I have a small trailer I pull with the mower that is about 2.5 x 3.5 feet and tilts from the tow bar, so it works like a small dump truck and can be bought for around $90.

Here's a little lawn mower test picture for you. About half my property is covered in trees (the circles in picture below). The bottom half of this picture depicts a lawn mower that does NOT turn sharply, so in order to get the grass close to the trees, you have to mow in a criss-cross pattern. Before you even think about using a weed whacker, we are talking way too many acres to walk around doing that (and, especially with my screwed shoulder, I cannot hold the damn thing up for very long). The top portion of this picture shows the pattern of a mower that can turn very sharply. The CubCadet XT1 turns almost as sharply as a ZTR, so I can nearly rotate around each tree, or curve in and out rapidly, then just straight cut the other side. Note that the cut around trees has to be in opposite directions for alternate sides because the rubber deflector (on all mowers) will not allow a close cut on the right side of the deck. The left side of the deck can cut within 1" of the tree base.

Good to know, but I had all the trees near the house bulldozed into a burn pile.....:teehee:

Good night, Phil. Sleep tight.

So does the grass go right up against the sides of the house? Turn radius also works around the corners of a building.

The more I think about it, the more I wish I'd of picked Hawaii instead....oh well, to late now. If I don't like it, you may see me there too.

Hawaii was a compromise - I wanted to go to Ecuador - maybe Cost Rica - but Mr Juicy was reluctant to leave the US

Of course, things have changed a lot in the three+ years since we made the decision to make a radical move, but I'm happy with the Hawaii decision

Well, shoulders hurt as much as backs sometimes. I have had my left rotator cuff screwed for a couple years now, but do not want to let the knife-happy surgeons have their way with me, so I do exercises and every time I think I have it licked, I screw it up again. So, Phil, we have another thing in common.

Mornin' OPs. Hope everyone is resting well. I went to bed at 1:30, and at 2:10 my work called with a problem in our day-end processing. Had to get up and sign on and fix a problem. Fell asleep in my chair. Work called back at 5:30 with another problem. Signed back on and fixed problem. Fell asleep in my chair until about 9:15. I feel like I've been hit by a train this morning. Headache in my forehead that I fear may become a real challenge later.

Rich, I've heard that rotator cuff surgery is some of the hardest surgery there is to recover from, and has one of the longest recovery times, to the tune of 12-18 months or more.

My husband has a messed up rotator cuff, and orthopedist has been after him about it for years. So far he has managed to head that off, and now his work is not as heavy and physical as it once was, so maybe he'll be able to escape it. Really don't know, but he seems to complain and wince less now, so I hope so.

The straining and lifting you do can't be helping. With a back problem you can always wear a brace to help stabilize and support, but a shoulder is almost impossible in that regard. Please be careful.

If you had that surgery you either wouldn't recover properly, or you wouldn't be able to do the work you do around the farm. Neither of those is an option for you, eh?

I know I'm preaching to the choir. Just concerned any time I hear "rotator cuff." Seriously.

Damn right - will finally be heading out to look at some land in early June - got everything booked and sown up today finally

OMG, that's so exciting! I love land better than just about anything. If I was a rich person, I'd buy tons of land with lots of critters and plants but no people in it! :D

Right on, Juice...I'm heading south next week for a few days, hopefully I'll be able to spread the winter there next year.

I'm interested in your adventure to Ecuador. Without sharing too much specific info, can you tell us what region of the country you'll be in? I'd love to read up on it.

A long-time friend of mine just sold some nice land in Costa Rica. She bought more, with a house to renovate, and goes down there probably 6 or 8 times a year - more often recently, since she's been working with contractors on her house. She speaks mostly about heat, walking along the coast in the early morning, and the monkeys in the trees outside her window. Sounds nice, but also physically challenging.

I don't want to go any place that's any hotter or more humid than where I live now. We lived in Savannah for a few years, and that was too hot and humid for me.

We may have reached 104° yesterday, but with low humidity. It was still awful. We usually get that type of heat in late July and throughout August, with 10 to 15% humidity.
But, I'd rather have that than live where you have to own a snowblower, and spend over half my income on heating all winter.

Spending half your income on heating or cooling?

I went straight from heat to cool this year.

We've been from heat, to nothing, to heat, to cool, to nothing, to heat...you get the picture...this spring. Beats all I've ever seen, except for this continuing, monumental RAIN. It's like a hurricane spread out over a month's time, wind damage included.

Looks like we will get a break from the rain today and maybe till the front edge of the storm hits us in a couple of days.
Might get my mowing done today...

Right. If we had kids living here (or nearby) to tackle the daily issues, maybe surgery would be an option, but as long as I have to do all the heavy lifting, there will never be surgery until I am lying flat out and useless anyway.

I'm doing the dog yard again today (was mowed only five days ago) before the forecast afternoon thunderstorms get here (the advisory says up to 2" of rain in one hour).

Got it for $1400, won't need the extra 4ins.......

He through in a tarp supposedly made to fit, and a trailer hitch, but he didn't know if the hitch will actually fit the mower.......:D

Good price. The back of the mower has a small shelf with a <1" hole in it that will accept a pin-type trailer attachment, but there is not enough space there for the kind of ball trailer hitch that is used on cars/trucks.
