It's wicking fine then floods
Ahhh yeah needs a tad thicker wick or thicker juice... I would guess, never had mine flood at all.
Sorry

What wicking material are you guys using?
@ajvapes sometimes just reducing af can combat flooding.

That could be a difference, i generally stick with senshido pads. Also have the airflow about 1/3 turned down.

Might try a scottish roll style wick, tails are fluffier without actually being thicker. Same would be true with the annealed wicks like COTN threads.

I have a sample pack of COTN, I'll try it on the next build....

I think the problem is that at 3mm you cant get enough cotton for the sides without over stuffing the coil. How wide do you cut the pads?
Lol, I do something similar to that roll thing that Letitia mentioned.

Have you tried 3.5mm, I tried 4mm but is way too big. Not quite sure what a Scottish roll is.
I didn’t like the 3.5mm it felt like it cut off the airflow a little too mich for my liking.

They work well for me using a 3mm. Especially good for a damming style of wick.
I don't pull it as thin as he does. It really does work well.
Hooray for japanese cotton and the scottish roll (I tried pushing Sean Connery down the hill, but...not what you meant. :p ) 3mm twisted clapton @ .38 ohm. Running TC @235 degrees C. This is an animal....

Thanks to @Letitia9 and @f1r3b1rd for the wicking advice... I changed the coil back to the tri core clapton. Wicking similar to f1r3b1rd , cutting the ends to a point and back cutting the inner half to sit just above the slots...working fine now...Waiting for replacement glass for the intake to compare.

It is not for a noob or faint at heart, my only complaint. The previous build worked for half a tank and then flooded.
Really curious as to how the intake stands up to this. The only complaint I had with the intake is the availability of glass for it.

I haven’t used the intake. The only other top airflow tank I’ve used was the engine. But I can’t really compare the two much since that was a dual coil.
-if I had to compare, the elevate would win in flavor. Especially with a single parallel build.

When I broke the intake I considered the dead rabbit but using it as a single coil did not look practical on that deck, the engine nano is unavailable and the elevate seemed the logical pick. I still use my Avocado 24 as a single coil, does everything well.

Ahhh, I was never a fan of the avocado. To clarify: it vaped really well! However, whenever I put in my lap, it would leak everywhere; hence, it got shelved and eventually given away. The 22 was a great flavor machine though.

I have both and another on the way... the secret to the avocado is to dam the holes with little penetration...

My mods live in my lap most of the day; so, I just decided against rdas for a good long while.

I did find the alpine from sybthetiCloud and the Faris from wotofo to both be 2 exceptions to that rule. Neither have leaked on me and both offer fantastic flavor and vapor production.

I guess I got proficient with after the first year, also the only one I couldn't break.

Now that I have received the replacement tanks for the Intake I thought I might do a short comparison. Both are well made, as to appearance the Elevate is "badass". The decks are another matter. The Elevate is tighter limiting the coil size you can use and I found wicking to be tricky. The Intake is a dream to build and wick...Airflow is about the same with a slight edge to the Intake. As to flavor I found the serpent to be slightly muted and at times a little wet. the Intakes flavor is above par, the best I have found on a single so far..I will keep trying to tune the serpent and if a large improvement is found, I'll mention it here,.

My first two builds and wicks worked well in the intake when I raised the coil a smidge. Changed it up a bit and both went to hell. Haven’t gotten around to tweaking yet. Elevate will be here this week. Looking forward to comparing the nano, jk mini, intake, and elevate in rotation.

Love my Intake. I think Mike said to keep the coil close to the air holes. Never had a problem, right now I have an messy coil Ijust through in and it sill works great. I still have high hopes for the elevate. let me know how the serpent works out...

Shameless cross post.
New
So woke up at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep and decided to set up the elevate. Used the included coil and snipped at the recommended 6mm (love the coily tool). Gave the included wick a go and it was a bit tighter in the coil than I usually use but decided to leave it as is; thinned the tails out, trimmed the sides off and trimmed the remaining to barely tuck into the ring. Had more wick in the ring than I wanted so I just snipped off some just below the shoulder (like a damming wick). Settled in with af about 1/3 closed and a medium bore 510. Flavor was very good, did get some minor spitback. Will play more with wattage when I get home but suspect too much wick in the coil itself. Thinking it will be a keeper. My juice didn't taste over flavored like it does in the juggerknot mini but that may change with better wicking. Either way first impressions are good and can see the elevate finding a place in the daily rotation. Juice is a pineapple/green apple and not sweet.

I trimmed the cotton until it slid thru the coil with some resistance but not tight...

Tried 5 different wickings.. One with the included coil and the other 4 with 3mm aliens from coiology... All 5 of them resulted with a lot of juice in my mouth... Tried less cotton, more cotton, 40 watts, 45, 50, 55 always the same a lot of juice in my mouth... And it's not my first rta... I am currently using two (2) smm's from the day they went out, with the same coils (coiology aliens) all day (different juice each) never had any issue.... Even with the kylin mini Rta which had a bit of tricky wicking method, everything was fine..... ,. I have just made an identical build in both the smm and the elevate and juice again..... Any suggestions appreciated guys!!!!!

I’ve found the thinner the wick tails the better and slide them down to just at the top of the wick ring.

Also I keep the top of the wick nice and thick.. think broad shoulders and thin tails

Still can't seem to get this right. I have done the wicking like your photo and it spit and flooded. Nice coil btw.
Wat wattage are you vaping at?
54w
It’s 30x4/40 Clapton -as parallels with 26g kanthal.
Comes out to 0.2ohm exactly

I got only minor spit back, wick was a touch too tight in the coil. Still have the ni80 included coil installed. Like mentioned above, thick shoulder, thin tails. It's a tweaker but worth it.

I'm thinking this atty runs a little too warm for me. Am thinking of doing some mods, like closing off thenjuicen slots a little and opening up the side air holes a bit....just a thought. Still have muted flavor, using sour berry w/ menthol juice. Can't taste the berries on the serpent but comes thru fine on the intake...YMMV

I found problem, I plugged one of the side air ports on the deck therby increasing the bottom airflow. Insane flavor now...

I can taste all elements of my juice. The SMM didn't provide that for me, muted flavor regardless of coil or wick. Just proves the glorious subjectivity of vaping. It's what keeps the conversation so interesting. ;)

Different strokes for different folks...

Hi. I have tried many times, try more and with less cotton, different coils, but when I close the lid it generates pressure and floods the deck. What I can do? I apologize, my desepero made me enter to forums of other countries and I am using google translator.
