yeah and it made me feel all clammy

My mom was rather skeptical about the supposed healthiness of vaping, but she recognized right away that it was in fact far different from smoke, no matter its appearance -- I always went outdoors to smoke after she quit, since I went outdoors even at my own house, but she never had a single problem with my vapor in her house, even in the close confines of her closet when I was helping her rearrange her clothes to be more wheelchair-friendly, nor even in her hospital room. My stepfather was a little harder to teach, but I heard her correct him several times, with "It's NOT smoke, Phil, it's VAPOR, and won't hurt anything!" (the subtext of "so get over it already!" quite apparent! :giggle:)

But here's the thing: no matter the heathiness of vapor vs. smoke, it's YOUR daughter, and YOUR right to choose, and none of his affair whatsoever.

Speaking of etiquette, I have a story about a smoker that's still bothering me. Last weekend I had to go to a Christmas party for my gf's family. We were playing the white elephant game, all crowded around a table, elbow to elbow. I had my 2 year old daughter on my shoulders when the guy next to me lights up a cigarette. At that point my daughter and her mom went into a different room.

When my gf's dad noticed she was gone, he asked her why. She told him because people are smoking in there. Then he proceeds to talk shit about us vaping and how its no different. We've tried educating her parents about vaping, but they seem to not want to learn.

When I got home that night, I immediately put my clothes in the wash and jumped in the shower. I couldn't take the smell.

Rant over. thanks for listening.

Yep. I run into this a lot. My wife's family are all heavy chains smokers. When ever we're there for the holidays, like next week, I have to have my kids leave the room all the time. I can;t really take the smell either tbh. And, some of them give me shit about my clouds too. Some people just are set in there ways and refuse to learn anything new and many believe every bit of propaganda they read. :(

So, recently my landlord came by to let me know there had been complaints, about our up stairs neighbours, they smoke and other can smell it. She asked if we could smell. I had mentioned that yes sometimes we do. I mentioned that I vape, wasn't sure if she knew, and her reply "Oh, I don't care about those electric cigarettes, they smell like fruit. It's the other stuff that bugs people" lol.

I should have added that I was not vaping in the house. I went outside and froze my ass off.

If they were smoking in the house, I would most definitely have been vaping in the house!

I should’ve to prove a point but I’m already uncomfortable around 30 people that I have nothing in common with. So vaping would’ve sent my anxiety through the roof.

I decided to do some MTL at my mom's house, and she flipped out "I can feel the oil in my eyes from the other room!". yet I often vape at 50-60 watts in the bathroom, and no comments have been made because I didn't mention that part. She also thinks eliquid burns her skin. She likes smoking *shrug*

So I quit MTL vaping while in her home, but not clouds bro clouds
..she didn't ask me to stop doing That, so that's okay...right? Right? :teehee:

I would tell her that A) she's a drama queen, and B) there's no oil, it's all water soluble. I can't figure out why she's fine with huge annoying clouds and not little MtL wisps. I vaped inside my mom's closet with her in there with me, for 5 hrs straight, and she had COPD, and never said a word, never coughed, no problem -- if she'd had a problem, I wouldn't have done it, but she told me to go right ahead. My mom could be a drama queen about some things, but she was also one to accuse me of "dramatics," so it wasn't really her customary thing. :D

Heh. Doncha know? I'm vaping m*th-cr*ck-lighter-fluid-antifreeze-poison-m*th-m*th-did-you-know-they-put-M*TH-in-there?

Lemon and vanilla flavored, too, I'm a heathen of the highest order. Yes of course I'll hand you your Marlboros - here, I'll even light it for you. Yes, yes, how inconsiderate of me, I'll try not to let any of this vapor get near you.

My gauntlet begins on Saturday. We'll see how it goes this year.

The next time a smoker tells you that vapor is gonna kill ya dead, you might point out that cigarettes will surely do it to him and faster. :D Or just make a shocked face and say "I heard those things will KILL YA!" :giggle:

Lol my family is cool about it. My gfs mom still smokes in the car with kids. Obviously is the worst thing you could do but it’s also illegal now.

In england maybe... certainly not here. I wouldn't have been able to drive at all, without a cigarette -- being under that much stress, and no smoking? Recipe for DISASTER.

That's the funny thing, I've done that, she's walked by the bathroom when there were visible clouds, not a word. She can't smell, she smokes! It's just in her mind.

One of those "don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up" type situations.

