30% Vape Tax Passes in Nevada

More info from the email:

"A massive 30% wholesale tax for vapor products in Nevada is being voted on at this very moment. If passed, SB 263 will cripple small businesses here in Nevada and increase pricing on a $140 vape hardware setup to $182. This major price increase will drastically reduce adult access to an affordable alternative to smoking. SB 263 will also define vaping devices as “tobacco products.”

Why you should care?
  • This bill was meant to curb youth vaping and basically price these devices out of their hands. Juul is currently the device of choice for underage persons and this bill would only raise the price of the device kit from $34.99 to roughly $44.99. The replacement Juul Pods would increase from $15.99 to roughly $18.99. This would hardly price them out of their hands.
  • This price increase will negatively affect adult smokers looking to make the switch and current adult vapers. It will reduce access to affordable “open” vaping systems drastically. A typical full vaping kit (including e-liquid) retails for $140. Under SB 263 this would raise to $182.
  • E-liquid pricing will be affected by this bill as well. A typical 100ml bottle costs $29.99 retail. It would cost $38.99 if this bill passes.
  • The less vaping products people buy, the less small businesses in Nevada prosper.

Bull, kids have the highest % of disposable income and 200.00 is in no way beyond their means. We've got kids in our small community that get more for their birthday than I make in 6 months. They don't pay for their phones, car or insurance, or clothes.

Would be interesting to know how much $$$ the crooked politicians are being paid by big tobacco to pass this kind of legislation. Unfortunately, this is happening all over the country and is the main reason I will be learning how to DIY real soon. I love my country but I damn sure hate the government.

No reasonable council would believe for one minute this would stop smoking. They literally just gave neighboring counties hundreds of thousands of their tax income.

I really don't understand it either, do they really fucking think that they will stop anything?! I think they should focus all these efforts into trying to end a real crisis like the opioid epidemic and leave us the fuck alone.

Of the assorted "crisis" (plural) at hand: tobacco, vaping and opioids are not even in the running.

<shrug> Politicians - get those reelection votes and donations now.
