Question on velocity decks and coil placing.

I mean the decks with the two posts with 2 terminals per post. Like rabbit ears when looking from the side.

So, when putting one coil in and placing I can easily clip the leads off, but as many people know when putting in the second one I can clip one lead with my wire clippers but the second one (the one on the bottom terminal underneath where the first coil is placed), is impossible to clip due to the deck and the above said coil being in the way.

Is there some trick I'm missing? I really would prefer not to take the first one out to clip it or clip either of them beforehand.

Also, would it be bad or cause a short if I just clipped it as best I could and left whatever left over hanging there or bent out of the way; sure not to touch any metal? Seems like a bad idea to me.

I find that pulling the lead to the side to leave it exposed helps simplify clipping. And, you have 2 concerns:
  • Snagging the wicking
  • shorting to the housing/deck
Everything else will be aesthetics. If you still have issues snagging the wick, you can usually use tweezers to 'shove' the bit you can't cut off against the post.

You can get some flush cut snips for a couple fo dollars on Amazon. While they dont cut completely flush it does get it close enough to not have to do anything weird.

Use a coil tool (pic below). It allows you to prevent the coil from getting bent out of shape as you bend the legs of the coil in such a way that they can be (re)inserted effortlessly into the postholes after you clip them so clipping them before you mount them won't be a problem; you can hold the legs against the posts to picture into your mind the correct leg length so that you can more easily just eyeball it after that... this method becomes second nature in virtually no time, making every other method feel completely weird and cumbersome, and besides, having a coil tool on hand also lets you more easily position your coils how you want them to be positioned.
