Why is my RTA getting really hot?

I don't think that I'm chain vaping enough for the atty to get as hot as it gets. Is this normal or is it my builds? Seems to be the same most of the time.

Using a rebirth RTA with a dual clapton at .23 resistance. Aegis legend
-Oh I only use wattage mode, would the other modes help this issue?

If my coils were touching the top hat then it should short out. WTF

.23 ohms is good for under 40-50 watts.... And it won't get hot..... But once you start pushing above 60 watts it will get hot after 5-6 hits.....

.24 ohms at 60 watts is pushing almost 7 volts

Why would you need a calculator app?
Watts is adjustable on the mod, adjust until you get the vape you want.

How many watts that is depends on the atty, airflow, coil, wicking, etc.
And your taste, hot vape, cool or medium.

Less airflow will cause the atty to vape and get hotter, more airflow cools them down.
Coil calculators can get you in the ballpark but fine tuning is to your taste and setup.

Good advice above, if you like a hot vape/higher wattage, lower your build below. 2
I can use a tiny bit of 30g and be below .2. Does that mean it will be a hot vape? Of course not. A resistance number alone means nothing.

Why don't you keep up, the op said he was using dual claptons, so going with his coil choice in that rda he can easily go lower and vape at 60 watts. He's obviously new so common sense says keep it simple.

I’m trying to keep it accurate and simply saying “go lower” means nothing. Removing wraps is going lower. How does that factor in to your advice? And with a variable wattage mod resistance is pretty much irrelevant. You’re the one lagging behind.

I was using the calculator due to using a mech for a bit, just haven't stopped since I use 4 different atty's throughout the day. I just used my serpent with a similar resistance and not getting hot like the Rebirth RTA does. Before I read any suggestions from you gents I tried some different wire and the Rebirth seems to get hot really fast and I was at a lower wattage breaking in some new cotton and coils.

Yes I'm a newb, that's why I'm here asking. ;)

I've a clone Rebirth RDA - and no matter what I do with that thing, it gets almost too hot to touch - and I don't chainvape. Other than clean look of the cap, I've nothing positive to say about it at all - except it was under $15.

Some attys run hotter than others.
Also make sure the 510 pin it tight.
And you might play a bit with coil position? Higher or lower?

Serpent? I likes my Serpents.

resistance is just one factor. Higher mass coils will heat the atty more than a lower resistance one.
I run about a .4 coil in my serpents, I also run a parallel .35 in some RDA's which has higher mass and they heat up the RDA much more than they will a serpent.
Higher mass coils have more surface area and make more vapor however they also radiate more heat out into the atty.

Interesting, never tried the rda. I got a heck of a deal on the rta and it was surprisingly good with great flavor.

This is a good awnser here...

What kind of coils are you using and what resistance? Have you noticed yours getting hit like mine?

tried fewer wraps, lower wattage, full air flow. Something doesn't seem right because it gets hotter than any atty I've had and tried. Going to get some plain ni80(what I've always used) and build some basic coils. All my other atty's run the same wire I've used with no issues like this.

Just realized, I purchased my wife a blue rebirth RTA that I haven't had to re-wick yet. I'll borrow hers and see if I run into the same issue with the same build in my rebirth.

Meanwhile, another profile RTA shows up in my mailbox on Friday, looking forward to the gold. :)

I only used some tricore fused claptons at .17 55 watts and never really felt it get too hot. But that's the RTA
