Cotton goes brown immediately

I use a deadrabbit rda, with dual 0.2ohm staple staggered fused clapton from UD KA1, which ohm at 0.114. My cotton seems to get used up really fast ( 1-2 days ) is this common? I also get spitback alot of the time.

I use cotton bacon prime with nk100 sour sweet juice, and a Smok alien 220 on ca 75-100w with dual Sony 18650's.

I'm new to vaping on a RDA, so any tips regarding my issues, or other helpful tips would be highly appreciated.

Unless the taste goes off, you don't have to change the cotton because of color.

I have noticed CB Prime goes off a little faster than V2 - but not 1 or 2 days

I see a lot of people complain about spit back from UD coils

Welcome to VU and to vaping. It is completely possible that your e-liquid is just a dirty one and depending on what wattage you are vaping at it is entirely possible that is a normal function. What liquid are you using and what wattage are you vaping at? As for the spit back are you stuffing the coils to death? Can we see a photo of your build? That would help get you sorted.

I'm using naked100 sour sweet 70/30, currently vaping at 75w, i get less spitback then.

I'll steer away from those coils next time then. Probably gonna try making my own from KA1 24 or 26 gauge wire.

Welcome to VU btw

Set it up with fresh cotton today, already after ca 7 hrs, it's gone brown and has a little burnt taste after a 3 sec hit. Checked for hot spots before replacing cotton, nothing i could see. Not sure whether these coils are just bad, or if im doing something wrong when putting in the cotton..

Brown cotton is nothing to worry about, burnt taste is

How did you clean the coils before rewicking?

This is with completely new coils. Tried cleaning my old coils, just firing them and then rinse them while they are somewhat hot, and then i pulse it until all the water has evaporated. But had the same issues as with the completely new coils, slight burnt taste.

One of two things, or possibly both

Too much cotton or wattage too high

When you wick, the cotton should be thick enough to make some resistance when pulling it through the coil, but be able to pass through with just tweezers without having to hold the mod down. You might also want to thin out the tails after fluffing to encourage wicking of juice from the well, rather than total saturation

Vape it at the lowest wattage that you can that still gives you the type of vape you desire

Thanks, I'll attempt to do less cotton, and start with less wattage and work my way up. I usually got it at 75-85w, as the ramp up time with anything less is insane.

You might see if the preheat function on the Alien works - heats it faster on startup but allows you vape at a lower wattage

I have no idea if it works well on your mod though

Most times by the time I get around to changing a wick it is BLACK and inside a large lump of crud that has a coil hidden at the center. Brown happens after a tank full.

Those brown edges are from the heat in the top cap. Less sweet juices would help but raising the resistance of your build would help more.

Yeah, my plan is to raise the resistance to 0.4 or around there. Was thinking of buying a roll of 24 gauge kanthal and make them 0.8 each, unless any of you got something else to recommend.

I personally would prefer 26g or 28g for faster ramp, 26 is easier for me to work with. My go to is ss these days, my fruits just seem to taste better. Favorite wire is AVS tri core parallel fc ss 316l.

On the spit back...
That's usually not enough cotton in the coil, doesn't seem to be your problem.
Not enough power to vaporize, may not be your problem.
If wicking and power are correct, it could be the coil just sitting too high.
I have the DRsq and the placement for best flavor and no spit back was to run the coil a few MM's lower than manufacturer suggested. I mount the coil as low as possible and pull it up a MM or two off the deck. Zero spit back.
The coil needs to stay in the path of airflow so think of that when pulling the coil up, as low as it can run while still being in direct shot of the path of airflow.
And place the coils as far outboard as possible without touching the topcap.
