If you don't mind me asking what is it you use to take the photos and for lighting? I only use a mobile phone with a magnifying lens held over the top and for lighting I bought a really cheap photo booth. Only cost 7 quid I think so maybe 10 dollars or thereabouts. Definitely helped with my photos like, get better lighting coverage and it's collapsible so doesn't have to take space up. I leave it in place though just for convenience

To be honest I just been snapping pics in the open. I just grabbed a box today that I’m going to line with white paper and use that for photos for now

That's not a clip on one that mate, I have to hold it in place between 2 fingers to use it but I've had better results with that than I ever got with a clip on macro lens. I feel like I can get closer to the coil and still be in focus with that 25x loupe

I found it works wonders for your lighting as it can be folded in such a way that the lights are never directed at the coil. The headset the magnifying lens came off looks like this, I intended to use it for coil building but it was absolutely useless lol. Had to be too close to the wire for it to be used properly, but as a macro lens for a phone it's well better. Pretty sure you should be able to find one as a single unit and not pay for the entire thing. I'll have a poke around now and see if I can find a standalone one

I haven't been able to find a standalone one yet but I did find the same headset for about a 3rd of the price I paid haha should have looked further when I did my search (-_-)

Yea I've got the same set of useless glasses. Have to be about 2 inches away for any focus. Terrible investment.

my goggles came with 4 different lenses, and have two clips to put them in. i use it mostly for the headlight, but the 1.7x lens is also pretty good for working with. it allows me to have my face around a foot away from what im working on, and lets me see what im doing when i go higher than 40..i put the strongest lens in the front holder so i can get it out of my way, but if i fold it down in front of the 1.7x lens i can stop to inspect things quite well, then flip it back up and get back to work.
goooogles.JPG

i was using the folding magnifying glass for my pics (pressed against my phone) for ages, then i recently got this $15 dollar macro kit. the macro is 10x and its ok. the area it can work within is barely big enough to fit an atomizer/coils into, and it can only focus on one coil, or part of a coil, at a time. i end up taking 4 or 5 pics from the same angle with different parts in focus and them stack them/fix it all in photoshop.
macrofying.JPG

for lighting, i just picked up some of these highly mobile desk lamps and for now i have taped parchment paper over them to diffuse the light a bit. they are nice because i can move them where ever i want, and really make sure the shot looks nice before i take the pics, but its kind of a hassle having to find that every time. these lamps were about $10cdn a piece. the bulbs actually cost more by the time it was all done i think...

It might not pick up the best photos. I'd have a look at between 20-30x, saw one before at 40x in the same design

I thought my magnifying glass was just 3x and 5x, so 10x seemed like a big jump...was afraid something like 25x would focus on too small an area, ah well I'll upgrade again later on if need be :) thanks

I havent used photoshop in years but have the basics of blending layers (and making lightning bolts lmao) so I guess I might just take lots of pictures and combine them? Some day...after I make a coil clean enough to photograph that way lol

stacking them in photoshop is pretty much automatic. theres a script in the menu to load all the pics into a stack (each pic on its own layer) and align the contents, and theres a blend layers option thats been doing a great job of erasing all the out of focus parts and putting the focused parts up front. i havnt had any need to do anything other than crop the results and compress them (not even curves/color grading).

most of the important stuff you have to do relates to the pics you are working with. i have had great luck with just 3-5 pics since my very first try with the macro lens/photoshop. i got all full of myself a few nights ago and tried to take like 20 pics and stack them, but i guess half my pics were junk so photoshop made junk out of them :grumpy: i selected the 4-5 best shots in the stack and blended them into a great pic lol. my camera app has some extra options too. it can save the pics in a raw format, as well as something called exposure bracketing. the raw format has more color info for photoshop to work with, and exposure bracketing takes 4 copies of each picture ranging from overexposed to under, which is even more light info for photoshop to work with. i only tried that format once (the 36/46 alien pic) and i think its a lot richer and nicer looking than the ones i did without exposure bracketing. still deep in experimentation mode with my photo setup.

Cheap UCs don't hold up like a decent quality one and you'll burn out cheap ones quicker than you may think. If you're gonna sell coils, I recommend throwing 80-100 bucks at a decent one that will last and that does 40KHz and has nice options. Plus you can clean tons of other shit with it, including your wifey / what have you's jewelry :)

Just my 2 cents from experience.

Oh that's so damn clean! Do you use a hand drill for the fusing like or do you just get it with the regular drill?
I use regular drill if you get the grove you can go almost full blast and i squeeze it with nylon pliers every 1 inch to make it really go to the groves and it keeps cores parallel :) And thank you! I'm going to try more cores but for sale i think 3 cores are great :)

Upto a certain gauge it can be done easily with a cordless drill, the further up the gauges the harder it becomes to do. I've seen a few people who fuse with a hand drill, ohmboy josh and the like. Never used one myself but am interested in whether it would alleviate collapsing cores at the price of speed

With multiple cores you just can squeeze them every inch or so with nylon pliers it keeps cores in place and make the erap much more cleaner :) and yeah i think with higher cores it's easier with hand drill tho. :)

I have achieved a couple multicore SFC's, I started at kind of a fat gauge for wrap wire though, 32g, with that stuff I could run the drill full speed and have hardly any complications. As I moved up the gauges I realised it was tougher than I initially thought and have taken a step back before I make a proper attempt again. Hopefully I can get them locked down soon enough though :)

You will my dude atleast with 36 yo ustill can do almost fullspeed when you cores are in place trust me when you get it's just as easy as 32 :) but when you go higher than 36 i think thats when you got to go slow

So this was actually a failure turned into a consolation, I used a lower decore than I usually would for this frailer to try to get wavier wraps and the wraps weren't as tight so when I pulled down on one lead the wraps just kinda slipped off. So I ended up with a 3.5 wrap instead of a 4.5. But it will vape.:headbang:IMG_0829.jpg

Just a hand job so to speak. Lol

You really should be framing them... better vape and just easier to deal with man

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Edit: throw on some 28g frames for those 6x .4 , do a dual coil 5 wrap and it’ll be around .14.. amazing vape.

Yeah I tried making coils with 3 cores again this morning. I cannot keep them parallel

Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Use ribbon wire and make a slider and use paper clips if needed then the biggest tip use nylon pliers to to pinch the wrapped ribbon and to the cores it really makes them so they lock parallel
