taken from @Smoant - news should be posted up here as well in particular please read last update in bold, the devices might not have been isolated to just 101

Bear you guys have done the right thing here please keep us updated especially if you manage to isolate the problem to a small range of products

From Bear on reddit...

“I just wanted to take a moment and address the issue that some of you have heard about. There was a small batch of Smoant Battlestars that were sent to 101Vape around the middle of December that had some issues. With their help and the help of their customers we have isolated the affected customers and have begun working with 101Vape to have the affected devices replaced. This mistake is in no way a fault of 101Vape and I just want to make sure that is clear. As soon as they were aware of the issue they took the necessary steps to help us correct it.

I just wanted to assure you that the quality of our products at Smoant is of paramount importance and although mistakes do happen, we feel that it is how those mistakes are handled which shows the true character of a company.

101Vape has already reached out to all of their customers that were affected but if you have any questions or concerns about Smoant or the Battlestar I will do my best to answer them.

You can also contact 101Vape here: https://101vape.com/contact-us

or Smoant support here: [email protected]

Have a great day and happy vaping!

~ Bear

Update: the recall had been expanded to anyone with the issue. If your Battlestar fires at full power instead of the wattage on the screen, please email [email protected] with your receipt for a replacement.”

A very important share - thanks

It makes me feel better to know these guys take customer service seriously - while I do not own this mod, I often recommend it to folks who are looking for a good budget mod

Indeed looks like they are taking appropriate steps to rectify the issue quickly which is good. I wish some of the other companies would take a note of this and address issues in a timely manner as well

Transparency is the best policy when it comes to safety issues. Hopefully they’ll be able to state the serial number range affected, and at some point also give us the nod as to whether the issue has been fixed since Decembers batch

"We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

The supplier requires proof of defect for warranty. Would you mind provide us a video to show the problem as it seems a photo can't help in this case?

Since our ticket system don't support attaching video, please upload it via a third party website https://wetransfer.com/ with your email address first and post the link here.

Note that for company compliance reasons, please include the respective order number, while don't include any reference to FastTech.com or your contact information in the video.

After receiving your video, we will proceed to resolve the case for you soon.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know. Thank you."

This a huge inconvenience and i wrote a mail to SMOANT to see what they say :gaah:

Ahh make it as difficult as possible to redeem warranty coverage.
It seems to be a thing.
they hope that the customer with the defective merchandise will just give up.

Seems to be more and more common Standard (despicable) business practice.

Different outfit but I got a defective 510 base from FT last year.
They demanded a video. I do not have anything that will do close up videos...
I do not own a smart phone or webcam. So it would require using a DVR and transferring the recording to a PC, etc.

Couple problems here as I see it.
1. I have ordered something from FT at least once a month for over 2 years and this was my first complaint.
2. I was not complaining about the other 3 bases I got in the same order. And it was only a $2 part....

So they demand a video when it will NOT even show the Messed up threading inside the 510 connector.
Unless of microscipic grade video.

I tossed the connector and no longer buy connectors from them.

I view ordering from China as a toss of the dice with no expectations of any warranty service.

continuation of thought process....

However when ordering Chinese products form a US vendor the vendor should be your only point of required contact for warranty service/replacement.

But as I posted above most seem to be avoiding that responsibility as much as they can.
They seem to focus on the sale and not customer service.

There are a few exceptions with good customer service.

@Clapton I needed to send a video once for a warranty issue and the file was so large using Gmail it automatically was pushed to Google drive for me and them to Download. Might want to see if that works for you. Just a thought! Good Luck

When buying products on chinese sites, there is always a small risk, even if its a well known and recommended site.
But in this case the product is not only flawed but really dangerous. So i hope they - at least SMOANT itself- think that they´re responsible.

Geekvape for example has a very consumer friendly team in my experience as they sent to me 2 AMMIT bases that are not leaking, for under 10 bucks. so i hope they are not the only company out there that feels responsible for their products. I mean with a Battletar with that kind of "missing " isolation or whatever it is you can blow your face off :bomb: of course depending on the batteries but thats why people use regulated mods so they don´t have to worry about such things. And i´m not graduated in metallurgy but sudden 200 watts on a thin NiCr coil is not a good thing for your lungs, pretty sure.

However i am conviced SMOANT will answer

When asked for videos, I politely mention that I have no mobile phone and can't get a video.
When asked again, I just repeat. I did take a picture of something and sent it off.
Had the warranty honored every time.
Just be as silly as they are I guess.

they were great with my room mate. took less than a day to totally get sorted out. they wanted a video and pictures of all the packaging and invoice for the original purchase (which she provided immediately). they came back right away with a solution, which will supposedly be issued in the next couple days. im very impressed.

edit - and the money came through as promised a few days later. much respect @Smoant

My Battlestar ticks sometimes after I take a drag. It will just sit there, tick, tick, tick, tick... Anybody else?

I just won one on the Mod Envy show, so mine is pretty new. Does not tick, but does have a slight delay before firing. Pretty solid device.

I would run! :xD:.

No, but this could be also a downcooling coil that gets back after heating, especially if it is a rebuildable.
Are you sure it is the mod and not the coil?

Could also be arcing somewhere that’ll make a “tick” noise ...keep an eye on that

Might be the threading and around the 510 where it’s checking resistance of the coil ...see if you can locate the rough area of the noise
