What surprises me is that Trump & Mattis had not prepositioned our forces embedded with the Mexican border patrol with standoff non lethal sonic & microwave crowd control Humvees that would have stopped that Caravan in its tracks and broken it up quite easily. Mexican southern border is a lot smaller, fortified with a substantial fence and a lot easier to defend than our own. The bridges at the southern border are natural choke points not easily circumvented by land & that would force them to attempt entry by water where they could easily be intercepted, collected & returned to country of origin.
Mexico must have denied deployment to our forces. It is only logical explanation as to why this step was not done.
