Hi Folks,

Being this area was created by the community for the community, the challenge team invite your feedback over each of the challenges and our approach in each so we can take learnings and improve as we go, please drop your thoughts below :) we’ll sticky this so it’ll be easy to find for everyone.

If you can just tell us which challenge you are referring to that will help us, or if it’s just a general observation feedback.

We are keeping something our side along the lines off..

What went well.
What didn’t go so well.
What could be done differently.

If your prefer to give us feedback privately instead please PM any of the team with a VU challenge badge and well capture it in our team area.

We can’t promise we’ll act on all of it, but will certainly discuss it and accommodate if it’s feasible.

Anyway the floor is yours

Well I love the challenges. The beater mod challenge was fun. Good to see all the beaters that noone hand checks because we always check the shiny stuffs.

The you watt challenge is very cool also. Gives a lot of insight to how other members vape. I just assume all clouds except for Andria D. But it's great that new builders are looking at the challenge as well. Seems there are a few that are getting something from it for sure. I think the challenge team did a great job of setting both of these up. Helps you meet and interact with members I just see in passing by certain threads. Great job guys and gals

(Stretches legs out) Another sucessful challenge completed. Big thanks to everybody involved and to our sponsors.

Not much to gripe about on the 20+ active members involved, but wonderin a bit about the other members not involved or spectating. This is in no way a put down to those members just spectating, but I guess I was hopin a bit for some non active posts.

I admit, 2 weeks before the challenge came up I was all about factory coils and swore never to do those "complicated" RTAs and RDAs. While I did creep into the challenge, I felt relieved that experienced members werent doin RDAs just for those humongus clouds. Their is are so many variations to building and vaping I was able to cut loose a bit and bought up 3 RTAs during that challenge. Even if I never got into coil buildin I imagine I still would have gotten involved and said something.

In short, if a challenge is something that may be limited to a specific group of people, I would like to see a way to get others not in that group to get a chance to get involved somehow. Not that I think there was any reason to stop people from postin, but maybe a bit more encouragement to get involved. Sorry, not tryin to rant or be disrespectful to anybody. These challenges are awesome and everybody involved. I am just tryin to put more emphasis on a way to get everybody involved even if its not their thing.

I think it was to maybe try to bring people out of their comfort zone. Like you for instance. Strictly tanks until this challenge. Now you've stepped into rtas. Which is great. You'll find you can get so much more out of your vape building yourself. Not restricted to .15, .2, .6 and 1.0 ohm coils. If .19-.23 is your best vape. You can do it. I went the wrong way about it because I didn't know any better and my second mod was a 18650 tube mech. No business having it. Someone gifted me a patriot rda with one coil installed. I felt like a rocket scientist when I installed the second coil and it worked. I was all about building coils. But stayed with single wire 26g kanthal for a year or so. Then I got on here in 2015 and started seeing all these awesome builds. It wasn't until late last year or so I bought my first drill. A regular Clapton was too hard but somehow I figured out fused claptons. It really comes down to chasing the vape dragon per se'. I wish my style was still single wire builds when this challenge came up. We all knew the juice guzzling builds would be here. I think everyone was looking for the single wire builds and such. But glad that you took interest in the building side of it. So many ways this can become a hobby versus just vaping. Just another smoking cessation that's proven to work time and time again. For me it's about Idol Hands. I'm always tinkering and not thinking about all the other crap I could be doing. Really sorry for this book. Just got home working my wife's shift and getting ready to head back out to my job shortly. Anywho. Thanks again to the challenge team for putting this together. Always a good time. And thanks to all the sponsors as well.
Edit: on a back note some people just want to vape. Not worry about it or have time to do the extras. I always say "you make time for what you enjoy." And shit ask my wife, I'm right 8 out of 10 times.

Our aim was exactly as Wtmke1 said, bring people out of their comfort zone a little and get involved, perhaps learn some new skills, gain some knowledge and meet new people...some of them will be geared towards different aspects of vaping so we can challenge on that basis.

we try to make them as engaging and far reaching as possible @OmagaWright , for instance leaving it open so everyone can share their builds and Vaping styles and respecting how others vape.

A building challenge will naturally attract builders who as a hobby love showing what can be done with a bit of practice

One of our winners this month sticks to simple builds which is testiment to what we were trying to achieve. Our hope in time is we can grow the area as a social hub which is what these are about, they aren’t a contest and case of who’s best but rather work together to achieve the goal.