I had time to read your blog, I like it. It seems like common sense to us, but then you have some vapers who are rude to begin with OR adamant that it's harmless so blowing in faces is fine (even if it Is harmless, which is up in the air, obstructing someone's view and forcing them to smell a smell they may dislike or even be sensitive to is rude, almost as rude as spraying that terrible body spray while right next to someone). Or the opposite, people who are convinced it's worse than smoking, worse than radioactive isotopes even, so walking a line is necessary...for now :/

I was a polite smoker and I can't think of (or read) one good reason why I shouldn't be a polite vaper.. I never resented non-smokers that didn't want to be around smoking or didn't allow it in their homes, I don't resent non vapers either. The non vapers I have little patience with are the ones who refuse to educate themselves before expressing an opinion about vaping.

Seems that everyone has totally forgotten about stealth vaping, in this era of 200w and all-VG. If no one sees and no one knows, there's nothing to get upset about. I vape in lots of public bathrooms, even in hospitals. No one knows, no one sees, no one gets their "knickers in a twist."

I am getting to the point where the anti vape crowd and smokers get blasted by a Cloud because it is annoying as shit for some dumbass smoking a fucking killer stick to act like my vapor will harm them. You know what Mofo your second hand smoke is carcinogenic not my vapor and do you see that sign right there? Yeah it says this in a SMOKE FREE Campus and says nothing about vaping so lets just ask that security person over there who is breaking the rules? They leave the area.

Welcome to the VU. Although I'm aware that Royal College of Physicians concluded in their report that there's no tangible indication to support that second hand vapor could be harmful to the extent of it being a real concern, I'm equally aware that some people experience symptoms of irritation like headaches, nausea, and sore eyes after they inhale or come in contact with second hand vapor. Vaping in indoor public places is treated like smoking and has already been legally banned in my country (Belgium). Also in my country, recently the anti-tobacco individuals advocated to legally ban smoking (and so that also includes vaping) in side walk cafés. The thing that bothers me most about this whole debate is that there is overwhelming evidence that vaping saves lives, yet our government has been shabbily treating it, or very shabbily if you compare vaping in Belgium to what's happening in the UK, as well as does nothing to limit the use of things like chemical perfumes, some (a lot) of which are causing symptoms of irritation to me. If we're going to discuss 'etiquette' when it comes to what kind of air people should breathe, then I believe the best way to do that would be by pointing out the fact that respect only works among people if people will respect each other instead of letting those requiring 'etiquette' always point their fingers at one specific group of people beforehand. Some actual tolerance towards vaping is what I'd label 'considerate', but like I said I'm not from the UK so all I can do is dream.

As you so articulately point out, the problem isn't vaping at all, the problem is with those "people" (debatable) who've made up their minds beforehand and therefore NOTHING will penetrate their thick skulls.

The day we adopted our new kitty, I was standing outside the animal shelter while my husband handled the paperwork, having a vape. A family including some young-ish children came out, and the kids started running... to avoid my wispy little "clouds" no doubt... but as the little girl gets beyond me, I hear "wow, that smelled GOOD!" See, CHILDREN can learn new things. Far, far too few adults can be taught anything. Which makes them a great deal stupider than 8 yr old children.

Hmm... Trying to figure out the relevance of that cartoon, and failing. Maybe I haven't been awake long enough.

Andria
Being a vaper is like being "a piece of spaghetti with eyes" (from the cartoon titled "Fowl Weather"), and the only way to keep "the chickens" from eating vapers alive right now is to hide them because etiquette isn't going to save them. That's just because if you've watched the cartoon, then you'll know the rooster has a grenade. :p

Ok, thx -- I haven't seen that cartoon, so the explanation is helpful! And I agree. The only thing that will "save" vapers is being proactive -- stockpiling all the ingredients necessary to DIY ejuice, particularly nicotine, and stockpiling mods and attys. Because so far, nothing I've seen from "activism" has done a damn bit of good with the political critters, because the vested interests (including those bought politicos) are making sure of it... and I think BP is a LOT worse than BT as our opponent, if only because a) they HAVE more money (to buy politicos, .org groups, and news talking heads), and b) they stand to LOSE the most money from vaping -- can't be having people not getting lung cancer at current high rates, or COPD! BT is making an effort to join the vaping revolution, and while their products may not be what experienced vapers want, at least they're trying, and some of the BT-vape products might be suitable for getting one's foot in the vape door.

On the other hand... those issuing those immense clouds that look like whipped cream are doing vaping a HUGE disservice; my doc thought all vaping was like that, and though he approves of "anything but cigarettes!", he was worried about how that thick vapor was affecting my asthma. I showed him how my own high-PG, low-wattage vaping produces NOTHING like that, and explained about vaping being so completely customizable, even those with tetchy lungs like mine can tailor their vape to make it possible.

