yuck, I hate kbee wire lol but I feel like good wire is for the builder, I'd never know kbee from any other once its built lol but yeah man, people will pay for good hand made coils. I kinda felt you were selling yourself short. Hell, I usually sell mine for $10 a pair (well, depending on the type - more for harder builds) and yours are superior to mine. Looking forward to vaping that alien stagg though, whenever that day comes :)

I'll heat up one of these to check resistance, then make a nice one (hopefully) with my new ribbon this weekend :) I think I can, I think I can

Saving money NO WAY
I think I’ve ended up spending more money on vaping than what I used to spend on cigarettes. But I’m happy that I am out of habit of sick sticks.

i started this message sure vaping wasnt saving me any money lol but when I broke it down, inspite of the fact I spend gobs of money on building supplies, DIY supplies, attys, etc. I'm still a head lol smoked about 1.5-2 packs a day at an avg. $5 a pack. on the high end, that's $10/day or ~300/month call it $3500 a year. I dont spend 300 a month on diy/wire as it is lol but if I do end up with 200-300 supply bill, I'll be good for at least 2 months, probably longer.. hell I still have flavoring from the very first wizard labs order i placed hahaha so I guess overall I am saving money.. that's crazy.. I guess it's because at least for me, the sums are larger each time (but with periods of time between them) so they stand out whereas I didnt think much about the 5-10 a day, every day.

Not quite, I want the swooshes to line up just right, this one is better but has messups and more spacing, AND I'm thinking the outside alien wrap caught itself and moved when I was coiling it...I'm tired of wire for today though

I gotta put it all together, right decores, less spacing, and no F ups

Dang, I made three big framed staples today
Glorious!!!

order placed for clamps by @raymo2u
I feel like I should've done this weeks ago

let's see, that covers wire, clamps, one of the fancy squonk refill bottles ... now I need to find my reorder list for flavorings and I'll be finished "saving money by vaping" haha

Please, when you've used them for a while shed some feedback, honesty is appreciated. Thanks for the support!

Ive slowed down on putting money into vape gear but other hobbies are another subject...
Just imagine how much Ive put into firearms...but how can you put a price on your life?? Thats my excuse for the wife anyways :D

I'll be sure to let you know what I think, but I've heard nothing but good things. Also, that's a nice (part of your) collection! I've sadly had to part with several of mine over the last few years due to this reason or that plus the divorce, but it makes this ol grunts battle worn heart skip a beat when I see fellow Americans that still have a passion for firearms err umm *ahem* I mean with such desire to protect not only their lives, but others as well :)

Your mohawks are killer, man! I'm thinking about trying enigmas this weekend, since I've done a centimeter or two by accident now lol
help me out here meg, what are enigmas exactly?? I watched I believe it was sherlock ohms' video on them, but they looked like another build (having trouble remembering which build now)

Thank you. I've gotten a little ways on Enigmas, but the grip on the decore is...erm...difficult to master. And if you get it right, holding it perfect without twitching/moving is even harder...*sigh*

They're a funky variation of aliens/mohawks where the decore holds closer than mohawks but still has a ridge that gradually wavers back and forth across the cores, wish I had taken a picture now lol
Screenshot_20180523-195859_crop_539x432.jpg

Actually what mine was doing is different, maybe just a variation because I was using a gauge lower decore than the typical alien math, maybe it will work, maybe it won't

I'm scared to try another Wotofo RDA after hearing the rape whistle my Lush Plus makes
the lush plus...what a huge disappointment :/

the recurve isnt better than the wasp imo, but it's also not a tiny little 22mm rda either.. to be 24mm and the room it has, I thought the flavor wasnt far behind the nano or even the gr1 really.. like a fool, I traded mine and have regretted it since.. what did I trade it for?? I'm honestly ashamed to say lol

Perfect mohawks man, really fun to see you nail this build. You gave me the greatest advice when it comes to mohawks. I don't make them often but the way you described your process made it feel so much easier. Your's are clean, clean, clean though. They look absolutely delicious.

Holy moly, looks like you have pitchforks planned in your near future lol
Yeah i was thinking of doing my first today but i didn't have enough time and i want lower gauge wires for fusing pitchforks with. 40g is too thick for pitchforks in my opinion need to have 42 or 44 :D And i need better magnifying googles for that :)

No i don't i just keep the frames with paperclips on the other end because it's helps with fusing, so the wire can move a bit if needed to make the space for fusing wire

Hmmm I need to try this because I’ve always glued both ends, but last proper build session I had I had a nightmare with ribbon twisting half way through

Do you still fold the ribbon around a swivel and wrap a bit of thin gauge wire round to hold it in place? or it litterally just have it hanging free?

