Opinions Wanted: Good Single-Coil RTA (or RDTA with larger tank)

Hey folks,

In the market for a good, single-coil RDTA [for 510 TC mod]. Edit: or an RTA as I'd like a little bigger thank than most RDTAs have...

Recommendations?

Needs:
1. Clear tank (like to see my juice)
2. Easy deck build (uses hex screws preferably and standard wire coils).
3. Strictly single-coil... not a DC with a blocker for one side.
4. (edit) Must be bottom coil tank.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks. That's a nice looking RDTA. But now wondering if I should go with an RTA. The RDTA tanks are so small... don't use much nic so can imagine having to fill it constantly. Hmmm....

You may get more "eyes" and suggestions if you posted to or ask a mod to move this thread to here: http://vapingunderground.com/forums/general-rebuildable-discussion-rta-rba-rda.43/ This area is more for the pre-built factory coils, so I would guess not many builders wander into this sub-forum. Not criticizing, just trying to get you more help. I don't do tanks that much and just happened to wander by here.

Thanks Gopher, will do, and will edit the (new) post to be more accurate. Will req mod delete this thread. (And thanks again CactusF - am saving that link in my folder of possibilities.) :)

That looks really nice and great reviews... except don't wanna have to buy mesh coils. But I do like that it's a bottom coil. That's another must-have (will edit my OP) as I vape 100% VG and top coil tanks don't wick efficiently enough for chaining. (Tried the Avocado couple years back and traded it off for this reason.) That's a beauty though!

Braggart. :D

I'm looking at a Mofoto Serpent RTA at the mo' ... not the exotic mesh coil but seems to fit my needs... a top contender at this point... bottom coil, easy to fill, nice sized tank... (I see there are a lot of different models, but this is the one that looks good to me 24mm Serpent smm.)

Flave RDTA ...if the RDA is anything to go by jobs a gooden! I don’t have the RDTA variant of it unfortunately though @SnapDragon NY does :)

Edit: On top of gophers suggestion that is

These are all the single coil RTAs and RDTAs I have and use
Yes I have 4 Flave RDTAs BF- they have a very small 2ml tank- I use those for squonkers
I have 3 Vandy Vape Pyro RDTAs again a very small tank 3.5ml, but very easy to refill- no leaking! One of my favorite tanks, great flavor, easy to wick.
I have 2 GeekVape Zeus RTAs- holds 4 mls of juice, juice hog, constantly refilling- No leaks
I have 2 OBS Nanos- holds 5 mls of juice- No leaks, this tank has been discontinued.
I have 1 OBS Crius ll- holds 3.5 ml of juice- great flavor, bottom air flow- mine started leaking from the 510 and it is shelved- too bad great flavor tank.

On my wish list is the
Augvape Intake RTA- gets great reviews - will hold 4.2 ml of liquid and leak proof
GeekVape Blitzen RTA will hold 5 mls and leak proof
Vandy Vapes Pyro 2 RDTA will hold 4 ml- leak proof come, comes with a squonk pin

Well this is the Voltrove 30mm 5 ml version or it can become 10ml....... With the provided center stem and 10ml tank....

All beautiful tanks and nice suggestions. Decided to go with the Serpent SMM since it's a bottom coil tank, and all that other stuff. :)

I've heard only good about Zesthia RTA - 4.2ml
I suggest Kylin Mini but you might get frustrated with the wicking learning curve it has.
Crius II single coil is fantastic flavor too. 5ml Kylin Mini bubble fits.

The Serpent SMM nice ......by Suck my mod .... Ha....24mm .... I use the drip tip a nice 510..... It's similar to The Troll.......You can build also dual coils..... Tricky but a couple of small..... Loud air flow, loud..... Nice tank for a restricted vape...... Mouth to lung....

Enjoy it.... Easy to build......

Serpent SMM is quite good and easy to build on. But they randomly leak. I have 4 of them, and three of them are always leaking underneath the tank, and occasionally they "weep" down the side of the tank from the top. I have tried swapping o-rings and beating them to death to make sure the build deck is aligned correctly but no joy. So as long as you don't mind regularly wiping the top of your mod under the RTA and wiping the side of the tank if it weeps then you will be fine :)

I stopped using mine from the leaks..... I put it once in my side pocket and had a big circle around my pants leg.... Like someone emptied a can of STP motor oil in my pocket...... But I still use the 510 drip tip..... It's nice.....

The Serpent SMM nice ......[...] Tricky but a couple of small..... Loud air flow, loud....[...]

As it happened PayPal choked repeatedly and could not place the order so am reassessing as that's the one thing that bothered me... how loud it is. Might get a mid-range 30mm mod and a larger mm tank. Saw Rip's review of the Wotofo Profile and that is one mesh deck I'd get in a second... super easy build and can buy SS mesh and (already have) organic cotton to build your own coil. BUT... it's a squonker and not into that... so will be doing more research this afternoon.

With the reports of the Serpent leaking and the loud noise, looks like PayPal did me a favor. Not that it's a bad tank, but ... happy I'm looking further. Thanks everyone for your input. Appreciated!

