Throat burning on certain liquids not a beginner

Hi guys,

As the title says, I just got stuck in something I don' t realy understand. I get quite bad throat burn or iritation that forces me to drink something to "cool it off". I've been vaping since the simple cigar like ones appeared but never completely switched completely to e-cigs. I had rda's rba's , mech mods... all of it :)
Also I'be been involved in electronics for 20 years now, I know what a vape is and how it works( also repaired a ton of them for friends) . My problem is that recently I started using it more and more with the intention to quit normal ones. I switched from my beloved aspire k3 tanks with 0.7 coils to smok tfv8 baby beasts, running on Eleaf ipower 80w . Love the tank , the cloud and flavour.
Sorry for the long introduction, I usualy buy only well know liquid brands, am a big fan of Black Note, cosmic fog and others.. now the problem is that with most of my liquids I get a throat burn. Only a sweet nasty juice and a mentholl one are ok. Vg/pg : 50/50 ( black note) 70/30 and 80/20. Nicotine 3 and 6mg , I have a coffee one and a gold tabacco that I loved on the aspire k3 mtl but on the smok as direct to lungs it burns like stupid. No spitback, no liquid in mouth, coil reccomended wattage, all airflow combinations ... what am I missing ?

Thank you.

Which coils are you using and at what wattage are you running the mod?

Sounds like your running your coil within it's limits but it's definitely gonna produce hotter and much more vapor than the K3. The K3 is a MTL 1.8ohm coil and you've dropped down to a DL .6 sub ohm. If you're not used to the higher heat/volume of vapor that can certainly cause some irritation.

Have you noticed any connection between the brand of juice and the burning? Is there any juice you vape in the new setup that doesn't cause the irritation?

Hi, I used the K3's ( two of them ) with 0.7 coils at 20w, on the 80w eleaf and a 50w smok qbox.
Liquids:
-Black note all types 50/50 6mg burns
-Nasty juice tabcco gold 70/30 6mg burns bad
-Cosmic fog chilld tabacco 70/30 3mg bearable
-Glass rose 80/20 3mg taste funny
-tuxedo italian ( coffee) 80/20 3mg burns bad
-Nasty juice blackurrant 50/50 3mg all ok
-Rope cut santo domingo 70/30 6mg all ok
- slushy hut blueberry something 70/30 3mg burns

All these were ok on the K3's .

Can you post a pic of your previous tank?

First i noticed 50/50 pg/vg this is normally fine for M2L but would be really harsh in a direct to lung inhale.
As for the rest, maybe 30/70 is to much PG for you in a M2L set up. I use 20/80 at 3mg/ml with no problem no matter which tank or dripper I use. Some flavors I find dry my mouth out more, but I wouldnt say burns. Pecan for example is one of those. So as mentioned.. try reducing your power and increase airflow until you find something you like.

hi the ratio is the other way around in the liquids described VG/ PG. The two liquids 80vg/20pg were bought for the SMOK, in the K3 80/20 works but the holes are small and rarely might fire dry if I do the second to fast.

The issue is that I am giving up on M2L vaping ( never had any issues but want a bit more cloud) I was about to buy another smok tfv8 baby but I realised almost all the liquids I like give me problems. The biggest one is that all the tabacco ones irritate my throat badly.

I know that some flavors I use are harsher than others...some flavors I can't vape first thing in the morning. I have to start out with something smoother and then I can change flavors after vaping for half an hour.

Okay, first let me get this out of the way... The Aspire K3 IS A MTL ABOVE OHM TANK. If you were using .7ohm coils in it you should not have been. That tank was never designed for sub ohm vaping. Using a lower ohm coil than the tank is designed for is how exploding mods happen.

With that out of the way... again you have gone from a MTL tank to a DL tank. MTL tanks tend to mute flavor, so now that you are DL vaping them are you getting more flavor and truer flavor. Also, you are putting more heat behind the nic which will bring out the "peppery" side of the nic. Peppery nic will definitely cause throat irritation. I did notice a couple of the worst ones were 6mg and the better ones were only 3mg. You'll also find that you don't need to draw as hard or long on a DL sub ohm tank.

I think you need to try a different juice company. I found a lot of the juices I loved on MTL I didn't like at all once I started DL'n them. There is a full list of recommended juice vendors on my blog (link in my signature). You want the juice to be a min of 70VG for sub ohm vaping.

I wish there was a concrete answer for you!