We have a challenge starting this week which every single person on the forum could get involved in, and the next two after that in fact.

We also have a mixing challenge coming up next year so we are trying to reach out to as many different groups as possible, best way for something like this to grow is organically through word of mouth bring your friends in the forum let them know it’s here and that we are doing this all as a community :)

Hope that makes sense :)

There are always going to be segments of the community that only show up for topics that interest them. This is just how society flows. IMO just getting people to clicK on to see what the challenge is about is great for pulling them out whether they participate or just lurk. Forgot what our view count was but I was pleased with the numbers.

At the time of postin I too just got done with a 12 hour shift, and after 3 hours of sleep back at it again today and not much better off lol.

Lots to agree with here. I guess what Letitia said pretty much summed up the answer I was lookin for. There are goin to be groups of people that stay in their own section and/or only make time for what interests them. For me, I see how many are active at a time on the forums, but see only a handful get involved one way or another. I know the challenges are open and welcome to all but I guess I had the expectation to really see these fly off the handle. And it shows from the replies (wish I could see those views). Sorry, not tryin to rough anybody up, I just tend to be a bit too passionate about gettin people active and excited like I do.

You have to understand that we who enjoy vaping forums are a very small segment of the vaping population overall. Those of us who enjoy the hobby side are an even smaller population. Your enthusiasm is refreshing to see but maybe rein in your expectations to avoid disappointment.

It’ll grow I’m sure once we can tap into different pockets of the forum and demonstrate the challenge team are facilitating and giving back to the community (the team was formed with members of different backgrounds and skillsets primarily those who wanted to see our community thrive)

Both challenges so far have gained over 5K views and held around 400 replies, which to put it into perspective is more than many of the contests we see hosted on VU...not at all bad considering we are still relatively in the infancy stage.

I guess some folks are wary of the potential cop aspect with the challenge team, but this isn’t our intention other than where necessary to steer it back on track. The team is really there so we can run things smoothly and bring you new content but really something like this project takes the whole community to make it work

We each get out what we put in just as all things.

I think these challenges are great!! Obviously I am a bit bias since the latest one was right up my alley. But honestly, the first one wasn't ... I am not a hardware hobbyist, though I could be easily lol. Most of my love for having hardware is my need to chase my perfect vape. And yet I could participate in that one as well and it was fun to see all the well loved gear even though that's not really my thing. Now, there's only been 2 challenges so the sample size is small ... but here's my 2 pennies.

The good -

So far every challenge has been accessible to all members. Yes they have been directed at a more specific group of people, but not exclusive to them. I didn't see anything in the latest one that truly pigeon-holed anyone into only being a builder. i.e. Didn't see any rules against pre-fab coilheads/Pod systems/ ect ...

The challenges have sparked discussions about related things that have been informative and/or helpful to new and veteran vapers alike. I saw people talking about how good mods were and why you should get one. I saw people learning from the watt challenge left and right.

I mean who doesn't like free shit?!?!?

Could be improved -

Not sure how this could be accomplished ... But people seem to be missing the rules (or maybe ignoring them?). At the moment the fix has been to push them a bit for more info after they post. But it would be nice for it to flow more smoothly without all the intermittent "Give us more!". Perhaps that's more of an OCD thing on my end. But it's a thought.

I would think there would be more participation considering the awesome free stuff for very little work. And the amount of freebies is kind of insane. Most giveaways are like 1 person wins out of hundreds or thousands. But this is 9+ people win ... Do we maybe think people aren't aware of how good the prizes are and how easy the challenges actually are? idk if that's true or not ... but it's the only I can think that would keep people from spending a couple mins to maybe get a free Mod or RDA or whatever.

That's all I really have for now. Not a ton to go on from only 2 challenges so far. But I don't see any major glaring errors yet.

Thanks for putting everything in perspective. I'll try to curb my enthusiasm a bit (its tough, I love what I do) and there are no disappointments from me whatsoever. Lookin forward to see the next challenge.
Don't curb your enthusiasm, revel in it!!! Just don’t expect as many to share the same enthusiasm.

I think as more challenges are posted the rules will be followed more closely as some will learn the bare bones might not get you into the rolls. As far as prizes, they are just a perk and not the goal. Our goal is becoming a more interactive community overall. We saw so many topics in the you watt challenge that was unthought of useful info for all vaping styles. As you said it sparked discussion which is something we love to see.

