Brands of flavoring that dont taste like cleaning chemicals???

I am VERY sensitive to the chemical taste that I find in 99% of the liquids I've tried. Before this stuff was availabel in stores, I mixed my own Mango juice but cant remember where I got it from.

Form the little bit I read...Hangsen makes a good Mango flavoring but I would like someone who has the smae taste issues as me to chime in on what brands of flavoring are best for a TRUE fruit flavor and NO CHEMICAL AFTERTASTE?!?!?!

I've been vaping cinnamon pear for 4 years now and need to make a change. The only reason I havent changed is bc I cant find anything that doesnt have a nasty aftertaste and I'n not willing to fork out hundreds of dollars trying hundreds of diff flavors. I just want to make one or two, maybe three flavors myself and be done with it.

Is Hangsen good? What other flavor manufacturers would you recommend.

I do realize this info is likely on this board somewhere but I dont have 40 hours to read through a bunch of contradicting info that will leave me dazed and confused!

Thanks a million, in advance!!!

Well, I can't help but wonder why you posted the exact same post twice, but I *can* tell you that *probably* @The Cromwell could advise you; he's one of those annoying "supertasters" who taste chemicals in lots of stuff that nobody else does. And he's a pretty cool guy to talk to in any case. Since I tagged him, he might be along shortly, and might be able to help.

Welcome to VU!!
Andria

ETA: cinnamon might be a hard one -- anything with cinnemaldehyde ("redhot") tastes like scorched metal to me -- but there are a couple of *real* cinnamon flavors you might care to try -- TFA's Cinnamon Spice, and FlavourArt's Cinnamon Ceylon -- I've tried the TFA Cinnamon Spice, and just taste cinnamon, not that icky burnt metal taste.

Thanks for the intro Andria.
Yep the majority of flavorings either taste horrible or cause me physical irritation in mouth, throat and lungs...

Sorry tried a few Mangos and gave up. did not find anything that worked for me.
Have big problems with most melons and tropicals.

Golden pineapple by CAP is not so bad.

The real problem here is that taste is so subjective and even us super tasters don't always agree

For instance, I dislike mango anything - even a ripe from the tree mango - so I can't even point you in a direction of a "possible-maybe"

Also, the type of wick, the type of coil and the amount of heat you vape with can make any flavor change or bring out undertones you might not notice in one vape but will in another

The balance of PG/VG also influences flavor, as does the amount and quality of your nic

Hangsen is not super popular with most diehard DIY enthusiasts - I've never tried even one myself. But you never know, could be just the ticket for you

First off, I guess the reason there are two posts is because when I first posted it loaded a page that said I do not have permission to post, so I tried it again and it registered that it was posted... SO I apologize for overposting as I didnt think the first time went through! Damn Newbs!!!

I am tired of the cinnamon. The only reason I use it is because it is so strong that it masks the chemical aftertaste.

@The Cromwell .. I'd be interested in other flavors you like simply based on your sensitive tastes. I am a chef and very sensitive to bad taste...my poor wittle tongue cries when it's mistreated. I will certainly try the Golden Pineapple and will start reading your posts immediately after this!

I'm ordering a crap load of flavors from Bull City (just found them on here)...seems like they have a good rep on here and have an extensive list of available flavorings.

Could you maybe recommend or steer me away from any nicotine concentrate or VG/PG that you think is better than others?

Thanks again!!!

SHEESH.... I wanted this to be easy, lol. I have a Plato Aspire running 1.8ohm Nautilus coils at 13watts that I've been using for about 4 years. Due to the pressure of friends, I just bought a Flux subohm..no idea what the coils are or anything else as I just bought it but I do know that vaping at 40/60 watts chokes me and feels like I'm drowning in vapor. I'm not looking to be a fog machine, I just NEED the nicotine and would like it to taste yummy.

currently using 18mg Cinnamon Pear... Got a bottle of RIPE Peachy Mango Pineapple that's 3mg nic and no matter how hard or long I puff on it, Icant get the nic I NEED to calm my nerves from quivering.

yeah... so I thought I should mention the high nic needs and what devices I have in case that inspires additional advice.

