Less than one month old Rebel DNA75C auto-firing

So far today, my less than 1 month old Rebel mod has auto-fired twice while just sitting unused on the table. Thank goodness I had it with me when it did, if I had left it at home unattended, could have been bad news.

The fire button isn't stuck. It's still quite clicky and does not stick when pressed.

What could cause it to auto-fire? Juice on the PC board? Should I try to open it up and fix it myself, or just open a ticket with the manufacturer and exchange/return it?

I have had dna 75 s auto fire
Both vt 75 nano vt 75 vt 75c all did this at one time or another.
although i had cleaned it all it happened randomly
Was told to strip the button on board,
It unhooks and take out the little round disc
this is what clicks within the button it needs cleaning
and needs to be concaved a little bit more
once this is done and reassembled it never auto fired again,
Strange since this was all 3 version of VT 75/ 75c mods,

It is the built in button on board,
simple to do although you think its ok
I did with mine but it randomly did auto fire

until this fix then never since,

I took it apart, it's been leaking from the peek insulator at the squonk pin. It pops right out of the base of the 510 connector. I cleaned it out and reassembled it, it hasn't auto-fired since. But I'm keeping an eye on it. Not sure if I should send it back to Esauce or Evolv, doesn't seem to be a problem with the board.

I'm going to tell you what I would do...warning this will be graphic ;)

First, remove said batteries and then break said mod down and remove the screen from the board... Fairly easy right?

Next is the scary part... wait for it lol

Submerge the mod in Iso-91-97% alcohol... yup just drop that bitch in... swirl it around... make sure the whole dirty bird is in the bath.

NEXT is the magic... air dry it...either by sitting there or with compressed air can from a few inches away... don't want the brute force of the tiny nozzle pop a resistor or a button across the room.

Then assemble said mod...enjoy.

ISo evaporates and displaces water, thins juice out and off the board...behind switches, remove particulates you can't see...

good luck, told you it was graphic ;)

This right here:
I would add, that it may be a good idea to wear medical gloves in order to ground yourself. Sounds weird and perhaps overkill, but all precautions are good.

Thanks Don. I just submitted a ticket to Evolv. I'll see what they say first before try anything.

I also need the 510 connector replaced. The spring loaded pin was leaking at the PEEK insulator, it just pops out of the 510.

I would also report it to Rebel mods.. it’s my understanding that they are a decent manufacturer

I would contact them for sure...although I wouldn't disclose you tore it down a bunch ;)

I'd just mentioned that the 510 peek got its butt pushed out, leaked and is now auto firing and would like a RMA.

Good luck!

What tear-down?

Yeah best option is Rebel mods,
sounds like faulty 510;
Causing leak. To board you found the problem,
Like you say its new so just Contact them to ship back as faulty,

Update: Rebel mods is sending me a new board & 510 assembly, and I can swap it out, much faster turn-around than shipping the mod back for them to do it. I can do the soldering and assembly no problem.

That is kind of scary.
I may have to try it because I have a DNA75 that autofires.
It's an old DNA75

The only component that might not do ok with the alcohol is the screen.

If you're uncomfortable dunking it... you can also use an old tooth brush and dunk the brush repeatedly into the ISO, then scrub around the switches.

Mods I've done this with thus far is a Pico Squeeze... just dropped the whole mod in and went to town.

Other was a VT133 (DNA200)... removed the screen... then just dropped it all into a bowl of ISO...scrubbed around the 510...switch areas... then let it dry for about 3 mins and put it back together.

Pico was auto firing and the VT 133 has a short I suppose in the 510 and was reading all wonky resistances...both working great and I did that to them at least 6 months ago or longer

Evolv issued me an RMA, they are going to replace the board & 510, clean it out, and send it back to me free of charge. Color me impressed with that level of customer service!

I've read good things about their CS, but don't get too excited: I've also read a few posts where they did diddly and sent things back in worse shape than when shipped.