I've found this helpful king, but ymmv I glue the end, but before it dries, stick a paperclip in the glob. then once its held in place I glue it on proper. no folding, I've found that deforms my ribbon or causes other issues.. then again, I'm an idiot so.. lol

I want to try to make a video of how I prep ribbon, gosh. I have time this weekend...just camerashy, maybe I can do it anyway, I think my way is pretty simple and good, so maybe worth sharing...
I'd be curious to see myself.. I'm always interested in the many different ways people go about arriving at the same finished product

Thanks matey nice! Not seen it done that way before..does the paper clip ever snap off when you tension it?

I remember back when ...in this thread it used to be standard to fold ribbon round a swivel to double up, bind at the loop....stack and bind up the other end ....repeat with frame....bind ....get everything stacked then glue both ends?

That’s kinda how I’ve always done it? LoL is this not the way everyone is doing it these days

Folding it around the swivel before binding it sounds like an extra, harder step to me, I just use my fingers

So do you not glue it either Meg? ...I gotta get me some paper clips double quick like

Oh yeah I glue, both ends after I wire bind it with ribbon, pull the not-folded end while the glue is warm to make it stay straight

I mostly just want to try making a video to see if I can handle it, and I think my ribbon handling is consistent enough to try recording

Not just folding and binding but chucking it too

By chucking I mean getting it in the chuck straight, not throwing it in the trash or across the room

I think if the ribbon starts to twist on you half way through (it has happened to me too BTW), then if the ribbon stack is glued at the swivel end, you have no way of correcting that twist exactly because it's glued so it's permanent. So here's an idea. Instead of folding the ribbon around the swivel, IMO just prepare the ribbon stack by using the method shown in the part between 5:41 and 7:16 in the video below. After 7:16 is where he starts attaching the ribbon stack to his swivel, but instead of attaching it to your swivel, IMO a better idea would be to attach that end to the hair grip─and insert the hair grip into the drill next. So instead of folding the not-folded end around the hair grip like he does, fold this same end around a small key ring that's hooked onto the swivel, and, secure this end by wrapping it around the key ring in such a way that it can't unwrap itself easily. By doing this, you should be able to carefully unfold, or partially, the fold at the key ring the moment when you notice the twist starting to occur. Partially = just enough to relieve the unequal tension that's causing this twist. So this method should enable you to re-equal the tension and re-secure that end.

You know just reading your post makes me realize how much of an art this really is. 99 percent of these coils are more than anyone could fathom. Then you have the little tricks and clamps and f'n Legos man. Even if I'm not trying the fancier coils I still study them and try to figure out where it started. I love it man. Just mind blowing that all the coils start with a single strand.

i tend to glue both ends of my stacks if they are just going in for one pass of wrap (like a framed staple/alien framed staple etc). if i am going to do a second pass of wraps of any kind (ssfc, staggs etc) then ill only glue the drill side together, and leave the rest floating (either the center core is on the swivels and the rest is not, or the new frames are attached and the stuff i did on the first pass is not, depending on the build). i hold that stuff on with paper clip/drawstring clamps, and it zips up tight like a zipper as you do that second pass of fuse.

i have run into the situation where both ends are glued and as you wrap it up a bulge appears or something warps from not having room to move. i just hit the glue with a lighter until it softens up and lets everything get comfortable again. its not ideal having to stop and deal with that, but its never wrecked a build so far (only happened twice i think).

edit - another thing i find helps with things as you get in to more complex builds, is to attach your core stack to the swivels with something thats more flexible than the core stack. that more flexible connection will take the brunt of the tension that would normally twist your shit up. in the case of floating your stack by its frames, the frames are doing that and protecting your main stack, but on a build like an alien staple (no frames) your cores are the most vulnerable, so attaching them to the swivel with a higher gauge wire loop, or even a paper clip or something with similar springy-ness can sort out a lot of tension related issues...

Does twisting happen because of sudden stops and starts? I might be in a small group, since I use a corded drill that keeps going a bit after I let go of the trigger, rather than stopping instantly like a cordless does