You guys are great!!

Each of the flavor manufacturer has their good and bad flavors. Hangsen Mango flavoring is pretty good. BullCity Flavors sells a brand called Super Concentrates or SC. Their mango is really good. You can research flavors or recipes at a number of places. You're going to have to put in the effort to see which ones you might potentially like. I read the DIY sections here, at E-Liquid-Recipes.com , Reddit DIY, and All the Flavors. Only you know what you like vaping.

I'm placing an order with Bull City...

Mango's... FA, HS, TFA
Sweet mango... CAP
Ripe Strawberry...TFA
Double Watermelon...CAP
Pina Colada...INW
Golden Pineapple...CAP

I guess I'll add the SC Mango but being that it is from China, I was afraid of chemical taste

I ordered 1L VG, 1L PG and 120ml of 100mg nic in 50/50 from Heartland Vapes.

I'll do 70/30 mixtures both ways ...heavy PG for my 1.8ohm and heavy VG for my sub ohm

Does this sound realistic for a starting point?

So the main thing I need to know now is... What is the nic ml to vg/pg in order to achieve 15mg nic in end result? I'm going to search for a thread on here that talks about that... it's just so much easier to ask her than to spend hours reading threads (lazy and short on time).

Please post results after trying. I am curious if any others have similar results with many flavorings.

I use 50/50 PG/VG btw.

Will do... It might take me a bit, classes start back up Wednesday so I'll be busy. Just ordered everything today and hope it arrives soon bc I am almost out of the cinn pear and dont want to buy any more at $15 for 30ml plus shipping, esp after spending $100 of supplies today.

I'm a disabled chef, going back to school for programming, planning to do Web Development from home so I can work as able kind of thing. Also care for elderly parents and teen daughter so I'm quite busy.... but I WILL post my recipes and my critiques of them...eventually!

I wish you all the luck in the world finding your new adv.

If you don’t have any luck with those mangos, Flavorah makes a really good one. And I’ve heard good things about Wonder Flavors Island Mango.....I have it, but haven’t had time to test it yet.

There’s lots of info here! Good luck!

Absolute 100% agreement -- mango tastes like "mint peaches" of all the godawful combos! :giggle: And that was why I never liked the original Nautilus tanks, they just changed the flavor of the vape something awful. So I turned to rebuildables and found my happy place.

Some folks say that rayon wicks give them a very pure taste of their vape -- which may be true, but the risk of a 'amputate my tongue quick!' dry hit from rayon makes it not worth it to me. I've always preferred Shiseido cotton pads; pure taste, pure white, nearly nonexistent break-in period.

Most people can't really tell much diff in the nic, but I have to admit, at 18mg, you just might taste it enough to make a difference. Vaperstek.org has a very pure, very refined nicotine; it's more costly than the regular stuff, but may be worth it if the taste of the regular stuff offends you in some way.

And again... welcome to VU, @BrokenChef !

Yes, sounds good to get started. Single flavors to start out is fine. There are threads around for simple two flavor combos or 1-2-3 recipes. Most of the time flavors taste better blended. I do a few simple ones all the time. I'll post them incase you're interested.

Impeared Judgement
  • TFA-Pear 5%
  • TFA-Bavarian Cream 5%
  • TFA-Peppermint 1%
Prickly Victory
  • CAP-Sweet Guava 4%
  • INW-Cactus 1%
Mikes Melons
  • TFA-Cantaloupe 5%
  • TFA-Papaya 5%
  • TFA-Mango 5%
It's a shame that you get those weird tastes. I'm not sure if you'd like any of the recipes I posted for that reason. But they all taste good to me.

You need to find a recipe calculator that you like. You have to adjust the settings and input what you'd like to mix. I like to use steam engines calc.

After readin this thread... how much are you using of what?
Over flavoring your juice can cause a chemical taste, as well as muting in 3 days, 3 weeks or flavor fade over time.
Might want to check how much you are adding to your juice. :)

And then there's folks like me, whose best recipe started at 31% flavoring, and only after nearly 4 yrs has come down to 22.5%. SOME flavors mute and/or fade... some really don't.

