Hey guys,
this is my first post here. I’ve been looking around at all the possibilities for my first mech mod and I’m a bit overwhelmed at the options. I’m pretty knowledgeable about ohms law and the safety aspect of mechs, but I don’t have one yet so I don’t have anything to compare to.

The mechs that peak my interest are the Dreamer, Broadside Admiral, SOI Shorty, Kennedy Roundhouse, Switch v2, Descendant, and the purge back to basic v3.

I’m really open to anything but I prefer simplistic sleek tubes. I’m going to be using a Drop RDA on it though which is 24mm so I’m not sure if I want a 24mm tube or a 25mm tube because it would be nice if it could sit flush. Any opinions are appreciated!

Thanks.

My vote it for the broadside. They are a little safer than the others you mentioned and they are also great performers. That being said all of the mods you mentioned are quality devices.

So I own a number of the mods listed.

The cerakoted Dreamers will lose their coating quickly. They also arc a bit - I clean mine quite often. Not a bad mod but not the favorite of those listed.

Broadside Admiral is great because you get virtually no arcing at all and surprisingly hits as hard as a few of my hybrids.

I got rid of my Kennedy Roundhouse pretty fast. I was never a fan of their button. It was crunchy. Don't like it.

I traded my Switch V2 to a friend who was using a Vgod Pro. I felt sorry for him. The Switch mod is nice - not a fan of the atty.

Never used a Descendant. I planned on getting one but ...

Now Purge. I had two Purges that I traded - both for very decent setups. One was a Truck that I traded for a stacked XXX with matching Druga - beautiful black and blue aluminum with an amazing button throw. I traded my SNE for a Palm (which I regretted). This weekend I was at CVE and picked up a cerakoted B2B V3. I will not part with it. I need at least one Purge! I honestly can find no fault with it especially if you upgrade to silver contact!

Now my favorite mod is my Avidlyfe (any AV rocks) and I love my Timekeeper too. I love the throw because I put a medium Purge silver spring in it and bought a silver contact for it. I also am a big fan of Manhatten V2s and Duvos. Avoid Limitless and Vgod (obviously) and all the Rigs.

Here are a few cheaper sleeper mods - Chronicle and El Thunder. El Thunder especially is great value for the money.

Bear in mind these are only my personal preferences from the mods I've used recently. None of the above are my Unicorns! I was wanting a custom coated Armageddon stacked Hammer or a Grip with a matching Revelation on top, however, I saw the new proto sidefire Purge at the show and pre ordered one. Could not help myself ... I'll have to find the money for it and I don't even know the price yet, lol. So it goes.

BTW, the Drop is a really nice RDA for the price.

Welcome to our vortex of differing opinions.....

Dude......you don’t have to swing for the fences on your first mech mod. Every one of those mech mods you mentioned are in the $125+ range. I could probably turn that into 1 nice mech mod, 1 usable vw mod, and 3 or 4 decent rda’s.
Good on ya for doing your research, but you don’t have to overspend to start your mech mod/rda adventure.
(That Drop RDA is sharp though)

I Agree. Just got my first mech. AV clone. Works great. My buddy has many mech mods and I have had a chance to use them all. The clone he gifted me preforms as well as any of his high end stuff. I did have a machine shop put two aditional vent holes in the top of the mod as it vents through the bottom. But other wise all is great. Paired mine with my Dead Rabbit and it is a good quality, safe, hard hitting vape. Retail price of the clone about $30.

You know I must say that clones DO NOT perform as well as authentics. Some are okay but the machining is never as good, the button is never as good, etc. If you want a clone go for it. But stop saying they are as good as authentics please.

Not to mention all of the horror stories of batteries venting and mods autofiring because of a bad spring, switch, etc. Clones are a cancer on the vape industry. I do understand why people buy them and I don't think less of most people who buy them though.

No one cares today about the amount of money a company spends developing a new mod. The resources it needs to get decent quality metals and decent machining for a mod. It's this looks and - I mean looks - close enough to authentic that I'll buy it and screw the originators. And I do think less of people buying clones. It's not right ... go ahead - you can all chastise me now.

Not going to chastise you but some folks like me buy clones to use at work and travel.
I have some Underground Souonk clones that take to work.
They take a beating. So do the 502's I use on them.
Use clone Aventador's too. Tough as shit .
I do have 1 authentic of each I described but would be stupid to use them at work.

