I’ve been using replaceable coils for a while now and finally got the courage to order my first RDA. Have a Drop Dead arriving this week with some Ohm Science Coils and Firebolt Cotton. Bought a coil master kit from MyVaporStore. Just wondering if there was anything else I needed or any suggestions you all have to make. Thanks

Welcome, and good choice!

I'd suggest you watch a video or three of how to install coils, how to check for shorts, how to wick properly, all that jazz. Then you'll be off to the races!

Thanks. I’ve been doing all the research I can to be honest. Just trying to get a gauge on how I started and get some tips from some experience builders.

Oh yeah, Steamengine.org is a great resource - the Vape Tool mobile ap ap is also really nice for planning builds (a bit more intuitive to use than steamengine)

Your using a regulated mod that you use with your replaceable coils.........?
Which mod(s)?

@Vape Fan I’ll be using a Voopoo Drag as soon as I get it in from Breazy. If anything I’ll also be using it on a Pulse 80 Squonk by Vandy if I decide to go that route as well

You might want to think about a dual battery squonker for a dual coil RDA. You can run a dual coil RDA on a single battery squonker but even with my 21700 on the pulse X it eats through the battery life like nothing with a dual coil. Generally you want a battery per coil.

Or you could pick up a single coil RDA. I'd suggest the Hermetic by SMM/Blitz. This vid is what convinced me to buy it and everything he says is spot on! Flavor is sooo good. Better than any other RDAs I have of this size (and I have like 10 good flavor chasing ones).

I think a nice big 510 steel block to build on is helpful and a coil brush as well. There's one on Amazon that's $5 and it's also one of those 5 in 1 coil rods that tapers and steps down to diff coil IDs. For the 510 block I got the nice big stainless steel one by coil father on fasttech. Something nice and heavy like that with about that height would be good.

I also picked up some fiskar scissors on Amazon ($8 on sale ATM.. very fancy high end brand and super sharp) and some nice pointy ceramic tweezers. I haven't got the tweezers yet but they look small enough to be able to be able to intricate coil work which is what I was looking for. The default ones are good for pinching contact coils but that's about it. Here's a link:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0754K9CNT/ref=sxts_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1542119428&sr=1

Also I'd pick up a few Ssung 20S' (true 30A 2000mAh battery) and build for heat flux and surface area over JUST resistance. You just take the heat flux and multiply it by the wattage you're running at. For a mech mod use the battery section (input your battery settings via the custom add section if need be) and out in your resistance. Then scroll to the bottom to get the wattage and use that one to get your heat flux. I like around 280-320. Average is 150-250.

I don't know why people always have to make this so complicated. It's not that complicated.

The heat flux is just helpful to get an idea of how to build a coil with a similar warmth that you prefer using a different gauge wire. Or if you want the same vape you normally get but using a different resistance than you've been building at. It's particularly helpful for mech mods as you can't adjust the wattage, only the build.

So for those that have answered and it slipped my mind when I posted originally. How long do the coils typically last? The cotton?

Typically, over a month, or 2. Wicking lasts me about 4-5 days. A $5 bag of Cotton Bacon Prime has lasted about 6 months.

Well now that I’m finally home, I got this RDA coiled and wicked.

I 100% agree. I’m not even close to having the confidence to stretch and wrap my own coils for now I’ll be using pre built Ohm Science coils and pre-wrapped strands from them as well (They were free from Myvpro). Got my Drop Dead all setup this afternoon when I got home from my trip and have been happily vaping on it. Can’t believe it took me this long to realize how much better the hit and the flavor is over what I was using. Don’t think I’ll ever be going back.