My hard-programmed start-level is 4% flavor.. I've got flavors today that, after several recent tests, are down to 1-2%, and a couple can only be used in idiotic "drops".

My ADV recipe.
Cromwells Custard.
120 ml batch.
4 ml Capella Vanilla custard V1
1.6 ml Capella Vanilla whipped cream
5 drops Nu Naturals liquid Nu Stevia.
2 ml 100 mg/ml nicotine
Balance of 120 ml with 50/50 PG/VG

Not sure on the flavor percentages but pretty low.

also a good base to add a bit of other flavors to.
Like about 1 ml or so of Capella Cinnamon Danish

:)

To the OP.

It all varies with manufacture, no 2 are alike. There are flavor thresholds in some, that 1 drop in 120ml is way more than enough..

I too have recipes that exceed 31% flavoring.. then again take my peach overload I left here on site, 31 flavors and a tiny bit over 16% total flavor.
it all depends on what and how it is used. There is a balance. :)

So if the original poster could say what he used, even more help could be given. best of luck to all..

I havent used anything, yet. I made DIY liquid about 10 years ago, before there were vape stores or anyone selling this stuff. Didnt have a choice! Cant remember what I used back then, it was whatever was available...mostly Lorann flavorings.

I just got in an order... VG, PG, NIC and 12 flavors... 5 of them are different manufacturers of Mango

Only thing I have played with so far is I took a 100ml bottle of RIPE Peachy/Mango/Pineapple 3mg nic and jacked it to 15mg nic which killed the flavor so I mixed a 10ml bottle with 10 drops each peach/mango/pineapple and filled it up with the 15mg RIPE. This brought the flavor back but I am not liking the peach part as it tastes like Stevia to me. Using Capella flavorings for this mix.

I DL the easyejuice calc but I need to contact the creator and get the pro verion as it only allows for one flavor. I want to be able to record and save everything I make so I can look back and rate what I make.

I've been using a local shops cinnamon pear 18mg nic for several years in a Plato Aspire 1.8ohm

But I just bought a WOTOFO FLux with Pro Flow Sub Ohm .18 and am playign around with it on diff watts. I am a low watt kind of guy. Not looking to be a cloud mahine. I just want nicotine in my system and want it to taste good without feeling like I took too big of a **** hit.

Just finished a course of prednisone so my taste buds are jacked up. I will have to wait a few days before I can really judge what I am tasting.

The juice I made years ago was like 20-25mg nic, straight mango, 50/50 PG/VG and I LOVED it but back then, the box mods were very crude and they all leaked like sieves so I stopped vaping and switched to patches and lozenges. Once all these stores opened up, I went through a variety of stick devices and landed on the Palto Aspire a few years back which has worked very well but I am sooooo sick of the cinn pear and cant find anything I like that doesnt taste like chemicals/aftertaste.

All I REALLY WANT is one good mango mix, high nic that will not ruin a coil in 5 days.

I'm thinking I will stick with a 50/50 mix or thereabouts, 15mg nic should be adequate.

My nic base is 100mg/ml in 50/50 so calculations are fairly straight forward. Flavorings seem to be PG so i will offset with VG to maintain close to 50/50.

I am considering looking into an RTA....hate drops, too messy and time consuming. I'd prefer a 10ml tank that lasts as long as the batteries, lol

Interested in learning more in order to get the performance and flavor I am looking for.

The wotofo pro flow sub coils .18ohm say they are for 40-60watts but I am more of a 25 watt kind of guy so I'm not sure how to correct this.

I am interested in learning more about what tanks/coils I should use to match 25-30 watts.

I will be trying my mixes in the plato aspire at 1.8ohm, 20 watts and in the Flux .18ohm at 25-30 watts to see what difference there is.

I need to get some everclear so I can clean some stuff out.

