Can mixing 2 flavors mute both?

So I generally vape more sugary flavors. Caramel, cinnamon bun, sugar cookie, etc. Well I have some Harambe from Silver Back, and sea salt caramel (can't remember the company), but I mixed them thinking they'd produce a pretty good flavor. The Harambe is a sweet vanilla/nut tasting, and caramel is self explanatory, but mixed about 50/50, the taste is very bland. Like near no flavor at all. Is this a normal thing that can happen?

Sometimes, with some flavors, using a large amount of flavoring can actually result in less perceived flavor. In your case, we don't know the amounts (%) of flavor you used.

Just a possibility...

Did you steep before tasting? May simply need time to meld, I usually wait 10 days for caramels. FW salted caramel doesn’t shine for me until around the 5-6 week mark.

There are considerations with flavors there are naturally sweet and based off on example like Ethyl Maltol these properties I THINK tend to bind together and result muted flavors. Correct me if I´m wrong. But Give it a try everyday while steeping to take note the flavor each day. My flavors are starting to show after a good 5 day dark steep. AND stay between the recomended % of the brands and flavors you have. You are always free to experiment about the percentage just take note and learn the flaws. This is what I should say to myself when I got some few weeks of mixing.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that these two flavors we're pre-mixed flavors that I bought from a B&M. Already bottled. Each tasted as advertised separately, just bland together

Both are 70/30 if that makes any difference

Not much.

Let's say you are making 100mls of juice.

How many mls of your 70/30 are you adding?
How much (if any) of nicotine are you adding?
How many mls of total flavoring are you adding?

I'm not mixing each individual juice. I purchased these juices from my local vape shop. They're both 3mg nic. I didn't mix or add anything to each juice respectively, just mixed a small amount of two different juices together, thinking I'd like that flavor.

Then you just diluted each one. Combining two commercial juices doesn't always work out the same as it would if you diy the same flavors. Combining straight fruit juices will usually work better with commercial juices than dessert types.

Aha. Thank you. This kind of what I figured, but haven't started diy juices yet, so wasn't sure. I really need to get started on that.

Playing with mixing commercial juices is a good intro to diy, it just generally works better with fruits. If a juice isn't as sweet as you'd like add a few drops of a complimentary sweet juice until you find a good balance. I used to order single flavor juices to play with before diy.

Makes sense. I'll search around. I gotta find a good place to learn how to start the diy journey. Just for my knowledge though, if fruity flavors are referred to as sweet flavors, what would I describe flavors like caramel, chocolate, vanilla, etc? Are those generally just custard-type flavors?

That depends on what base those flavors are mixed with. Bakery, creams, custards, cheesecake, etc.

Is there a good thread on the basics? Or just grab some vg and pg and go to town? Lol

It's a good idea to find a couple recipes that look good to you and order those flavors. Or even easier is to just order a few one shots, these are the flavors of a recipe premixed and you just add pg, vg, and nic or a premixed nic base.
Save your commercial juice bottles to mix in and order a few small 10ml bottles for test batches.
You'll need a scale or syringes for measuring.

Even when mixing commercial e-Liquids you need to give it time to infuse. Just because you put two flavors together in what I do many times as a tank mix more often it needs time to meld or infuse. Just my thoughts because I didn't notice how long you left it for what others call steeping. I only steep a cup of tea not my e-Liquids. Good Luck~!
