Looking for new mod that will last(rugged)?

Hey guys,
I've been using a Smok Procolor lately, and while I've been fairly happy with the mod, today I noticed that the battery door isn't staying shut very well. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a good replacement that will run on 18650 batteries. I'm looking for something with a different battery load design, as I was skeptical of the latching door on the Procolor to begin with, and my suspicions were apparently well deserved. A rugged device would be great, but the only ones I'm really seeing are the Geekvape Aegis models, and those seem to have mixed reviews. I typically vape in wattage mode around 70w, and would like to get some decent battery life (the reviews on Aegis all list this as a downside) Any suggestions would be great, Thanks!

The big question is are you looking for rugged as in (very hard to break) or something that may not be super rugged but has lifetime warranty on it. You also say you vape at 70w, what do your coils ohm at? I ask this because some box mods are only protected by mosfets and you can't go over a certain amperage before popping the mosfet.

The v2 minikin is great, the wife and I both have one.
Also the voodoo drag is a great dual
Battery mod, or the lost Vape paranormal as well.
For about 20$ more though, you can get a single battery sxmini sl class, gorgeous mod, great battery life and built well.

For durability and “indestructible” build quality, the aegis is still your best bet, though.

I've been using 0.15 mesh coils. As far as ruggedness, it doesn't need to be as bulletproof as say the Geekvape aegis is...being waterproof and all that. But a little shock resistance would be nice. The leather-clad boxes seem like a good idea, but I do worry about the quality, peeling, etc.

I was really considering the Aegis...but I read some bad things about the battery life and that sounded a bit annoying lol. That sxmini looks really great, $140 is a bit steep..but I could willing to pay for something I know is made well enough to last. Minikin seems to be in the lead for suggestions though. I was also checking out the Smoant Charon, purely because I'm skeptical of the hinged bottom-load battery design after the Procolor

Yeah with a 0.15 Ω coil at 70w your hitting ~21 Amps, so something like an okl-t20 would be out of the question. The aegis legend is really nice, know a few people who have them, nice mods. The Smoant Charon 218 is a bit of a beast. I have dropped mine more than I care to say, and the bugger is still working. Though you would have to get used to the Variable Voltage aspect of it. The only issue with the Smoant Charon 218 is the minimum voltage is 3.4 volts. So if you vape anywhere below that level, probably not a good fit, though like I said, build like a tank.

I did buy a pack of SS316l coils, and was looking into trying TC mode, but I couldn't really get it dialed in and went back to wattage. Might be worth trying again with the all the good TC options out there with the more sturdy mods. Was planning on ordering a new device tonight, but figuring this out may take me a bit longer...

If you’re looking at tc, I would strongly urge you to consider any of the dna, sx or gene chip mods.
Those seem to be the top 3 for tc performance.
If you’re looking at power only, check out the tac21 in addition to the other mentioned. Squid industries makes some great mods, and have great customer service.

The Tac21 or any of the Squid mods are a nice choice but based on pics that people have posted if you’re looking for durability I would choose the Silver color to avoid the paint chipping.

I have a Battlestar, the predecessor to the Charon 218. Not the greatest for battery life management, but as rugged and reliable as the sunrise. Gets most use of all my mods.

I have to agree. My 20 month old battlestar has held up very well. What surprises the most is it doesn’t have any chips in the black finish.

With the update to the Aegis I've had good battery life and it is as rugged as they come. I've also been pleased with my Tesla Wye as far as durability. It has taken a few falls and kept on trucking.

The thing I really love about the charon is the fact the main body is one solid piece of metal. Though don't get me wrong, I have chips, scuffs, worn down sections, but this mod has been through hell and back with me. It's my beater mod, and when it breaks i'm buying another for a beater mod.

I've had the Charon 218 TC for quite awhile and it's been very durable too. It's taken some drops and such without any problems. It's been a very solid mod, especially for the price.

To those of you with the og Charon, how big/heavy is it compared with the Battlestar? Is the battery door solid?

I see both on sale now for $30.

I like that the Battlestar does not have excessive bling, and is a solid power mode mod for mid-wattage. But variety makes things interesting.

Welcome @Vince92 and I hope you enjoy your stay~!

While you will hear many opinions on a durable MOD all I can offer is 1st hand personal experience as a recommendation. My RX200S has withstood multiple drops on asphalt and concrete so many times over the last 4 years it shouldn't even work any longer. If you can find a supplier who still has one I say go for it~! It is in my hand right now and still firing at 60W and 460°F in TC mode. Good Luck

I don't have a Battlestar to compare it to. It's not overly heavy, definitely pocketable. The door on mine is rock solid, there's not a bit of wiggle, play, or gapping at all. The tolerances are spot on, quite well made. I've had mine since they first came out without issues. I don't use it everyday, but I don't use any one of my setups every single day, but it is part of my regular rotation.

Since I saw both of these mods mentioned in this thread, thought I'd post that HG is having a Flash Sale today and will have the Asmodus Minkin for $28 and the Geekvape Aegis Legend Kit for $11. The Aegis Legend Kit for $11 is a crazy deal. If anybody was on the fence, today is the time to hurry and hop off.

Missed a whole bunch of replies on this thread, didn't except so much great feedback. Ended up picking up a Smoant Cylon, and I'm not very pleased with it. Looks great, but the buttons rattle and it makes me nuts lol. Probably going to shelf it as a backup and pick up something else in the near future, so this thread will be a good reference point.

They had the Voopoo Drag for $28 and GeekVape Nova kit for $11 a couple days ago too. Both those are really good mods and those prices made them a steal. Sorry to hear about the Cylon, it does look nice tho. My Smoant Charon is a little plain by comparison, but it's been a great little mod and doesn't rattle. I hate rattling mods too.
