Anyone tried mesh ribbon wire in the Wotofo Profile?

Hey guys, just picked up my Wotofo Profile today in slightly darker black. Loving it so far. Shallow juice well is a little bit of a bummer, but probably necessary to keep internal volume down to increase flavour.

I noticed Vandy Vape makes a mesh ribbon coil. Anyone tried this in the Wotofo Profile? It looks like it might work, but I wonder about wicking cotton across them jagged edges I imagine cutting the mesh ribbon would produce...

Let me know if you’ve had any luck with this, and if the result turned out better, more or less the same or worse than the original Wotofo mesh.

Stay frosty,

I haven't used that mesh but have tried a few different coils to see what I like best. So far, I prefer just a single coil, fused clapton, alien, whatever, and take the middle ceramic piece out. Best flavor I've had and fairly big clouds.

When I used the provided mesh in the profile RDA, I kept getting dry hits due to not wicking it perfectly. I had too much cotton more than likely and didn't trim it to what Wotofo recommends. Just my experience so far...

I use Vandy Vape SS316L mesh 200, It's wider than the the Wotofo Mesh so you can either cut it to length and width or just cut it to length and then notch the corners so it fits in the clamps. I've done it both ways. Yes, if you cut it width wise you will have one sharp jagged edge and it makes it more difficult to wick as it wants to grab the cotton. Leaving it wider almost doubles the surface area of the coil. As far as wicking goes, I use the Wotofo cotton 6mm but I cut 1/4 of it off length wise before wicking as it's way too much cotton. Once you thread it under the mesh cut the ends so the cotton will reach the bottom of the Juice well, Then cut again at a 45 degree angle, from the top of coil to the inside bottom edge.

If you cut the VV mesh both ways then wick it from the uncut side only and do not try and pull the cotton back and forth, Just run it through once so it's even then do final trimming.

I've tried the Kanthal mesh but prefer the SS mesh as I use it in TC and I prefer the 200 over the 400 mesh as I think the flavor is best with the 200. A roll of VV mesh @ 5 feet will give you roughly 95 pieces of mesh @16mm each and with your cotton the cost to re-wick each time will be about $0.45.

I've been getting 3 weeks + out of a coil using the SS mesh.

I got a pack of SS mesh when I bought mine from another member on here. Haven't tried it yet but definitely want to

Sweet! Thanks for the detailed report. Would you say the overall vape with SS mesh is more flavourful than Wotofo Kanthal mesh?

Flavor is great both ways, however when using SS in TC mode you can really fine tune it to whatever juice type you are using. If you are only using in Power mode the Kanthal is still good. Of course Flavor is subjective but for 5 bucks you can have tons of options.

Yeah the TC option is a big plus. Have you compared it to OFRF A1 mesh? Seems to have very fine holes.

I think I’ll give the SS mesh a shot though, I like the idea of having a whole roll on hand

I have not Tried the OFRF mesh as I only run in TC mode now. But I have heard from a few friends that it's great running in Power mode. The SS rolls are just so cheap it's well worth it to get some.

i just can’t figure out this rda

tried the original wotofo coils and their cotton and the nexmesh but get either flavorless or dry burnt hits so i gave up

might try a single coil instead of mesh and see how it goes

With the wotofo cotton I have to cut my down length wise a little bit. To make it a little less thick

Care to. Show closeups of your mesh build? Also have you primed your cotton and then broken it in? If the mesh curvature is even a tiny bit wonky you’ll notice hotspots while prime firing the wet cotton.

Are you combing out your cotton btw? I know Wotofo firebolt is already parallel threads but I combed mine out and my first build was smooth and flavourful. Dry hits came on suddenly though, so careful not to overwick.

Also be careful not to over stuff your cotton.

Are your mesh terminals lined up properly? Check that your posts are only gripping the edge of the mesh that’s designed to be held in place by the clamps and not the actual mesh. I’ve found that the radius isn’t quite right unless the mesh lines up perfectly with the clamps.

TL; DR

If mesh is too much trouble for you just stick with 3mm Nickel Claptons or aliens, they provide about 70% of the flavour of mesh. Maybe 80%.

Anyone tried 3.5mm builds on the profile? Tempted to give it a go.

I tried for the 2nd time playing with this RDA this morning after burning the cotton...again.

The provided cotton from wotofo was almost impossible to get in the deck. I used my own cotton bacon wick which was pretty good, but not nearly the earth shattering experience I've been hearing about. That went from a good vape to burned instantly, so I put it aside a few days ago.

