My RDA gets extremely hot,it almost melts ultem cap

Im using a Vandy Vape Pulse X with an Vandy Vape Pulse X RDA with a single SAMSUNG 2500mAh 3.7V 25R battery, and at 20 watts after 3-4 puffs, the body gets very very hot,and at 40 watts, the heat almost melts my frosted ultem cap,I use 2 coils at 0.12 ohm. What could be the problem?

Where did you get the battery and is that hot too? Meaning if you pull the side of the mod off after vaping it, is the battery hot to the touch?

I bought it in a shop,it is almost brand new,I used it a few times on one of my other mods. It isn't damaged, and I checked out,it itsn't getting warm at all.

I don't know.

Assuming that's an authentic and decent 20r, which is not a given from a shop, at 40 watts and that resistance you're pulling around18 amps which is kinda near the top of that battery's 20 amp cdr, but that shouldn't overheat even the battery, to say nothing of the mod and atomizer.

How warm do they get after one long pull?

BTW, brand new to you from a shop, doesn't take into account how long they've had it or how long and under what conditions it was stored along the way to them getting it. Also, fake batteries (and chargers) are common in shops too. The shop owners may not even know they're fake.

What's the id and # of wraps? are the coils too close to the cap? The X also looks to have a lot of heat retenstion maybe, with such a large post.

^^^^^^^^ This is what I thought, too. Coils too close to the cap, perhaps not enough air hitting coils to move heat.

Sorry don't mean to high jack this thread. I have the pulse x kit. Im also using the clear cap the battery I'm using is the ijoy 20700 3000mAh. My top cap also gets really hot but I was vaping on 90w about 3 or 4 long pulls and its hot enough to make a red mark on your skin! I believe its just where the coils are so close to the barrel its gonna get hot. I have a profile RDA on the way as soon as that bad boy gets here I'll be switching. Quick question, what would be the best coil wire to use with the pulse x RDA and the profile RDA?

The air flow is right in front of the coils. If the RDA was maybe a millimeter in diameter bigger I believe it would fix that problem. Or if the barrel had a different shape. Maybe a bad barrel design....

I think part of the problem with the pulse is that it is plastic. Plastic doesn't dissipate heat nearly as well as metal. Try setting your coils a little bit higher so they sit closer to the airflow. As to the body of the mod, I don't think there is much to be done about that. Unfortunately it is just the design.

I used that kit as an out of the house beater with an iJoy 20700 at 65 watts, it does get hot, but not enough that I'd worry that anything is going to melt. I have a lot of rda's and I'd put the X in the top 3 that I own for heat retention. I believe it's in the design of the post/deck, when you line your coils up square to the airflow, which gives you great flavor, you really get very, very little air movement under the coils. I've tried raising the coils, but the flavor is extremely muted.

Well officer, I got a 2 mm ID at 5 wraps and it's NiCh 80 25 awg wrapped with 30 awg just a twist not Clapton. When I a check her, she a tell me she run around at 0.30 ohms. that a for me is so nice too, I am a good boy, I like the 030 ohms.

are the coils too close to the cap?

Sir, is that some illicit agricultural treat I smell from your car? I mean honestly, I am only using the one coil and she a be pretty well down into the Gorge RDA. Found out I like wick getting juice quicker. Now, Do I gotta step outta my car for a whiz test and straight line walk?

Quick question, what would be the best coil wire to use with the pulse x RDA and the profile RDA?

I got a blog post with a list of wire. TEMCo a good name for wire is the title of the post. not hijacking you out of the thread, just pointing to relevant info. Understand too my notion of "best" wire is just that, a notion or opinion. You might find better and if you do give us all a holler back to let us know. :)

Maybe a bad barrel design....

So we stop buying crap shoot bad made RDAs. Companies start catching on quick. "Ah, customers no buy a these RDA. Let us send intern to ask why." ... "Intern says customer no like bad design RDA. Guess we need to design better."

Plastic doesn't dissipate heat nearly as well as metal.

*nods* Good thought & thinking there. Yet another reason I avoid plastic regulated mods and use metal mechanicals. Got one that has some plastic but it's still a semi-mech having only a mosfet next to the fire button as a safety.

or run a single coil

Or just use a higher ohm cooler build.

Shhh, hush both of you. We don't want the secret formula running loose and falling into the wrong hands. The adversity though is ... which hands are the wrong hands? ;) :)

This is most likely the best solution for the OP, IMO a .12 dual coil build is way too low for 20-40 watts, that’s a build suited for 100+ watts. I’m guessing long ramp up causing longer firing time than necessary and long cool down due to coil mass. Try a .3-.4 build, way better suited for 20-40 watts.
