Possibly a wiring issue. I had the same issue with mine and had to send it back.

Maybe unlikely but totally possible because some people just destroy shit. Their normal use is abuse.

My Double Barrel Detonator stopped working 3 weeks after I got it.
There was no drop or shock of any sort. It simply stopped functioning.

I didn't say it wasn't possible, just not as likely. I definitely don't talk to every vaper out there and of the few I come across not everyone has a squid device. In the space of a week I've come across 2 different people with 2 separate mods each that for no reason crapped their pants.

My assessment of how brands are treated isn't far off either, when it's smok mods popping up with faults it's because 'smok is shit'. When it's squid industries $100 mods popping up with faults it's 'possible user error, people are rough on things and abuse products'. I'm not saying you're in both camps, just pointing out the feedback differentiates it seems based on company and of course price of the mod. I don't know why but more expensive mods do tend to get more of a fair shake than other big brands.

Have you tried to catch them on Facebook?
I know the owner is pretty active on their Facebook page

I'm not saying you're in both camps,

The only MOD I ever had the died was due to abuse because I dropped it on the Concrete and broke the battery door. I don't know why you're cosnidering me in these camps but many of the complaints I see are questionable.

I was only commenting on what I personally notice. People report problems with a mod, whatever the issue. If it's smok the typical comment is 'cause smok is shit'. Other more expensive brands like squid, lost vapes etc the comments are typically 'what did the user do to break it?'. IE it can't be the mod. Just wonder why it is that when more expensive brands have issues (as all mod companies are liable to with products), one is given the benefit of the doubt and the user behavior is questioned and when it's another like smok no one ever says 'well was it dropped? did you get juice in it?' it's 'well that's what you get for buying smok' or 'smok sucks'.

As I said I'm not lumping you into the camp of those who do both. Just pointing out what I see. Browse through various mod complaints and 10 to 1 if it's a lower priced product from a higher production company like smok, wismec, ijoy etc it's 'cheap chinese junk'. If it's dotmod, squid, lost vapes, rebel or anything else with an issue there won't be the same lynch mob saying 'that's what you get for getting a squid industries' or 'that's what you get buying lost vapes, they're shit'.

I originally agreed with you and I own a lot of SMOK Products but NEVER had a problem.

Re: Squid
I was big into their private FB club. I have an original DB 2.1 for knocking around but don't use it. Yes, the door is a pain in the ass. I did some trades for some customs and won some. I sent my trades off for a spa job. $30 for warranty at that time. I tried using the original DB but it's not for me. I have yet tried V3. BUT, I kept winning customs that ran $285 at the time. I still have the customs if interested, at a discount of course. I sold my Detonators and Tac 21's. There was quite a demand for them. Winning the in the Squid Waffles was sweet. Most came with kits, which included the detonator or King.

In conclusion, I feel Eric is grasping at straws now. The original DB 2.1 is what I consider the most sturdy. Anything else with a LED is a gamble. His prices have come way down. His launch was a great success. It was insane.

There's my 5 cents.

I have the 2.1 which I got second hand. The fire/adjustment button fell off but I glued it back on. The first year I babied it and then I let someone else use it for 3 months. It looked like crap when I got it back. Besides the button only other issue I have is the battery door. I have had it arc a couple times when closing the door. It has been abused and still running hard.

There is always going to be a few lemons with any product. I purchased a DB to knock around that had a bowed door. Due to the type of metal I couldn't straighten it. So I bought spare parts. Their warranty service is actually really good. At least it was over a year ago. They still have spare parts.

I have spare doors & knobs. I bought a silver wrap that looks like scales and Squid sticker in case someone wanted to dress one up. I also have 7 mods I'll be selling. Three are custom, 2 are kits, 1 is Champagne Gray and I have a lone black one. Oh. I show a v3.0 on my list. All but lone black DB 2.1 are brand new. I rather like the power of the DB. It doesn't really suit my vaping style, though. If interested in either a part or a mod, PM me. I won't get to listing them for another week or so.