Rewicked it this morning and same thing. Good, but not spectacular to burned. I'll probably play with it some more and I have some nexmesh on the way, but it's not really holding my attention. I put the Pulse 2 back on the pulse dual mod again and for me personally, it is just much better overall at this point.

Give it another go when the new mesh gets here. If it's still not for you I'm sure it'll sell in minutes here if that's something you end up doing. I cut the wotofo cotton length wise to lessen it. The install on side of the mesh. Then put the cotton under the mesh then install the other side of the mesh. Works pretty well. It just takes forever for the cotton to soak. When squonk I usually hold the bottle between 5and 10 seconds to make sure it's saturated.

I think we as vapers need to work out some kind of terminology for all of these styles of "Mesh". Or maybe it isn't up to us...The ones Wotofo makes aren't really mesh by definition. I see it in factory coils too. It's a solid strip with what looks like holes punched through it. Strip coil maybe? I've heard that term. Makes sense.
Then theres the dual, triple mesh coils that look like a spider web or something. Mesh to me is the stuff that looks like a screen.

Mesh-

1. material made of a network of wire or thread.
2. an interlaced structure.

Maybe I'm the only one this bothers. We cleary have three different styles of material. "Let just call it all mesh" is what was decided. I know the Wotofo ones atleast say Mesh Styled so that's good.

Oh I’m a terminology fan too. I like where your heads at fam.

I propose:

Mesh plates
Mesh coil or ribbon mesh
Mesh sheets

Most dual and triple should be called honeycomb mesh. The ones Ive seen look the same. Although that may not work. My Baby V2 triple mesh looks like what the old Cerakoat tanks had. The Sense Screen tank is the only one I know that has legit triple mesh coils. I'm over thinking this lol. I do like your suggestion for sheet mesh.

Just saw a very good YouTube video last night from Wendy Vapes. The Wotofo mesh didn't give her any issues but she found one that seems to be burning up the cotton, literally burning....As in a little flame. I'd suggest anyone using mesh to watch it. There's a place on hers that seems to hotspot and another reviewer went into great detail on wicking mesh. She still has the issue as she knows her vapes.
Worth a watch on mesh attys. I'm sticking with my coil wires for now. Maybe it's a QC issue with the type being questioned. I have no clue.

Can you explain what you mean by mesh ribbon coil?
upload_2019-1-17_9-33-53.png

If this is what you are talking about, then yes. I have had great results with it. I kept one of the original precut mesh sheets that came with the profile and use it to cut about 3 or 4 off of here at a time to the same size. Haven't had any issues at all.

Brilliant! So good to know. I’ve got two rolls on order from GeekVape. An SS roll and an Ni80 roll. Let the games begin.

I just ordered the SS too, I am worried it is going to heat up way too fast. The Ni80 I have gets ramped up quick and my Recurve is a mech mod firing @80w, I don't think I am going to need SS.

I believe Ni80 ramps up fastest of all between A1 and 316L. I think if anything you may have a different taste with SS mesh vs. Ni80, but i don’t think it’ll ramp up any faster. Could be wrong.

I believe that my SS fused clapton heats up much faster than my regular clapton wire because the resistance is higher, but that might not make much of a difference in mesh. I am thinking the taste will be a little crisper with the SS.

So after a couple of weeks on the same cotton and mesh I switched it out and decided to try the NexMESH I got in the mail. Not impressed. Doesn’t have a fraction of the flavour I got from my Nichrome mesh. I also got a roll of SS mesh, tried that too. Not impressed. The best results I’ve gotten so far have been with nichrome mesh. Maximum flavour, normal clouds

I'm using some of the Vandy Vape Kanthal roll on 3 Profiles at the moment. I like it better than the stock mesh. It's also the same resistance as the NexMesh but a hell of a lot cheaper.
I'm going to grab some of that Nichrome you're talking about and give it a try also.
I also get 2 weeks use out of the same cotton or rayon. I have had the same mesh strip in one of my Profiles for around 6 weeks.
I just clean it when rewicking. Going to see how far I can push it. I only vape them at 40 to 45 watts so maybe another 6 weeks?
Thanks for the tip on the Nichrome

With the Nichrome mesh I can push it up to 60, 65W without burning, but it doesn’t really give you more flavour. 48-50W is the sweet spot.