I have to strongly disagree with your conclusion that immense clouds are doing vaping a disservice. That's equally as retarded as clamining elephants are so big they can't be good. There used be a time when cars were powered by steam and nobody was crying about the size of the clouds those cars produced back then, whereas nowadays the clouds from diesel car exhausts are much, much smaller, yet hardly anyone seems to care about the lethality of all the nitrous oxide and fine dust coming from those. In fact if it hadn't been for big clouds and high VG juices at high wattage in an RDA, then I would still be smoking regular cigarettes because this is the one and ONLY way I like to vape. It is also the one and only palpable explanation why I stopped smoking the exact same moment I picked up vaping as opposed to trying, and more than likely even failing miserably, to stop smoking over the course of many months of tantalizingly suffering. I can guarantee that this is very much despite that, unlike me, you are someone who happens to have asthma.

You and I know those thick clouds aren't dangerous -- at least to most people, though trying to inhale something like that would definitely give ME problems -- but other people, non-vapers, don't know that. As I said, my doc thought all vaping was like that, and I had to show him my own wispy clouds to prove him wrong. What non-vapers SEE is what they base their judgments on, despite how ill-informed that makes them. And even vapers and supportive family members don't necessarily want their homes/premises clouded up -- my own high-PG/low-wattage vaping won't cloud up even the interior of a truck cab, but if it did, my husband would banish it to the great outdoors. Our son vapes high-VG because he also likes the "thicker" feel of the vapor as he inhales, but at 20-ish watts, it doesn't cloud up the place at all, so he doesn't get bitched out by either me or his dad.

Y'know that fake-cough/arm-waving thing that haters do? Those thick clouds are far more likely to provoke that response than anything I might emit -- though my husband, as supportive as he is of my vaping instead of smoking, does the same thing if I vape in his room and it goes in front of the TV screen. He knows damn well it's not dangerous... but he still doesn't want his view of the TV occluded. The more that haters can SEE of the vapor, the more they're going to object to it.

Yup! I vape in my house, my office (in front of my employees), and in my cars all the time. When other people are around, I use unflavored 65% VG on a single coil at ~0.75 ohms. Nobody minds because there's no smell, and even more importantly, there are no giant lingering clouds.

But if someone came into any of those places with a typical cloud-chucking rig, I'd instantly tell 'em to take that shit outside.

Finally we can agree it isn't massive clouds, but ill-informed, highly presumptuous, bitching, fakers that are the true bane of our vaping lives. I don't want to cloud up every possible indoor space, and I never actually even did that BEFORE vaping got legally banned in public indoor spaces where I live, which everyone who knows me well can testify so why, other than pure hypocrisy/demagogy and greedy politicians, do you think those fakers who keep trying to desecrate people like me are so often getting eulogized/defended under the fake guise of so-called "vaping etiquette"?

Yeah... I vape in my house, my parents' (well, stepdad's), and my aunt's house. Neither of them mind it; I even once vaped for hours inside my mom's walk-in closet with her in there with me (rearranging clothes for easier access for a wheelchair), and she had COPD, and she didn't mind a bit. If she'd had a problem, I'd have taken it outside, or at least outside the closet! And once when my stepfather had a bad upset stomach and he told me the smell made him feel sick, I kept it outside; it sometimes has that effect on me too, if my tummy's uneasy.

Yet both my stepfather and my aunt have asked me why my son's vapor is so much thicker than mine, what's wrong with it to make it do that -- definitely NOT a sign of being completely at ease about that much thick vapor, and his isn't even terribly extreme. The uninitiated think there's something wrong with anything throwing off that much of something that looks a lot like smoke! And it sure doesn't look anything like cigarette smoke, which carries a big stink for so little visible "cloud," and isn't this supposed to be about quitting smoking? If so, why do you need so much vapor? I've heard all those questions about high-VG vapor, from non-vapers. They don't get it at all, something that looks so machine-y and causes that much visible cloud, well it can't be good for you -- I'm really tired of hearing shit like that all the time, and having to prove that not all vaping is so off-the-charts.

And vaping a "cloud-chucker" while driving... well if you don't have at least 2 windows down for a cross-draft, you're just looking for a Darwin award.