Also saw a few youtubes saying I can soak my used coils and reuse them. I like the sound of that being that these sub ohm pro flow coils are $4 each and the first one only lasted a week. I shall soak and gently scrub with a qtip to get the black grunge off and see what happens. This scenario is what's leading me to want to try an RTA but there are so many freaking options and different building materials. I'm just getting started....baby steps for now!

Just go go back a tad.... Sorry for dropping out of the convo a few days back. I screwed up my back again and have been bed ridden for 5 days, thus the round of prednisone. Just got an injection 2 weeks ago so to have this issue so soon after is a bit puzzling. Had a Lumbar MRI this morning and am getting a Pelvic MRI Friday. It was so bad I couldnt even stand up for but about 30 seconds. Been crawling to the bathroom. Had to drop my classes this term as there was no way in hell I could sit in class for 4 hours a day. I have a spine stimulator and have had 4 discs removed...thus far. I sincerely hope I dont need another surgery. Not sure I can handle another year of recovery and will surely lose custody of my daughter if this happens.

Moving forward, thanks again to everyone who has chimed in. This shit keeps me occupied a bit when I have the time to work on it. Something for ME!

I was just looking at a top air RTA on wotofo.... a bit pricey for me at the moment. Just dropped $130 on a mod and $100 on DIY supplies so I'm tapped out til the end of November...or more like Jan/Feb with x-mas coming, etc, etc.

I was a successful chef making 60k at one point, now I am a crippled invalid scraping by on disability at $1200/month in my parents attic. Am TRYING to get a degree in programming so I can work from home as able....maybe do web pages or build some apps. Life sure is CRUEL!!!!

Sorry...lol prednisone doesnt combine with assholes very well. I figured out I'm not the only one upset at these cpl ppl and also figured out how to ignore them so I wont be leaving after all.... Sorry for the profanity!!!! Please delete my posts if you are offended or if I violated the rules!!! or not, lol

I'm really a pretty nice guy, just have had my fair share of assholes over the years in the restaurant industry...combine that with the pain, depression and prednisone and I lost it there for a minute. Just dont need the hassle!

Lots of info here.. ;) Let me see if I can help with just this one post..

Amounts per manufacture can vary.. research each one and see what you believe you want to be using, there has been a lot ofprogress since you mixed 10 yrs ago! :)

I am not sure on this "ripe" brand, never heard of it, unless you are referring to tfa's ripe strawberry?

I DL the easyejuice calc but I need to contact the creator and get the pro verion as it only allows for one flavor. I want to be able to record and save everything I make so I can look back and rate what I make.

Most use the website here -> http://e-liquid-recipes.com
there is a few good sections to read over.. and you can even "stash" your flavor list there, find what you have and what you can mix from others, or even keep all of your recipes private/public.

You might want to look into mouth to lung tanks and nic salts, it is an option and you can keep your clouds down. I too have the flux and flow lol.. at the .18 I bet you think you are a dragon atm! :) You like the tighter draws, so look at the "starter mods" of today. You will find they can more than meet the draws from 10 yrs ago.. in fact, they still sell evods and spinners on certain sites ;)

Just finished a course of prednisone so my taste buds are jacked up. I will have to wait a few days before I can really judge what I am tasting.

Now, this.. can and will toss your tastebuds around and I know since you have been vaping all this time?? could be the crux of the matter..

You will learn a lot here, and on "elr" as everyone likes to call it.. tons of info out for mixing these days and everyone wants to be first to tell you how to mix and with what.. :)

As far as a 50/50 blend, its more than fine.. the pg is what helps flavor and the vg gives the "clouds" as far as an rta, that is fine too.. I have the mantra, beserker, digiflavor's siren and the obs cirus. I have another one too, with adjustable pieces for the air flow, but can't recall the name of the tank.. sorry! :) but these should give you a broader range!

Interested in learning more in order to get the performance and flavor I am looking for.

The wotofo pro flow sub coils .18ohm say they are for 40-60watts but I am more of a 25 watt kind of guy so I'm not sure how to correct this.

