battery question

This may be the dumbest question ever, but in a regulated box mod, with 2 batteries, do both batteries have to be the exact same spec mah, amperage, and wattage ?

Not a dumb question ...better to ask than not :)

Yes it’s best practice to use married cells (bought, used and charged together) same brand, same CDR rating, same capcity

Don’t go by the sticker on the wrap they are usually lies, stick to well known brands if you can like Sony, Samsung, LG

I’m just wondering I have Sony VTC5A 30-35a 2500/2600 mAh 18650 batteries will those work for a Smok MagMod , all I can find online is “the mod takes 2 high amp 18650”

On regulated mods really doesn't matter they just empty at different levels ..... when one is too empty the mod will give you a check sign.

On mechanical, series or parallel is of more importance to used married batteries of equal output....

Still good practice to get in the habit of it though manny don’t you reckon? I’d say why put more strain on one cell more than the other when you can balance it out with both

The new Mods are so advanced they pull power equally out of both batteries.....

On the battery meter you can see which battery is the weakest if it has a dual cell display....on the Yihi g class for example it adds the voltage between the 2 cells and it gives you total available on both cells.....

The mod drains both batteries untill they both reach the limit it has programmed in the chip......

There is no danger of explosions or damage..... But you will get a stronger and better vape when both batteries give the same output.......

I recharge my batteries on a regular basis. What kind of life expectancy can I expect out of these type of batteries that go in the Mods?

I jave a set of VTC5 that are 2 years old and hold a good charge using them daily and hit hard.

The secret to longevity is using them to around 3.5 volt and charging them slow (.68 amps) on most chargers.

This completely depends on several things:
  • brand of the battery
  • the mod
  • ohm of coil
  • wattage or Temperature
  • how much you vape
I vape mostly .5 ohm coils at around 25 watts. I typically get 8-10 hours out of a single 2200 Mah 18650. The higher the Mah of the battery, the longer it lasts.

I had one of a married set decide it wasn't going to live as long as it's mate. After a couple of uses when one discharged much faster I buried the wife and sent the Widower on to live the rest of his life in a Single cell MOD. I was using this married set in one of 3 2 Cell New Mods so I wasn't taking a chance with one cell deciding it was going to give me a smoke show or fireworks display.

Edit: Yes, I did swap positions and used them in a different MOD before I recycled the one.

So an Efest LUSH Q2 Battery Charger that charges 1@ 2a and 2@1a is higher than average?

Yeah anything above 1 amp destroys the cells rapidly..... They are rated at 300 to 500 charge cycles at .68 amps and 150 to 200 charge cycles at above 1 amp....

So imagine a 2 amp charge ?

Lithium Ions are sensitive to heat....... And two amps heats them up real good..... With lipos even worst.....

Why the hell would the charger the vape store sells charge them at an amperage that’s not safe ... ffs ‍♂️... anyone have a good not super expensive suggestions for a 2-4 batter chamber Charger then

It's a marketing sneaky way, quick charge, back at quick vaping..... The fastest charger...... Lightning speed......

Well if you read the chargers instructions they tell you overcharging or quick charging exhaust the life of the cells........

People never read the instructions..... They throw them away.......

Most chargers charge at .68 amps which is the best level....

But people with one set of batteries need them charged fast ! So here it goes 2 amps 2 hours or less and I'm rocking it baby...

You need at least 2 sets......of batteries.....

As you can see here the normal charge is .68 amps.....

Or (2) cells at 2.0 amps......

It’s not gonna spank your batteries that quickly charging at 2A especially those VTC5As again good practice to charge them at say 0.5A to eek out extra life but they cost what a fiver each ...

Charge mine at 1A most of the time no probs and last a couple of years easy ..in fact only just retired the first set I ever bought 3 years ago they been charged loads of cycles at 2A

Decent chargers still go through a proper cycle

I swear mooch released something showing that 1 amp charging is fine and does not reduce the battery life significantly vs .68 amp charging

HIgh amp batteries mean 20 amps or higher CDR (always ignore pulse ratings they are useless) usually the highest you will get form a 18650 is 30 most good 186502 are about 20 amp CDR

VTC5A are green up to 1.5A charge ...they are standard up to 2.5A and will start reducing life faster after that ...but can go up to 6A charge according to Sony

I’ve charged them at 4A before on that sled thing from xtar they get hotter than I’d like on a charger but charged in 30minutes ...never used that setting again outside of testing