I have the serpent smm rta and it works great. Have an intake that is also very nice much warmer hit, probably due to the top air flow. I am gonna try a Kylin as well. You can’t go wrong with the serpent though it came out close to perfect on my first build on it.

Thanks, I did happen to watch a few reviews of it the other day. I liked a lot about it but the build quality seemed a little lacking. IIRC the designer asked the manuf to use hex grubs in the deck, and they put in flatheads... that also seem to be poor quality (bad threading)... But yes, still looking for single coil.

@MannyScoot - The 22ml Aromamizer Supreme has been my tank of choice for a couple years now. Only thing I use. One reason I wanted a change. But I'm tired of dual coil building (go through coils twice as fast) and liked my old single coils so figured I'd get a newer single with an improved deck for a change.

But had family business all day yesterday, and now am about to get busy with other necessities, so my window for vape research has just about closed. Will probably have to revisit this at a little later date, time allows.

Want to thank everyone again for their suggestions - still need to look up the Kylin Mini suggested by @OhmzRaw and a few others. :)

@OhmzRaw - that Kylin is a very nice looking little tank with a modern style deck. Will revisit that a little later to watch a few reviews!

One thing that gives me pause with the Serpent is the noise... my Aromamizer Supremes are so noisy and it's something I'd like to avoid this time. (Then too, might go for a 30mm.) Ack. Will figure it out when I have time to get back to it. Appreciate the feedback.

What build do you use in the SMM? I have one but to be honest I haven't really put it through its paces.

For me the iNtake and Kylin Mini are excellent. I've recently saw the Dvarw RTA which seems very, very promising for flavour.

I have a Kylin but not a favorite of mine.... Hard to wick correctly and get constant dry hits...

Not trying to talk you into anything, just sayin'...
...after the first batch they will have phillips screws and glass for the bubble. Some pros/cons depend on what reviewer you watch. There's one that can be obviously discredited in it's entirety imo.

I used a 3mm fused Clapton SS316L coil in my serpent smm. Around 40 watts at 440. Just built a Kylin mini with some type coil but added an extra wrap. Flavor out of this world. It is also a little better looking. Same general settings on a paranormal.

Wow, so much great info here! Think I'll pass on the Kylin due to the wicking (though realize the mini is probably a different horse from the standard). I use 100% VG so looking for something forgiving (also why I won't go with a top coil... just doesn't wick fast enough when chaining).

And glad to hear the second batch of FPs will have phillips vs flatheads. I wondered if that might happen, and if the machining will be better. So will watch for those.

Also totally hear you about reviews which is why I watch several, but not really to hear what the reviewer thinks (too much about vaping is subjective and build/juice make a huge diff too), but because once I get a look at the deck and the way it's designed I can form my own opinion about how I think it will work for my builds/juice/settings/vaping style. I know many people don't like Rip b/c he "loves everything" but I like his reviews because they move fast and he has great shots of the deck, and brings up lots of points that sometimes matter to me, and sometimes don't. Also watch Grimm, Mike Vapes, and others. But in the end reviewers' opinions are incidental. (Have bought stuff they said was great I didn't like at all, like the top coil Avocado I traded off immediately, and have gear I love that got so-so or bad reviews.) "Everyone's a critic." :D

Well I am no wicking expert by any stretch of the imagination but my Kylin mini has been in service for over a week and on first build still has awesome flavor and zero, zero leakage and after several tanks of juice is still fabulous. I have heard the Kylin itself is troublesome.

I would highly suggest the Coppervape Skyline. It's the best flavor I've gotten on an RTA, is only $22 or less, is great for RLH or MTL, and it's got the juice flow control feature to prevent leakage.

I never get leakage as long as I have the juice flow control set properly even without closing it down entirely.

I only use it as RLH and it's great for that. Flavor wise it's just incredible. It's like RDA level it's so good. I was going to buy a genuine Kayfun V5 but everyone online was saying the Coppervape Skyline has better flavor so I went that route instead.

I've popped into this forum randomly for over a year straight now to read the feedback while trying to keep tabs on the latest/greatest, and even bought a few like the Serpant Mini and Zeus when they saw a ton of hype. Still haven't found anything that's replaced the Ijoy Exo RTA tank (with the included single coil deck) that was Anthony Vapes' primary recommendation here last year.

Best flavor, notably excellent juice capacity at 6ml compared to the growing trend of going 5ml or smaller (with silly looking/protruding bubble shaped glass to get there at that, but that is obviously my own subjective opinion), and unlike almost everything else it doesn't guzzle juice nearly as fast to achieve it's top notch end result.

Close runner up being the OBS Engine Nano I got in a trade here for an Aromimizer Supreme, and which then permanently shelved both the Serpent and Zeus. Better flavor, but not quite on the Ijoy Exo's level. Little more hassle free then the Exo though.

So yeah, beyond people's general need to try/use new things, I felt 2018 was honestly a step backwards as far as single coil tank options went imo. I'd like to try or see something that would change my mind of that though, of course.