I will be trying my mixes in the plato aspire at 1.8ohm, 20 watts and in the Flux .18ohm at 25-30 watts to see what difference there is.

I run my flow at 25 to 30 2 watts using my obs..

Everclear is good for cleaning tanks, but you really do not want to clean coils with it.. the coils are so disposable, made to use and toss.

I do agree, baby steps and have some fun with it! If you do need any mixing help, just post up, all kinds of smart folks here, and lots of friends to make! :)

I hope this helps you out..

I will end with saying this.. you are only as good as what you mix with.
Some folks love the standards because they have been around for years and so many recipes out for them.
I prefer ultras, as I do have a pg reaction, been using them for 5 yrs now. I like flavors that I don't have to dump a ton of flavoring into my juices..

If you are curious.. my elr account is attached to my signature.. and if you tag me, I can respond when I get a chance. just use the @ symbol and my name.. Good luck Broken.. I am sure you will find your path and get fixed ;)

Life is what you make of it, Broken.. I am sure you can turn this around and find your happiness!

Once agian, thanks to those of you who have helped. I am not here to deal with a bunch of asstards who insist on cramming studies down my throat about irrelevant topics. I will not be back to this forum.

Not sure where this came from... but some studies can be important.. just filter the ones you don't care for out..

You will find those types of folks anywhere, not just online.. just relax, you will find a spot here.. You do seem like a good guy just trying to figure it all out! :)

@Smoky Blue I thought I would "contribute" my experiences on another thread re: nicotine addiction and was met with a cpl people who repeatedly called me out for my views and shoved studies down my throat. I was simply stating my opinion and my personal experiences and observations but was responded to by a cpl people who are so important and know so much that they have to challenge my every word on an ecig forum as if I stated it as medical/scientific fact.... then go on and on and on and on. So that's what pissed me off. Just seems to me if these people are so important and have so much righteousness, they should present their medical degrees, qualifications and be on a medical forum, not an ecig forum.

Yes, I've run into them everywhere but to be jumped by them on my second post ever is a tad off-putting and unwelcoming. I clearly stated it was my opinion and it was demanded that I post studies supporting my opinions, else apparently I cant speak at all. I was trying to be friendly, offer my insights and experiences. The reception was anything except welcoming.

But I regress.... There are obviously many others on here who are helpful and kind, so I thought it over a bit, realized I can just ignore the assholes and move along. Also noticed one of the assholes was called out by others so it appears this isnt the first time they have caused issues.

so enough of that, just wanted to explain since you asked...

and thanks for the kind words and support... I'll spare you all the details, ups and downs, and brick walls I've slammed into literally and metaphorically. Not trying to bring my baggage in here, just mentioned it more as an excuse as to why I got pissed off and wont tolerate the shit that was thrown at me.

I'll get back to everyone once I get some shit together here. Thanks for the recipe/calc link too!!

You have all given me a lot of info that is very helpful and now I have some things to research and consider. I wasnt sure even what to look for a week ago so I do appreciate the help, very much!

I just want nicotine in my system and want it to taste good without feeling like I took too big of a xxxx hit.

You can get mesh coils for your Flow tank. They give great flavor and last a lot longer than coils that use wire. They don't have to be Wotofo brand either. That tank uses what we call baby or baby beast styled coils. I got a pack of Geekvape Super mesh coils from Eightvape for ten bucks. They work great.

Ahh but only 1 stevia.
None of the grocery store stevia it is horrible.

NuNaturals Clear NuStevia.
A 2 oz bottle lasts me about 1.5 years.
for around $10.

edit to this post:
There are several different varieties of the stevia plant.
The Stevia Rebaudiana variety seems to be the non bitter one.

I am not sure on this "ripe" brand, never heard of it, unless you are referring to tfa's ripe strawberry?

Being an ex chef you need to do DIY.
My 120 ml bottles of my custard cost me around $2 for a 120 ml bottle.

Thanks for that... I did see the baby beast coils mentioned elsewhere as compatible. Really want to get an RTA as I enjoy building things, albeit a small/simple item.

Is there specific brand/type of mesh and cotton that's better than others that I should be using in my builds?