Thanks for the feedback WPMac :)

We’ve discussed at length on the rule thing and how best to maintain throughout without having to repeat ourselves.

have you got any suggestions about how this could be accomplished? we’d like to keep it free flowing as well.

In an ideal world people entering would read post 1, but we have seen this doesn’t happen so at the moment steering and repeating the opening post at points is what we came up with....we could just leave it until the end and not say anything that would mean people risk missing out though :(

In terms of engagement one of the thing we did see is people can’t necessarily locate the area easily with taptalk, if this is true we need more feedback on this

That is true for active members who are community focused. But the prizes attract others and then we can groom them, so to speak, to become part of the community ;)
Lol good point. We women do so love to do that.

I don't like the idea of leaving it out completely. When I was new I wouldn't have understood some of what we were asking for. I am open to not asking more from those we can infer/know are being just plain lazy. That would have eliminated some of the prompts but also would have left the team exposed to being accused of foul play.

I Admined, not a word i know lol, a highly active (thousands of daily users) gaming forum for many years. I know what kind of a PITA it can be to deal with all this crap lol. Sometimes the answer is - "People are people and we do our best with them" lol

Reposting the OP was a good work around. But, if your going to use that then it would really need to be reposted every new page or 2. Most users aren't going to look past the last page. Some will go back a page or so. The ones who are going back much more than that are likely the ones who are going to do it right and aren't the targets for needing this.

I Don't use my phone for forums. As a matter of fact I don't use my phone for anything I don't have to. I prefer a PC and a keyboard. So idk anything about tapatalk other than I tried to use it once and it linked to my google account and that's not the email I used to sign up for the forums. So I deleted it immediately lol.

We women do so love to do that.
It's that maternal thing ;)

We are somewhat platform limited, ideally I’d sticky the 1st, 2nd post to every new page but I don’t have that option....we could manually do it though (perhaps incoperate a standard message with a see here) <link opening post url> So it doesn’t take up too much space

Despite this if the team see the challenges split away from the rules we will intervene (derailing for instance)

This was primarily what I was goin for give and take. Great incentives , why not jump on in? @WPMac well said.

As for the rules, is it possible for people to access the rules thread in an easy access area. Put a link at the end of the thread, which links to the discussion thread somewhere inaccessible by normal means. That way folks would have no choice but to read the rules (or at least skim over them) before they can post/read the main thread.

Or just check mark rules read and post. At some point someone who wants free stuff has to be adult enough to read the fine print so to speak. Just don't want members that don't fully understand what's required left behind.

As you said before ... it should be pretty easy to root out who is just being lazy and who is genuinely misunderstood. I'm not saying to completely shut down anyone who doesn't do it right. But it was obvious last time around people who just threw out some stuff because they either didn't read the OP or didn't care but just wanted in on the prize pool.

Well, the Wotsit challenge I believe is the first one I have joined in on. I am having a great time and what you all are doing is fantastic. People get to laugh a little together and maybe get to know one another just a little more. I could care less about the prizes ( lol well, okay mostly ) Sure, who doesn't like to win something right? But it's so much more than that for me. What you are also doing as stated above, getting people to try new things and expand. Plus for those of us that don't go away from home much (for whatever reason) medical, anxiety........etc etc. I'm just a little less lonely with these challenges and joining in. WELL DONE VU TEAM...........

I'm having a ball just participating! I've enjoyed seeing what people have posted in previous challenges, learning more about other vapers I may, or may not, run into daily. It's been a ton of fun. The occasional riff happens, but I really appreciate those getting shut down quickly, too. People are gonna chat a bit, that's human nature, and usually all in fun kinda banter, but as long as they don't get so far off track that we forget what it's all about... all good. Really great stuff.

Good job Challenge team <3:pizza:

Been loving the Wotsit challenges. . Each clue reminds me of something familiar, but figuring it out and piecing it together is whats actually fun. Good way to work together and discuss on those super hard ones.. and also to see there are year and years of designs (mod, RDAs, RTDA, RTA, etc..) out there.

I had an amazing time and I hope that more people will come and join for the next one! Plus, I have to say it again...........Thank you to all those that are putting these together. It takes a special kind of person to do that. I feel fortunate to be able to get to know some of them a little better.