Well... like you, I really hate 99.99% of perfumes. But telling people, 'that shit you're wearing is horrible, and you're wearing WAYYYYYYYYY too much of it,' is just rude. And yeah, those bitching whining infantile fakers are rude to us. But it doesn't improve things to be rude back to them -- it won't change them, whether they're wearing Eau de Satan's Asshole, or doing the famous cloud-wave dance. I think they're stupid assholes too, which is why I commonly practice civil disobedience and stealth-vape in the bathroom. I couldn't do that with smoking, it simply stank too badly, so I'd call it a net win. :)

Andria
While driving if you're doing big clouds the best safest way is to have the window next to you at a chink so that it creates suction and so that you can exhale into that suction instead of creating an unpredictable cross-draft, that, from time to time, might unexpectedly give you an adverse effect. So nope.

There exists reliable scientific evidence to support the claim that a lot of those chemical perfumes and air fresheners contain volatile organic compounds that are indeed harmful to the human body even if used in small amounts so nope. Not rude.

I just try to get away and/or stay away from perfume abusers as much as humanly possible. If i had to spend time in an enclosed space with one, I'd have to fake an asthma attack or something. Or maybe it wouldn't even be fake!

Sorry, but again I have to disagree. Here is an example of a scientific study that outlines some of the reasons why.

Disagree with what? That I don't want to be around people coated in stink perfume? Or that I won't make a scene unless I really feel it's necessary? It's much easier to just leave, or never go wherever, than cause an ugly scene. I don't find the behavior/habits of other people to be within my purview; I wish the vaper haters felt that way.

Just because you don't really feel it's necessary, doesn't necessarily also mean it isn't necessary:

Etiquette or no etiquette. Your own personal health should be more important to other people than those other people's desire to stink.

It might be really necessary for others, such as those with allergies, or those with COPD. If it ever truly bothered my asthma, and it wasn't inside my home or vehicle, I'd simpkly leave -- though possibly while also mentioning that it was their perfume which made my exit necessary.

I have in the past compelled a guy arriving to take me on a date to take a shower if he intended to go on a date with me. :D Apparently he did intend that, because he took the shower without complaint. :) If people bathe routinely, dousing themselves with perfume is NOT necessary. And actually I'd rather smell sweat, if it's fairly fresh; stale sweat is a sign that bathing needs to happen ASAP if not sooner!

If you'd read the two articles I linked in my previous reply, you'd know the health problems associated with fragranced consumer products that occur in asthmatic people are not at all limited to an increased risk of having an asthma attack, but rather, these problems also include potentially life-threatening ones that also include the cardiovascular type of problems. So then how exactly does one "simply leave" when the reality is that 1/ you can't always know for sure it won't be already too late by the time you feel symptoms severe enough for you to justify your leaving, and 2/ potential mid-term and long-term harmful effects could be a lot worse than people might assume. So if you're going to conclude that massive clouds are bad for everyone including non-vapers, then that certainly buys me the right to conclude the same about fragranced consumer products, regardless of whether they ever truly bother your asthma or not, especially in view of the fact my conclusion is well-founded in credible scientific research, while the same cannot be said about a lot of people's conclusions that are criticizing the size of my clouds.

Oh, with asthma, it's obvious pretty quickly if there is a problem... though it's not always immediately apparent just what is causing it. My husband can't run his shop-vac inside the house AT ALL, because everytime he does, I have a major asthma attack. Not sure why, unless the thing is just spewing the dirt it sucks up right back out into the air. The first time it happened, I had no idea it was the shop-vac causing it -- I had dropped and broken a pyrex measuring cup with remnants of cheese inside it, so the shop-vac seemed the correct tool to get all the glass slivers. I had a MAJOR asthma attack that night, which lasted most of the night; if I'd had insurance, I'd have gone to the ER for sure, because it was bad. I thought it was from the stress of breaking glass all over the kitchen floor, but over xmas, trying to get rid of some dust before putting up the decorations, he didn't have patience to do it with my regular vacuum, no he had to go pull out that damn shop-vac... and within 10 mins, I was having trouble breathing, and I recalled the earlier incident. Fortunately my son, who has bronchitis on occasion, backed me up, he was having trouble too, so I wasn't the only "bad guy" -- apparently it's just fine to curse at your wife for having an asthma attack and making you put up you man tool, but if your son also has an issue, well that just can't happen. Fucking idiot.

The main culprits I've ever found are pretty much any type of aerosol such as deodorant or Lysol; I can handle Febreze pretty well, because it's a pump rather than aerosol sprayer. I had to switch to stick deodorant right after my asthma was diagnosed. Hair spray also gives me trouble, so if I need to use it, I hold my breath and then run out of the bathroom REAL fast. :D Most perfumes don't really bother my lungs, they just make the inside of my nose and sinus feel like I've sprayed gasoline up my nostrils and then set it on fire. Except for musk, and REAL rose or lavender. For whatever reason, those don't bother me at all.