I started a thread in Beginner Building re RTA for more info on this subject

ok so that is premade juices you are mixing with.

that might be the problem there too.

I find it is best to just use flavors, your vg/pg and your own nic.
Taste your base first, make sure it is all fine, and by that it should be smooth, no harsh.. nic should not be noticeable.

get your elr account going, add your flavorings, not premade juices..

Start your flavors according to brand, low to high in 10ml bottles..

if you use utlra flavors like Flavorah, Medicine Flower, start with 1-2 drops per 10ml.. make a note if you can taste that or not..
then increase the flavors till you find you like them. Remember to let them sit for a few days before trying them out.

you can easily fix this taste of yours, Chef.. but you need to be mixing the right ways :)

Just to add my two cents:

First, Smokie is right about mixing with factory made juice is likely to get you nowhere - can't recall anyone ever posting about great tasting juice by mixing already made juices

I'd go back to Bull City, and look at their recipe packs from the community, pick a couple that sound good, then buy the EXACT ingredients Community Recipe Packs

These recipes are tried and true - few newcomers find success right away trying to come up with their own recipes by mixing flavors that "sound good together"

Sounds like a great plan, thanks

I just happened to have a full bottle of this RIPE that I bought with the sub ohm FLUX mod. I paid $25 for it and I dont waste anything if I can help it. As a chef, I have always found a way to utilize everything and would rather alter a $25 bottle to make it usable rather than just throw it away. I dont have money like that.... $1200/month is what I live on. If I had saved all the money I wasted when I was younger, I would be living in a sweet home, fully paid for but instead I have NOTHING. It's hard to understand until you are stuck on the street with nothing and the hindsight kicks you in the ass.

As the chef of a restaurant, waste can be the end of the business. Most ppl think all restaurants are huge cash makers but that's not the case at all. MOST of them make their money from the booze and the food end breaks even but is also used to draw ppl in. When I owned my restaurant, if I had thrown out all the little bits and left overs instead of turning them into something else, I wouldn't have been successful. If you watch the pennies, the dollars will follow.

Once I finish this bottle of RIPE, that I will continue to alter 10ml at a time, then I shall begin making recipes from scratch.

Only reason I have to alter this stuff is bc it came as 3mg nic and I want 15mg so when I dilute it with more nic juice, it lost flavor so I added more flavor. Yes, it's still pretty nasty but again, I'm only vaping to get nicotine into my body. I smoked Camels for 23 years so the taste of this stuff is like a steak dinner compared to an actual cig.

I got a code for the free PRO version of the Easy Ejuice Vape app that was created by a member here and posted in the forum. I'm all for supporting fellow members who help each other. It's a pretty good app and I think it will work great for my needs. I am also in school for programming so supporting fellow programmers is high on my list as well.

I hear ya, makes sense!! But I am a chef of 27 years so I have to think I am a bit beyond the average first time mixer.

The reason I got 5 diff mango flavorings is because I am aware that just bc is says Mango, doens't mean it tastes like the mango I want.

I'm not, currently, interested in mixing a bunch of flavors together but dont mind trying combo's that others have come up with which are popular.

Who knows, this could turn into a small side business just making juice for family/friends. With no overhead (store front) I dont need to make much and if I should end up making enough to get my own juice for free, I'd call that a big win!

Once I get through a few more classes and can do web pages/ecommerce, etc. I may even find a niche I can cater too...like those who are sensitive to aftertaste.

Possibilities are endless!

Right now, I am waiting for the 14ga blunt needles to go with the 3ml syringes I have, a cpl of VTC6 batteries and the Stevia Cromwell mentioned.

I am considering getting a mg scale to make my recipes more accurate and precise...I'm a bit OCD like that.

Also started a thread in the new builders section but havent had much luck getting help there.

Want to get an RTA but not sure which one, what parts do I need... type/brand of cotton, tools, single/dual coil, type/size/brand of wire/mesh, etc, etc. I need to sit down and watch some youtube videos to get all these terms and details figured out!
