You can break the 3/8 drive stuff. I've broken 1/2 drive ratchet but never the sockets

Apologize for this all being off topic, but curious, Ralph, if those were the USA-made tools or the newer ones...

I think it's just price hikes. I've been noticing stuff from China going up in price for months, not just recently. First the clone companies like sxk were charging more, selection/variety seems to be down from what it once was. Lots of older gear discontinued and prices rising. Probably over the last 6-8mo or longer, well before the tariffs. I'd venture to say greed, they're seeing people paying higher prices so why not. I've noticed FT in particular their selection has gone to shit and what little they have left (seems about half of what they once offered), much of that is out of stock. I used to get excited checking out FT or GB, these days not so much and I'm finding similar if not better deals stateside. To the point where shipping times are worth the extra $2 to get it closer.

In reference to Donald Trump and his China tarriff

I agree we have a terrible deficit with China, which in some ways will never be completely "righted" b/c we have labor laws here and a (general) higher standard of living that requires a much higher minimum wage to even squeak by. They have a giant population forced to work for peanuts, crammed into a tiny country shoulder to shoulder... a standard of living unthinkable in the US, and not one we, or any democracy would want to model itself after. Complicating this is that our own economy is tight relevant to our own standard, and working people have to save money where they can to get by. Add corporate greed to that, where most of the goods are now manufactured in China (including Donald Trump's tie line for one), and you now have a hard time finding anything at Sears, Wal-Mart, Target or even higher end stores that was not manufactured in China. Putting us deeper in debt to them.

IMHO Trump's 'solution' to raise tariffs is a way to appear he's doing something when he's doing nothing at all that actually helps the American consumer or the problem. For the last 20 years or more we have grown into a county not Of The People and By The People, but Of the Corporations and By The Corporations... meaning the top few percent. Corporations need to do right by this country and make their goods here, pay union wages so people can buy a house and raise a family, and more people will have more jobs and make more money... to buy American made products that cost more, but are of higher quality and put our money back into this country... instead of funneling it out to China so Corps can become richer, and China more powerful. A mod or tank or other vape gear is small potatoes as is this tariff. The change we need goes way beyond this. Trump represents those who want to keep the rich rich, at the expense of the rest of us, and every action he's taken proves this while he panders to the working man, saying the opposite. He is a carnival barker. What we need is a leader.

-- off soap box
Agree that corporations are corrupt. But so are the big union heads corrupt as well. Union “rules” help make americans less efficient with those absurd rules, i interviewed for a union job and found out it took three different disciplines to do a job that I was doing alone. I declined that offer. A friend I work with was written up by the union for using a copier to copy something instead of filling out a form to have an administrative person make the copy. Lol

Personally having worked in union and non union jobs I think unions have nearly outgrown their usefulness. OSHA and labor boards cover about everything these days. (no backlashes please, just an opinion from my personal perspective)

I worked on Union Docks for a few years.
The only Union job I ever had. Was proud at first, until I got sick and tired of all the bitching going on every day.
Biggest bunch of crybabies I have ever seen.