I use authentic mech mods at my job pretty regularly. I'm a commercial fisherman so they definitely take a beating, but with daily cleaning and maintenance I don't have any issues. If I was really worried about destroying my Hammer of God on the boat I wouldn't buy a clone, I would just buy a cheaper mod. There are plenty of mods less than $100, hell less than $75 that could take the place of a clone if you are concerned about destroying them. Instead of buying a clone, one could just buy a cheap mod.

I'm not trying to give you shit personally, just sharing my opinion. I don't hate people for buying clones, I hate the shitty companies who produce them. If people can feel ok supporting a company that steals then that is on them. I've certainly done worse things. Most of the justifications people give are pretty weak though. If you buy clones at least call it what it is, buying a product that is stolen intellectual property.

It works well for me. And as it was a gift I appreciate it that much more. Please do not dis me for liking my clone. Maybe one day I will purchase an authentic mech but for now this is just fine. Best reguards to all.

Hey Fudgie how goes it? I could be wrong it happens often. But I believe and have been told by fairly reliable source that my AV clone is made by the same folks that manufacture the authentic. Do you know antthing about this?

I honestly have no idea, but I doubt it. It may be possible that the companies making clones use the same machining company that AV does, but that doesn't mean that AV is the on making the clones. The issue lies in the theft of someone else's hard work. A company puts time into designing and manufacturing a mod, as well as time and money into building their brand recognition. Then some shithead in China decides to copy it without permission of the original creator. If the original creator was getting paid by the company making the clones and they had an agreement, I don't see how that could be a problem though.

I traded my Switch V2 to a friend who was using a Vgod Pro. I felt sorry for him.

Sir, may I ask why the contempt for Vgod mods? I ask not to chastise but to learn. I do not have any experience with ANY high end mods and not likely to as they do not fit anywhere close to my budget. I do have a Vgod that's I've been very happy using.

The Vgod Elite is okay but a Chronicle or Dreamer IMHO are cheaper and better. The Pro does not cut it. I got an elite because it was a mdecent trade and a good beater. Very heavy mod. Vgod regulated box mods are really good.

Maybe I missed, but what specifically does not cut it?

Dreamer and Tauren are affordable great mods (Tauren most affordable, can be found for less than 50$) and both can do 18650-2x700 batteries. Using a dreamer ATM, and Timesvape is a great company. Dropped my copper one and got an ugly ding on the button housing, contacted Timesvape and had an email back from them the same day. Thought it was a long shot asking for replacement parts but they came through, thought that was really cool of them.

I would like to throw the Atom Vapes 24Cal Sandman in the mix for inexpensive mods that perform particularly well. It has a solid hand feel, good finish, smooth button action, performs well above average for the price range and is a gem IMO.

Late reply sorry. The copper parts on the Vgod - especially if you use the copper atty - tend to oxidize very quickly. I'm constantly cleaning off the green residue. Also it hits okay but my Broadside hits better with an identical atty. Yes, I'm fussy. As I said it's okay.

Get an Able mod while you still can since Avid Lyfe is retiring them. I own 2. No regrets .....at all. Hands down one of the most thought out designs ever.

The new Limitless looks really good.. I believe it is 100$ .. Get a 20700 or 21700 mod.

I can help you obtain a used mod if you want something used as I have many.. lol

You should sand it down, and refinish it. Or wash your hands more (seriously not being rude) oxidation happens from the oils in your skin. If you get like AV Lyfe wipes of some type of polishing dry cloth or even a good micro fiber this will happen less..

This isn’t true... AV is under new ownership but we will see what really happens with the legal battle going on between them.. They just released the chubby Able .. AV has been made in China since late 2016 anyways..

seriously - it is oxidizing inside not outside (outside is no issue) - i work with metals - the moisture causes the inside oxidation and there is no way around it. I have tons of good wipes.

I know this post is 3 months old but I like the suggestion about the Broadside for a first mech because of the safety end of things. I think it would be safe to say that the OP already has a mod by now but another idea is the Shorty X from SOI. Same price range and all the safety of a Broadside except it's a hybrid. I have a stainless one and I love it.
