SMOK AL85

I just bought a new SMOK AL85. I've been using a SMOK X-PRIV BABY. The coils i use for the priv wont work in the new AL85. The 85 just will not fire or it says check battery. Nothing would work with my older batteries, but I have a brand new one, it works but only with the coil that came with it. Is there a certain coil i have to use or an i just not doing it right?

AL85 and XPriv Baby are the names of the mods, not the tanks. I'm assuming you bought kits.

The AL85 kit comes with a TFV8 Baby Beast tank.

The XPriv Baby comes with a TFV12 Big Baby Prince tank.

I don't have these myself but it appears that some coils should fit both tanks.

Element Vapes description says the Big Baby Prince is compatible with TFV8 Baby coils.

I give up. Someone who knows Smok better should help you with this. :(

Yes, sorry. I did buy the kits. And yes those are the tanks that came with them. For some reason though, SMOK TFV8 Baby Replacement Coils V8 Baby-T8 Octuple Core that I bought will not work. Its extremely confusing.

I can find almost nothing about the Big Baby Prince. The only specific reference I see to a coil type is the Q2.

AL85... Man, you need to find some better reviewers. SMOK has the worst QC in the industry.

I will agree lol. I've never had bad luck with SMOK. Until now, when I started vaping 2 years ago and quit smoking cigarettes the vape shop i was going to, didn't exactly have much input, they couldnt answer any of my questions. So I started buying the starter kits. I have 4 total and this last one has been a pain in the butt.

The AL85 and X-Priv Baby are mods.

Is you tank an X-Baby? Is it top airflow?

HA! Look at that. I missed one. I do hereby stand corrected.

It does looks like the Baby Beast/Big Baby Beast coils are compatible though.

There is a Baby Prince, but not a Big Baby Prince :D Smok has waaaay too many babies LOL!

In the description for the X-Priv Baby kit, they refer to the tank as a Big Baby Prince.

Which also means, assuming the glass will work, or one of the others will work, that the very good rba deck will work too. Along with a zillion other coils from other companies. .

This is the problem with trying to keep up with Smok's ever expanding catalog of tanks and coils

Lol I'm so confused! the x-priv baby came with the Prince glass but it busted so i used the glass from my BBB. But the one in currently using is the AL85. And it won't work with any other cool than the one of came with. I'm starting to think I wasted my dang money.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just didn't see that later post. Sorry.
Oh no! That's the trouble with online text based communication. No vocal intonation or facial expressions. I didn't take it that way at all and I was not in any way put off by your comment. :) It doesn't always come through on the screen.

The X-Priv baby and AL85 are mods. A battery operated vaporizer whose connection is compatible with every Smok tank (And everybody else's) released in the last few years. That is separate and different from the tanks they come with in their kits.

Either TANK will attach to either mod. The X-Priv Baby kit came with the Big Baby Prince tank. The AL85 came with the Baby Beast tank. Either tank will work on either mod and they both take the same coils. That gives you a few dozen choices in pre-built coil heads OR using the RBA deck for the Baby Beast/Big Baby Beast/(and now apparently Big Baby Prince) where you can build your own.

When I was still using pre-built factory coils in my BBB, the T6 was my favorite of the ones I tried.

I personally have had no more issues with my Smok tanks or coils, all of which I still have, than I have with anybody else's and the RBA deck for the BB/BBB (And now apparently BBP) has better flavor than some of my RDAs and RTAs.

If you are getting the check battery error message you can try unscrewing the coil and then pulling the center pin in the bottom of the coil out a little then screw the coil back in.

upload_2019-6-23_21-44-15.png

Sometimes the coil doesn't make a proper connection at the base of the tank.

You want to pull the center pin about 1/3 of the way out then screw the coil back in.

If that doesn't work you may need to check the center pin in the tank base.

I've been trying to juggle too many things at once and missed the point of this thread. I guess I should have read the original post. That's what I get for assuming.

Okay here is my deal. I used a Smok Alien 85 as my out side mod. I ride a bicycle and drop stuff. I used it with a BB, BBB, Prince, and various RDA'S. If you are gettin error messages I don't know. Perhaps there is a cleanliness issue between the 510 pen and the mod. My alien 85 worked flawlessly for two years with any sub ohm tank or RDA I attached to it. I paid it forward to another individual and as far as I know it is still working it would be about 3 years old now.

I owned and used AL85/BBB for a while back when they came out. I don't recommend smok or keep up with them much.
AL85 not a great choice to run .15 T-8 Like said, maybe the battery. What's your preferred wattage? What battery you using?
Of those 4 kits, you could sell all but the one you want to keep as a back up rig, and upgrade.

Ok, let's try this again.

Are you getting an error message on the XPriv Baby when you try to run that octuple coil in the BBP tank? Or does it just not fire? Or does the coil not screw into the tank at all?

A .15 coil will pull more wattage than the mod is capable of. Even with a brand new and fully charged battery.

Yeah. Should have a reputable 15A battery for the 40w they mentioned. For the op, reputable is the key word.

or an i just not doing it right?
The coils are the same size. Like @5150sick said, I think the gold plated pin might not be making contanct with the coil properly. Take it out, push the pin up, and reseat the coil. You dont have to asseble the tank fully, just screw it on your mod and see if it reads it. Or put the whole tank together if you wish. Make sure the 510 connector on your mod is clean also.

OP is trying to use a 0.15 ohm octuple coil in the Big Baby Prince on the XPriv Baby, which has a 2200mAh internal battery. Is there even a way to know that internal battery's ACTUAL continuous discharge rate?

I jumped the gun yesterday thinking that OP was saying that the coil wouldn't fit in the Big Baby Prince, but as some of you pointed out, that may not even be the problem. She could be getting an error message or something else may be happening, and @gsmit may be exactly right that the internal battery doesn't have enough oomph to fire that coil.

At this point with the limited info I've seen with my own eyes, I wouldn't use any coil but the TFV8 Q2 in the Big Baby Prince.
I started out by skimming this thread and missing the original issue and now I keep getting mixed up about which mod were talking about. The AL85 uses a single 18650 and the X-Priv Baby uses the internal battery.

I just bought a new SMOK AL85. I've been using a SMOK X-PRIV BABY. The coils i use for the priv wont work in the new AL85. The 85 just will not fire or it says check battery. The OP says it's the AL85 that is the focus. It would be good to know what 18650 exactly the OPer is using. Even if brand new.

What make and model and just as importantly, where it was bought from. I don't get the sense that there's anything actually broken here. Not that my sense is infallible or anything.

Assuming the battery is usable, which we don't know yet, for the heck of it, try taking the tank off, pressing the fire button a couple times and having the mod resample the coil when you put it back on and see what it says, if anything,

Well, right you are and I have had a 12-hour-long senior moment, apparently. I'll bow out and stop confusing the issue. I do apologize.

Will you stop apologizing LOL! You're trying to help :)

Ok, I'll stop apologizing, but I'm also going to clean up my posts in this thread so they won't continue to confuse the issue. Somebody could read this a year from now and fall over from pretzel brain! :)

If appropriate, I will edit your quotes in my posts to match. I wasn't doing any better either btw :D Us old computer folks seem to need a processor, memory and storage upgrade from time to time. I gave up waiting on mine though. :wait:
